Here's why. . .
it is terribly designed for the games you'd want to play on it. The buttons feel too small (face & analog), and the touch interactions with the fragile LCD screen are a constant annoyance (you have to touch the Vita to activate it on startup. I'm not kidding. Look at the attached pic. That little hanging corner on the upper right has to be manually swiped with your finger just to start the system).
I would wholeheartedly recommend a PS TV rather than a Vita since you can play with a DS3 or DS4 controller.

yeah it tanked hard. but you can pick up for under $40 (maybe even $20). There's a few games it can't play (Gravity Rush, Uncharted) but it has the lion's share of the Vita's library. Great value purchase.

If you never had a PSP then its worth it. It is a ton of work though, hacks are far less easy this time around.
Right now I can play: any PSP, PS1, snes, GBA, GBC games. Snes is probably still a bit slow though. And its nice to have all that portable with real controls.
However to do it you need to be below a certain system version and have at least 1 PSP game. The guy dishing out the hacks hasn't done anything for the newer versions.

Yes, I tried to do my research with those games. The primary reason for getting the Atelier games is because there was a giant sale on them, and i knew I'd never run into a sale that big again.
I do hope I get something out of the Atelier games, though. Maybe it'll have cute girls in cute hats.

Frame rate is sub 20 consistently on half the tracks, then on all tracks there are tons of dips. The Samba De Amigo track is the worst offender.
