Old games on steam usually don't work or are missing stuff. Example: TIE Fighter on gog you get 3 versions. On steam and you get 2. Steam is missing the Collectors CD-ROM version which is hands down the best version.
Steam versions of old games will usually require you fix all the problems that the GOG version will have fixed out of the box.
