Veronica a shit
Should I buy New Vegas? I've only got a PS3 right now.
Reminder.
>lets take power armor and put a big chunky duster overtop it because it looks cool lol
Absolutely disgusting.
Why do I always feel New Vegas would be great as an 80s anime

Don't bother on PS3, frankly. Almost any PC can run it, and you have the option of a lot of content-restoring mods that don't impact performance that much.
If you must, you'll enjoy Ultimate Edition.
>>339284371
Its not power armor, its riot gear. Power Armor has motorized servos that assist with movements, its why you need special training to use power armor.
>>339284295
Can you get the version with all DLC?
Then yes.
Can you get it for PC?
Then hell yes!

It's a high tech helmet with a bullet vest/ballistic vest under a duster.
Nothing power or armor about it.

Naaaaaaaaah anon. You don't need any training.

I wouldn't recommend the PS3 version, as the failures at Obsidian never fixed the save game bloating bug

Yeah, it's just an Ironman suit really, you even have arc reactors and shit.
This is honestly the biggest thing I have against fo4. We all knew the game was going to be more streamlined for shooter kiddies and skyrim bros, but there was no reason to retcon lore like this.
>>339284856

That would make perfect sense if it couldn't be worn by raiders, robot detectives, journalists or scientists.

What if raiders are wearing it same way NCR heavy troopers wore power armor? removing servos and only wearing the armor? But that would make too much sense and then Bethesda would be acknowledging stuff Obsidian made and that's a big no no.

Theres project dust but that's just an exercise in frustration since mobs have infinite ammo but drop 1-3 bullets.

I think the NCR Ranger armor looks the best, but I hated wearing it because of the faction armor effects. Desert Armor was my favorite simply because I felt like I was mantling the Survivalist.

If you enjoyed hardcore mode, then yes. It makes stimpaks less plentiful, rebalances gun damage (which actually makes energy weapons stupidly powerful), lowers the level cap, and a host of other minor changes. Honestly, you won't notice much of a difference unless you've already poured hours into the game, but if you've done that then you'll probably love JSawyer's mod.

FO3 version was better to be honest
So, is evacuating Zion more consistent with "letting go" than defending it?
>>339286875
I agree with you for a first time playthrough. It was refreshing to have an area where you started with nothing and everything felt dangerous. The characters were really good too, in both design and narrative. It loses some of that danger on subsequent playthroughs though and has pretty small areas. That's why I prefer Old World Blues or Honest Hearts after playing the whole game about ten times since there's more dungeon-style areas to clear than the others.
>>339287258
Definitely. How does defending it play into it at all?
>>339287258
No, the ending where you defend Zion but spare Salt-Upon-Wounds is the most thematically fitting ending, since quelling the inner demons of Graham and getting him to let go of the "Burned Man" persona is much stronger for the narrative theme then just evacuating Zion.
>>339285557
This
>>339285256
>Battlestar Galactica
>not Blade Runner
F4 is still shit, don't get me wrong
>>339287258
Evacuating the area is as literal about "letting go" as you can get.
>>339287056
Well, to be fair, the vending machines were basically Star Trek replicators, with the exception that the source of energy and matter was in form of chips and not hidden somewhere inside the machine.
A pretty smart idea actually.
>>339287072
I think it does, to some extent. That's how they were in the older games. However, it's simply frustrating at the beginning when you pass through Nipton and get gangraped from 100 yards away by ghouls with laser rifles.
>>339285613
fuk me up senpai
>>339287336
I found Honest Hearts very underwhelming. Joshua was great, but he was hardly in the whole story, and the Survivalist was the only highlight of the story.
>>339284996It's letting go.
What stats should I go for with a pistol guy with back-up knife?
>>339287258
No, not at all.
The Sorrows need to let go of their pacifistic past and learn to defend themselves and their right to their territory. The White Legs are no better than the cannibals or Fiends that roam the Mojave, they deserve to be wiped from the Earth.
>>339287393
see>>339287469
Honest Hearts is centrally about Graham, and his rage. The conflict/letting go is less about Zion itself and more about the resolution for Graham, by defending it and sparing SUW, you are developing Graham beyond the raging "Burned Man" and getting him to forgive himself and let go.
>>339287258
I just kill General goobledigook every chance i get.
>>339287601

ror
>>339287556
Yeah I know that and even admitted it was smart. I just always accept it as a game mechanic and then shit, turns out these magical 3D printers are actually a fairly big plot device.
>>339287664
>>339287469
>>339287258
also worth keeping in mind is that the final sentiment of the Survivalist's story is that the Sorrows should be kind and giving, but defend their home with no regrets.
>>339287765
>>339287556
What? Did I miss something in the DLC? Can you explain this to me please
>>339287624
Right, I'd say the same thing. I like Honest Hearts more because I like the wilderness, spooky caves, and colorful design.

Sinclair blows a shitload of money to build a casino with Big MT tech for Vera, shit gets fucked.
Workers got trapped inside hazmat suits and the Cloud turns them into insane Ghosts, holograms are virtually unkillable and vending machines can make literally anything out of chips. Elijah wants to kill everyone in the Mojave with that tech.
>>339286943
This desu.
>>339287923
Everything in the Sierra Madre were components Elijah could use to make an army and construct a whole civilization.
Cloud allows him to preserve pre-war shit (I think it prevents decay) and mass wipe out enemy forces.
Hologram projectors let him deploy hundreds of invincible of troops at a time.
Vending machines guarantee unlimited supplies for whatever civilization is established.
Sierra Madre itself is nearly a fortress that's almost impossible to find never mind fucking infiltrate.
>>339288019
The vending machines but Id take an entire explanation if you could be bothered to type it out. I havent played Dead Money in a few years but I don't recall anything about the vending machines being a major plot point. It's one of those games with a lot to talk about so when a thread pops up, it makes other people start some later. Morrowind is the same way.
i posted yesterday and you guys helped recommend mods for me and i'm grateful but i have another question. I have jsawyer and it requires all of the "packs" of which i assume are only extra weapons at the start of the game. For the best experience, was i intended to get all of these weapons for my hardcore playthrough? It seems kinda cheating but the mod does require them to be installed and checked. Is this correct?
>>339288251
Okay, well I'll explain to the best of my memory.
After Fallout 2, the Brotherhood and the NCR were at war for reasons that I don't recall (There were reasons I'm just not remembering). Whilst the BoS had Power Armor and advanced weaponry, the NCR had vastly superior numbers and attack points (Since the BoS were essentially surrounded.), the BoS ends up getting it's shit pushed in and as a last resort blows up the NCR's gold reserves (Sacking their economy) and flees eastward.
A group of the BoS settles at HELIOS One in the Mojave and forms a new chapter, led by Elijah. Elijah's a cranky old man who's got a special way with tech, but fundamentally disagrees with the way the BoS handles it. Instead of preserving it, Elijah wants to use it. Against the NCR. Eventually, the NCR rolls into the Mojave and raids HELIOS One, the BoS loses and flees. Elijah is exiled for his failures and increasingly extremist views.
Elijah wanders for a while, and learns of Old World technological wonders lost to the Wasteland from places like the Ciphers and the Big Empty, and hears of the Sierra Madre from Ulysses.
Essentially, the Sierra Madre is an absolute treasure trove of unique technology untouched by time. Elijah sees the technology in a different way, a way to strike back against the West, against the NCR and the weak, submissive BoS who exiled him.
The Sierra Madre Cloud is a chemical weapon that could be harnessed and dumped in the NCR/Mojave, purging it of life. The Holograms are perfect soldiers that can't be killed unless you hit the projector, which is difficult. The vending machines are literally material replicators that, when manipulated, can generate any number of required materials. It's essentially a person-sized factory for anything you want. Elijah wants to cleanse the West, make it "how it was meant to be", clean and empty for him to pick over and use the technology.
>>339289062
JSawyer scatters the gear all around the game.
>>339289062
Yeah. But JSawyer distributes all the pack items throughout the Wasteland.
>>339289062
They're interspersed throughout the world. You don't get them at the start, I don't think you're 'required' to get them, or the mod is balanced around them or anything.

>>339289240

>>339289062

>Ciphers
Who?
>>339289357

>>339289443
Mentioned briefly by Elijah. They're content from Van Buren (The original cancelled Fallout 3).
They were Tribals descended from scientists who fled from a local research facility. They're like most other Wasteland tribes except they're all like rainmen with numbers since math is part of their tribal culture. They have numbers instead of names and their village is covered with carvings/cave paintings of complex design documents like the blueprints for a space rocket engine.
Fallout: New Vegas is probably my favorite Fallout game.

There's a big difference between "letting go" and running away from your problems. The themes of letting go in the DLC are about being willingly letting go of the past and emotional baggage by the characters growing up and changing. Willingness is the key, because otherwise nothing is learned. If nothing is learned and the characters run off, history will repeat itself.

wat. The New Vegas dlc are some of the only dlc worth paying for. Together they add a significant amount of content and alone they are high quality, self-contained experiences.
>>339292196
>t-60 power armor exists
Fuck me...
>>339292949
>the Kotaku leak was 100% accurate the whole time
I remember when people dismissed it as complete bullshit because of the voiced, male-only protagonist with his own prewar backstory. How wrong we all were.
>>339293096
>implying it's just Bethesda that's forgotten what an RPG actually is.
Mercenary Armor or Raider Armor?
>>339293270
Fair point. I forgot about Bioware for a second.
>>339291295
Even more fixed edition. This time with cool Fallout 1/2 font.
>>339293249
This was probably one of the most leaked games ever overall. Remember the
>>339292949
>They shoehorned the ability to play as a female much later.
It's so awkward to have an idea "shoehorned" into a game that was standard in every entry spanning back nearly 20 years.
Shit was written by fanboys.
I hope you guys wear normal clothes in towns, not armor

>not wearing Vault 13 armor the entire game
pleb
>>339293351
Actually most companies forgot that rpgs isn't just a game with a level up system
>>339293423
Perfect.
>>339293249
>Casting calls for both the male and female versions of the player character note that the player begins the game in a cryogenic sleep chamber.
Nah, voice acting takes a while. It was there from the start. Even the Kotaku page says a female protag was always planned. Give them some credit.
>>339293591
>not wearing the Vault 21 jumpsuit the entire game
Double pleb.
>>339285613
roll-in
>>339293423
Now we can actually post an accurate version when the shitposting one comes up.
>>339285613
gimme
>>339293445
Yeah but everyone knew F4 would be in Boston. Fallout 3 really signposted it.
>>339293723
I would if it triggered specific dialogue, mainly with other vault dwellers like the Boomers.
Official Fallout Tier List:
1>NV>2>Tactics>4>3>BoS
2 fucked up by being more of the same but of a severely inconsistent quality.
>>339293423
I really like this because it has implications for both the good and bad parts of the faction in each part.

Its concept is great but really didn't translate well to the shitty Gamebryo engine. The idea of it having a water pack is really cool
Also, the hat looks dumb. They should have just worn cowboy hats like the casual rangers

>4 over 3
Swap them around it's perfect. 3 has some redeemable qualities. 4 is too far removed from being an RPG.
>>339294073

Deer is the animal associated with cucks.
>>339294079
4 is a better shooter than 3 is an RPG. Plus 4 has better companions and a few more memorable quests. Much more than 3 has.

>gallant highwayman junkie loner living in the middle of nowhere

I like it. I shall call him Damien.
>>339293927
2 was my favorite for years, but I did a playthrough about 2 years ago. Holy shit, it was memeing and pandering for "le uptokes" before memes and Reddit were a thing. Still a great game, but it really pulls you out of the world when every step is some pop culture reference.
Never got into tactics. I should reinstall it and give it a go.
>4>3
Explain. I think 3 is awful and took all the wrong ideas/lessons from 2, shot them through a fanfiction filter and shat them into onto old Skyrim ideaboards, but It's still leagues above 4.
>BoS
lol
>>339293897
Boston was mentioned in a single sidequest in Fallout 3. That's like saying that Skyrim "really signposts" TES VI being set in Hammerfell because of that one quest where you help some Redguards capture a noblewoman who had been working with the Thalmor.
>>339293249
>How wrong we all were
Why is this so fucking depressing?
I was expecting the worst from Bethesda and yet they've managed to make it even worse.
>>339294028
totally fucking agree with this anon, campaign hats are as bad to the bone as you can get
>>339294386
It was mentioned three times, actually. There's a sidequest that centers around it, Dr. Li travels there, and Ashur mentions it.
>>339294531
I only remember the Replicated Man quest, but then again I never played the DLCs.
>>339285613
Roll dem bones
>>339294386
Bethesda was on scene mapping out Boston for fucking years. It was also mentioned with Dr. Li going there and I think during Point Lookout too. Also IV will be in Hammerfell
>>339294386
Considering FO3 didn't have many significant large quests and a lot of emphasis was placed on the shit going on up in Boston including Dr. Li bailing to go work at the institute after Broken Steel, like everyone and their mother theorized FO4 was gonna take place in Boston and they were right.
Also that's a retarded comparison because we already know lots of shit about Hammerfell, whereas most of America is still a mystery in the fallout universe so dedicating a quest to an unvisited area was pretty blatant set up as foreshadowing bait.
>>339294386
Actually, you're right. Fallout 3 did signpost it because of that quest as well as numerous other references, the same with Hammerfell in TES VI.
>>339291415
>Just as worse
god damn that's bad
>>339292949
So it was shit since its inception?
>tfw fuck the NCR but force yourself to get their ending for the achievement
>>339294386
It was mentioned in:
>Replicated Man
>Railroad agent encounter
>Doctor Li going there after story
>Ashur talks about it in The Pitt
>The missionary from Point Lookout talks about it
That seems fairly signpost-y to me.
So since most people moved on to 4, what are the last few projects/mods still being made for new vegas besides project brazil
>>339294459
>tfw we joked about a simplified Skyrim levelling system on the same level as we did "Radshouts"
>mfw it fucking came true
>>339292949
They were working on this when we were all playing New Vegas and the Dragonborn DLC back in 2013.
Why does that make me feel so weird.

That huge space station one. It's meant to be DLC sized. Can't quite think of the name.

>>339294947
It's hard to believe they made it even simpler than Skyrim. At least Skyrim had you invest in multiple perks to fully flesh out any one weapon type.
>>339295039
>Why does that make me feel so weird.
Because they spent an enormous amount of time working on the game, and in the end all they did was take things away.
>>339295057
I'm more concerned about what Bethesda things "obviously pregnant" looks like. Bitch is still a stick.
