If it's a 3D game with a humanoid protagonist in a realistic looking environment, I've not played it. I need a good starting point.
Dark Souls
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
literally call of dooty

Resident Evil 4
Any Zelda OoT onwards
Grand Theft Auto's are good but kind of products of their times

See, I thought about that, but I'm not sure if I could enjoy that game without some prior experience to 3D combat. I think I could learn it, but it'd not be a fun way to start stuff off, learning controls to a game meant for people who understand that stuff already.

Dark Souls

I did actually play a little bit of Twilight Princess at some point. I did like it, but it was a friend's copy, so I didn't really get to keep playing.

You wouldn't. The controls are trash and would be hell for a beginner to learn.
Play something simple like fallout or an RPG

Are the solo campaigns to those games any good? As I'm not gonna take too well to dying horribly in multiplayer because I've not touched an FPS before.

I was thinking of doing a Bethesda. I know open world is derided on /v/ nowadays, but I haven't touched a game with one before, so I'd get more amazement out of seeing such a huge world in a video game.

Twilight Princess t
Gets shit on by a lot of people but I always liked it. The aesthetic direction was great and the gameplay was incredibly solid.

I'll keep it in mind. So I think what I'm gonna do is either gonna be a non-Souls WRPG, or Zelda.
