The main issue I have with stands is that it feels like anything goes. With hamon, you got some clearly defined rules and characters had to play within them constantly. Characters like Joseph might toe the line but he had to be clever and play within the limitations.
But with stands, fucking anything can happen. Like the one time Star Platinum defeats Justice by SUCKING IN REALLY HARD. It just comes out of nowhere and feels like a total asspull.

The only thing that really stands out about Part 2 is Joseph. The supporting cast is pretty bad, and what good supporting characters there are, like Stroheim, never get their time to shine because BT is all Joseph all the time. Joseph isn't as clever with Hamon as people make him out to be, half the time he just reveals that he had actually just hidden rope under the arena and then he instantly wins, although there are good moments like the grenade trick and the ball hitting Wham. Jolyne is more clever with Stone Free than Joseph ever was with Hamon. Cars is shit and the fight against him is just asspull after asspull, Hamon is also shit and keeps getting new abilities associated with it for no reason.
BT is still good but there are far better parts and I suggest that you read the manga.

Why is copyright even an issue though? No one owns the word Surface, to use that pic as an example. Sure, lots of stuff in JJBA are named after songs/musicians but a lot of the time they're just names with nothing to do with the original work despite the name itself being a reference.
Like, Dio is literally named after Dio and yet there's no problem there. Zeppeli is named after Led Zeppelin and there's no problem there.

It's the last time you really see Joseph with any relevance and is largely symbolic of Joseph trying to patch things up with his son after being absent for 16 years. Shizuka's really just a prop and the effort he puts into making a home for her is really meant to be read as him trying to make amends with Josuke while Josuke's incredibly wary of it. It's probably one of the only times in JoJo until JoJolion where Araki tries to strike an emotional chord and he practically succeeds.

Being in court at all is a bad thing.
For example, lets say that they did keep Surface in. Surface/Whoever owns the rights to them then decides to sue. Even if Crunchy/Viz would win with 99% certainty, it's still bad for them to be in court in the first place. It costs them money to hire a lawyer (a lot of money too since it's related to the music industry), and they also risk losing the licensing rights to JoJo.
It's far easier to just change the name.

Not universally true, some people just don't mind if they use their stuff. Savage Garden aren't Warner Bros, they're Sony, but they gave the go ahead. And then I Want You saw a HUGE sales boost on JP iTunes and theres a best off album with JoJo cover art now which will probably make them a shit tonne of money. The views for the official video of I Want You skyrocketed too.
It's possible that there's actually no good reason to withhold use of your name if those boosted figures are a sign.
