You read me wrong, I try to keep the entire team alive whenever I can, but I move with my pocket and keep him alive and damage boosted as much as possible. It pays off because a Pharah + Mercy combo is incredibly strong. There's nothing wrong with pocketing as long as you aren't completely glued on to your pocket, that's going too far, you still need to try to keep your team alive, but you need to balance damage boosting your pocket so you can really do damage to the enemy team.

To really get the most out of Mercy you need to do more than healing, damage boost is important and you need to damage boost whenever possible on a player who can make plays to make a bigger impact on the game.
