Nigga did you even play the game? 90% of the map is fucking empty. Most of the checkpoints are literally copy pasted. Only 5% of the map is interesting because it is related to the story missions. Aside from story missions those 5% of the map are usually never used. This is true for Africa and Afghanistan.

Enemies don't improve in AI whatsoever. There's little to no reason to prevent the enemy troops from getting the new gear since it doesn't increase or decrease the difficulty because AI is dumb as bricks. Enemies literally cannot see you from few feet away despite you wearing black combat gear. "It's just like in other Metal Gears, DUH!" is not an argument.

Base management is a chore. Most of the upgrades you can research are irrelevant and provide only small differences to the overall performance of the weapon. Half of the missions you can give to your squads are irrelevant because reasons above. The only reason to improve your troops is for online bases that can be raided.

Story is a mess. The gameplay gets stale before you get to Africa where you must do the same. The Chapter 2 is a disgrace aside from few missions. The soundtrack is good though.

They're two vastly different things.

DMC4 is notorious for it's terrible level design, but the gameplay is king among the action genre.

Not him, but I agree. The old control scheme was a lot better than the one we have now. In the old games there was a sense of satisfaction learning the unique controls, thus making it a lot more satisfying to pull off actions. In TPS it's a generic over the shoulder tps control scheme with lock-on. I'm sure it was necessary to make the game open-world (even though the open world ended up being shit) but it made the game feel a lot dull. Also it made MGO less about reflex and mastery over the control scheme and more about who sees the other one first do they can lock on to them and spray them down.

I had a completely different experience with.

Every single gadget/buddy/vehicle I unlocked I also used. I changed my loadout for every mission and planned ahead, going several different routes whenever I had to repeat a mission or have another mission in the same area.

In my opinion, the gameplay is what you make of it. More than any other MGS, you are responsible for your own fun in a way.
If you go in run&gun ignoring all the options and variations the game gives you, yeah I'd be bored as shit aswell.

There's a mode in DMC4SE that does exactly that and yes, it is very fun because the mechanics are exceptional.

Not that guy, but the open world added nothing to the gameplay besides giving you an excuse to drive around to different locations, go after side missions, and find animals/plants. Most useful plants are within twenty feet of the LZ of helicopters and rare shit like haoma is almost never used until the later levels, by which time most people have already completed the game and S-ranked every mission. Also animals are a total crapshoot every time, where you never know what type of animal is walking around because he didn't model 75 percent of the time. The other 25 percent of animals that he DID model you either pick up (which is fine), shoot with tranq rifles (also fine), oh yeah and just shoot with the stun rifle until they're STN.

Gameplay itself is pretty good, but it's kind of hard to fuck up a third person shooter these days. Snake moves very well, aim is snappy, and fultoning things is always pretty satisfying (up to around the sixty hour mark)

The missions and side ops are where the game really falls apart. I wanted to get S ranks on all the missions (which I did), so I decided to never get caught, not use Reflex Mode, never kill anybody, and only use my tranq/stun rifle when I absolutely have to. All the cool weapons/gadgets you get (even the ones that put people to sleep like the SLP Grenade, etc) are all objectively worse for stealth than just sneaking up and popping them in the head/knocking them out. Side Ops are total trash (don't even have to explain those), missions themselves are never interesting (it is ALWAYS "Fulton this",
"Reach this point", or "Blow Up Those", with very few actually good missions), and the story is awful.
