Remember when games had well designed maps?
Yeah but it looks like shit
graphics > level design

The modern audience, right here.
Walk from checkpoint to checkpoint, take cover for a bit to heal, enjoy the Michael Bay inspired visuals with writing that would make The Asylum embarrassed.
>>339250417
I do. Especially since I've been playing through this just now
Nostalgic faggots
>>339250465
Low quality bait right here.
Here's your (you).
>>339250651
Been playing No Rest For The Living with Smooth Doom and the PS1 Doom soundtrack on a 2K 144hz monitor.
It's fucking joyous.
>>339250651
>doom
>well designed maps
That's bullshit right there. The maps were and are the worst quality of the old dooms.
>>339250862
This reddit ass post kek
>>339250417
dark souls 1 had amazing level design, how every part of the map intertwines is just so good
>>339250923
>The maps were and are the worst quality of the old dooms.
Look at this underaged plebeian that understand jack shit about brilliant game-design.
No wonder nu-Doom is such a hit with the casual crowd.

Would put money on you having a couple of reddit tabs open yourself, cuntnugget.
Nah, I'm playing some Hexen right now and the level design is pretty ass. Feels like a notable step down from Heretic.
>>339251028
Prove it, redditor
>>339251149
Burden of proof's on you, holmes. Lie away, no-one cares.

>wooow look at that, an area on the horizon
>wooow this door does not open from this side
>strut strut strut circlestrafe strut circlestrafe strut strut strut
>woooow i've reached an area that was on the horizon
>woooow the area i've passed is now on the horizon
>woooow mathew mestastasis noticed this too wheres my credit card
>>339251147
Most that play Hexen never get out of the first hub, too much in the way of "the fuck did that switch do?"
>>339250923
>>339250417
Level design as a major gameplay element started to really die off around 2005ish. The 'realistic shooter' with regen health kinda killed it off completely.
>>339251929
>tfw there are people that actually use the term level design to refer to how good the environmental graphics look

>>339250417
is this unreal
>>339251457
I care.
>>339252301
yes
quake 2 has much better level design though
>>339252301
Yeah, it's amazing how they put tons of optional stuff along the level making you make sense of the architecture if you want a powerup. I have never played Unreal before so it reminds me a lot of Tomb Raider at times. Very quaint alien world, great atmosphere.
Remember when games had interactive AI?
>>339252671
No it doesn't. Which Q2 mods do I get for a higher res revamp?
>>339252989
yes it does. i don't know about q2 mods because i played the game in the 1990s since im not a fgt.
>>339253039
I thought you sounded like a retard and you ring true every time.
>>339252989
Berserker might work, found it a bit shit, though.
>>339252938
AI is too gamey. Unreal also has neat AI moments in a sense that you can have aliens fight each other.
