Some to avoid controversy, such as Soleil being able to S-rank guys but have no real romantic dialog with them (unless you're Corrin or Foleo for some reason). Some are literally them changing things for the sake of changing things because as localisers they get paid for the changes they make.
Aqua's VA mentioned that when they were recording the voices, they were only really given outlines to characters and what they're like, which is why sometimes there is a disconnect between a character's voice and personality.

Henry's changes are mixedbag for some people who played the Japanese FE13 but overall most enjoyed the NA version of him.
NoA has changed and fixed some of the dumb story plots of the radiant series before.
Personally I think they got their A team for Xenoblade X considering the voice direction in that one is better than the average NoA voice localization.

I'm playing through Revelations on Lunitic right now. Got to the very end of chapter 13, killed every enemy but the boss, walked up to him with my samurai. He had 17% to hit and 24% to crit. if you're talking about Shadow Dragon which is for the NDS, you're literally playing the first fire emblem made just with extremely small enhancements so you're not going to get much from it. It's a very barebones game compared to the improvements of later series. However veterans love it for its difficulty.
Fire emblem is built on simplicity with small effects that can affect the entire battlefield. If you fuck up one small thing, then you'll royally screw yourself easily. The strategy is more of resource managing your small units as much as possible and these stereotypical trope characters may open up to you as you can see with its fanbase.
It's not a complex game but at the same time, its simplicity also makes it extremely difficult because it is easy to make one small mistake and lose the entire game.

I played Conquest on hard. It was difficult, but fun, until I reached chapter 21 or so. The game gets progressively harder, and it feels like you really need to plan ahead in order to beat later chapters. Pair people up with the right characters, change class at the right time to access abilities and stat growths, that kind of thing. If you go at it without a plan, your characters will eventually end up not strong enough to continue.

In Revelations, it's extremely useful early game since it boosts the avatars bulk and typically lets you deal more damage since enemies usually have a lot more def than res (by as much as 12 points in some cases) which can be really useful for attack stance since you have so few units.
In birthright, enemies are really weak so you'd rather want to be able to double. In Conquest, it's situationally useful depending on the enemy as you have slightly higher hit with it and occasionally deal more damage in attack stance.

Nohr maps and difficulty is its saving grace.
I'll never understand how people can support these games. The support conversations are basically one character's one and only defining character trait mixing with another characters one and only defining character trait for 3 or 4 conversations.There are characters like Elise and Camillia who serve no purpose other than to be fap bait, because both characters are horrendous ingame and I can't help but cringe every time they speak.
The story is terrible on all ends and Corrin is just about as bad as a main character can get, probably more boring than Chrom if that's even possible. The only good thing I can really say about it is the map design is better than Awakening, though that's not much of a feat.
For a game that revolves around it's story and characters, both of these are terrible and I keep asking myself how this is one of the most popular SRPGs out there. I remember I was 3/4ths through Conquest's story and stopped what I was doing and asked myself "why do people like this? What is there to like?"

I only love the series as much as I do because Path of Radiance was my first one. I can't stand certain aspects about either of the two 3DS games and mostly stick around because of some brand loyalty or something I guess. I mean the gameplay at least got better since Awakening, so there's gotta be hope for some improvement, especially when you look at Conquest.
But seriously, Path of Radiance set a pretty high standard for me, writing wise. That game tries to keep every character relevant and will suitably change the dialogue of scenes if anybody has died so far. As a story about a war, it's really pretty straight forward and doesn't have any meaningful twists, but that only means it can focus on characters and world building, and not risk doing anything retarded.
Anyway, sorry for going slightly off topic with a totally different game in the series but I just really loved PoR when younger and feel like it still holds up even today. It's what ultimately got me into this series and Sacred Stones wasn't half bad either in the characters department.
So Ipiratedthe SE, and I just undubbed and uncensored it. Should I go with the NoA translation or the fan translation? I've been told the latter is a lot more accurate, but it can also be "dry" and have typos (the Serene's Forest topic claims all the typos were fixed though in the latest release). Yeah I always hear about how 7 is good, but after having two FEs under my belt already, the fucking Lyn part really drags the game down for me. Not even just tutorial wise, it just feels like there really isn't anything going on plot wise and the maps feel pretty boring for the most part. Sacred Stones is my go to GBA game because it gets right to the point immediately and the maps make varying playthroughs interesting from the get go. That said though, PoR will always be the gold standard for me, but I feel like that might be unfair to some extent because that game went above and beyond to include a lot of little things to notice and overall did a good job with its cast, outside some poorly written ones like Ilyana and arguably Nephenee.

It's not that the Birthright characters are horrible but a lot of them are kind of standard. Those mentioned above are the best in Birthright. Of the women Oboro is the best personality, though Orochi is alright as well.

It really dropped the ball on handling most of the characters, in large due to generic supports and splitting focus between Ike and Micaiah. A lot of the characters really suffered because of it.

Both games have the same level of annoying characters that are just one collection of anime tropes. Yeah FE has had anime tropes in the past, but now that there's voice acting and player marriage, everyone's tropes have to be extenuated so they stand out.
You don't remember these characters for their deeds or multiple facets of their personality, all you remember is "haha Gaius loves candy!" or "haha Pieri is a psycho!"

I was hung up on it at first as well, but it has it's benefits, one example is like having to switch to a shitty bronze sword to eliminate crit potential, as opposed to something like a silver sword, which takes a significant amount of avoid away to fuck you against anything with crit or characters with shit luck.
