You're wrong.
Big companies can dish out any random game and make money, they're staying alive on name alone at this point.
Most of today's games are just altered copies of other games. Companies prefer to play it safe by making a clone rather than trying something new.
The only thing improving is the graphics.

You clearly were not around to see early 90s to early 2000s gaming, i doubt any period will beat that one until we get something like full immersion VR or AI:s shitting out perfection for us.

Hahaha holy fuck what a faggot
It depends on what you mean by a golden age, really. For example, video game technology is currently at it's peak, with many technical improvements that would of been impossible to implement in the previous generations.
We can make the worlds inside games bigger, more detailed, more beautiful, more immersive. Hell, Skyrim had books in bookshelves that you could actually read! They weren't just textures painted on a wall to make things seem less empty!
On the other hand, with all of these technical improvements we're seeing video games decline in terms of creativity. Those technical improvements aren't cheap to make and it's causing developers to play it safer and safer. The costs for video games are only ballooning and it's making it riskier to make games. Why risk millions of dollars on a brand new IP when you know the next Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty will always sell?
I don't think we're in a golden age yet, but we're heading into one. Budget games that aren't AAA titles but smaller and aimed at niche audiences are doing very well in their target markets. I've had more fun with games like Trillion: God of Destruction than I did with Assassin's Creed 3 for example. Plus, indie developers are finally starting to make interesting games like Salt and Sanctuary.
We're not in a golden age yet, but I feel that as the big companies and AAA titles suffer it will cause smaller developers and games to flourish. Soon people will stop buying the same franchises year after year because they've been burnt out.
This will probably lead to some kind of video game recession in the industry but it's a great time for progress. When a tree falls in a forest, lots of little plants will start growing in the space it left behind.
