Call me boring, but I recently developed an extreme appreciation of the uchigatana in DS3.
I saw some PVP displaying some incredibly aggressive playstyle, which is far different to the vast majority of even decent level PvPers, and decided to see if one of the katanas could manage something. The R1s of the katanas are the slowest they have been in any Souls, but the pokes, running attack, and the new weapon art are all super good. Through using other moves as initiators to move in to R1, I've been able to cobble together a very pleasing and high pressure playstyle.
Quite a lot of fun, and more engaging than stunlocking everyone and everything to death without effort with bighanders.

There's so much from DS2 I miss, like Powerstancing spotted whips and proper lances. Grand Lance was so fun to use. Miracles, too. That's one thing DS2 did better, was viability of way more things than DS3. Doing a sorcery build right now and it feels wrong using Great Heavy Soul Arrow over Soul Spear (pretty much the same DPS but less mana cost...). I haven't even tried miracles in DS3 yet but if they are as bad a sorcery I probably never will. Feels really shitty, man.

I don't like using the CB in 4U because of this. It's TOO good. It cuts off tails, can do lance tier blocking if not better than lance tier because guard points, and can knock out faster that hammers. If you feel like it, you can go sleep CB and be a one man status + wake up attack team.

Say what you want about the video itself, but that's not the point. It was merely a source of inspiration to remake my own combat style in to something far more active and aggressive in both PVP and PVE. Of course I couldn't use the video as a model for katana play, but it still gave me a good idea of what to aim for.
Don't stop to rest for stamina. Keep up pressure. Stamina management comes from steady use of force rather than blowing it in one go and knowing when I won't need a full stamina bar to defend myself based on enemy behavior. Resting to get full stamina means my opponent gets the same luxury of a break, and then I have to reinitiate anyway. And such. Always know what I am doing next rather than breaking off by rolling away like 90% of players do.
It works shockingly well. Helps that the R2s and the weapon art on the katana are so fucking good. Which then link in to using R1 if you catch them in either. Most players don't know how to cope with a hyper aggressive player in the first place. Much less someone good at it.
