Sure you can't.
That said, if the series has already established that most monsters will have fantastic and unrealistic designs, complaining about a monster having a fantastic and unrealistic design is just kind of dumb. It's an overarching design philosophy that most Pokemon have designs that lean more towards aesthetics than function, and it's dumb to single out one design when that sort of thing is present in most of the designs in Pokemon.
Coming to Pokemon for practical and realistic designs is like coming to Digimon for monsters that aren't bipedal or covered in dumb machine parts.

Which Gen4 designs are even bad? I've always thought it to be one of the strongest when it comes to design. Starters are all god-tier, especially Torterra, Staraptor is the coolest early-route bird, Giratina and Arceus are some of the best legendary designs ever barring Deoxys, and then there's all the evolutions that mostly made their lines way better performance-wise and in looks, most of all Porygon-Z, Electivire, Tangrowth, Weavile, Honchkrow and Mismagius. Just to name some I like.
The only weak ones I can see are Wormadam, Ambipom, Carnivine, and Drapion. Despite liking them myself, I can also see why people would dislike Palkia and Dialga, the three fairies, Rhyperior, Mamoswine, and Darkrai. Lucario gets too much shit on /vp/, he's overrated as fuck but he just seems to have a really solid design to me for what he is.

I think they're better games at the core, but I have a ton of little nitpicky reasons as to why I really can't get into HGSS that are mostly presentation or narrative related, because I hold the original GSC so dearly to my heart that I can't really stand any of them. The whole Kimono Girl and Ho-Oh/Lugia plot is just the tip of the iceberg, but it does work as a good example of my issues.
I honestly feel ORAS does a better job of capturing the spirit and feel of the original RS and improving on that, but it just makes too many trips when it comes to the actual gameplay or content. Like the dumbing down of the Safari Zone or Pokeblock creation, or cutting the New Mauville dungeon despite making a unique battle arena for it and the great atmosphere the redesign has, or all the Emerald stuff that just wasn't there. So it's like the direct opposite of HGSS, but it's even more flawed because in the end gameplay is what really matters. I guess at least it added some cool shit like Soaring and DexNav, though.

The Johto Dex was expanded to include the evolutions of Pokemon that were in the original Johto Dex. So, for example, you can evolve Yanma to Yanmega if you want, or Piloswine to Mamoswine. I'm pretty sure though from my recent replay that no opponent trainers use them for maingame, so you can ignore it if you wish up until SS Aqua.

There's no real point where Pokemon Designs became full retard. It just sort of happened through circumstance and trial and error. 4 was just where you could see a fair comparison because for the first time you could see what Gen IV designs looked like if they evolved from a Gen 1/2 design.
You can trace some stuff to certain gens though. Gen 3 created Gardevoir and it's ilk and popularized humanoid starters.

Man, Sinnoh really felt like home for me. Somehow I found it the most memorable, I know every inch of the region like the back of my hand, all of it's fresh in my memory still. And there was so much reason to stay around longer, with all the multiplayer content and the Underground, which was infinitely better than Gen3 bases that you couldn't truly visit people inor send them hurtling to the other side of the region on Hurl Traps
I think I've spent more time in Pearl and Platinum than all other gens combined. I wanna go back, gen 4 remakes would hype me to no end.

Natures and Abilities are easy as fuck to get, don't even start with me if you don't know your shit. The ones that are troublesome are IVs when it comes to breeding, and Gen1 had those too, only even more difficult to get because breeding didn't exist. EVs arguably as well, maybe a solid hour or two of grinding, but Gen 1 also had these too, except you could, and therefore had to, max every stat out if you wanted to be competitive, which of course would take three times the grinding.
But getting some decent IVs, good Nature, and correct Ability can take only a couple tries, so like ten minutes once you have the parents. ORAS, though I didn't like them mostly, made this even easier by having the Poke Radar find Pokemon with 1 to 3 perfect IVs.

I really enjoy the games personally, but they might feel very dated if you're used to the later games. I would personally recommend Gold/Silver over them, but Red/Blue have a really retro appeal that you might like anyway.
Plus, Red/Blue has the most fun glitches in the series.
