>/v/ says a game is shit
>it's actually pretty good

So why all the hate for Skyward Sword again? I don't get it, the game is fun. I hope they release the HD version aswell.
>>
While glitches helped me enjoy the game more, it is still quite linear. That and unskippable cutscenes in normal mode.
>>
Sure it fun when you're actually in a dungeon, the game is far heavier on the outside quests end, which includes a shitload of boring fetchquests which should have been side quests.

Sure there's some of that in other games but its blown completely out of proportion here and there's not enough dungeons, or diversity in enemies, to make up for it.

THE ZELDA CYCLE IS REAL
>>
>>339225976
Yeah it was a fine game. The problem was the "when it worked" aspect of it and many other Wii titles. When it worked, Skyward Sword was awesome.

But 50-80% reliability isn't good enough especially for a Nintendo game. It was good when it worked. Overall it was a fine game, but a disappointing Nintendo game to be sure.
>>
>>339228339
>When it worked, Skyward Sword was awesome.

Simon says combat and non-puzzles is awesome?
>>
>>339228412
Nig yeah, nag!
>>
>>339228412
Yeah the combat was engaging and the environments were fun. Also some of the dungeons were really cool and well designed.

Just wish it was all more reliable. And less linear! No idea what they were thinking with the design of the area around Skyloft and that weird flood thing toward the end.
>>
>>339228412
Every Zelda has simon says combat.
>>
>>339228718
Yeah the combat is pretty simple and easy. Zelda games aren't really about the challenge, that's for damn sure.

They're entertaining and just challenging enough to get your blood pumping but probably not enough to actually have you reach a fail state.
>>
>>339228624

>It turns fighting into a chore
Instead of simply slashing things you need to wait for it to do something so you can hit it at the right angle
>Dowsing quests
>Returning to previous areas
It just got boring by the end
>Game generally unmemorable
>Imprisoned fights
How to make Skyward Sword fun:
>Get gecko codes
>Remove Fi messages
>Remove repeated messages
>Remove Stamina gauge
>Hookshot can latch onto anything
>Hookshot can hit anything regardless of distance

There's other things, but I can't remember enough about the game to remember what else I used to make it fun.
>>
It was disappointing. Flying around in the sky was underwhelming, with little to explore and discover. The fetch quests were too repetive and became boring. In general, there wasn't much to do besides the linear story quests. Zelda games always rehash elements, but this game was the first time the experience felt stale to me.
>>
>>339228718

only if youre a fucking retard who hides behind the shield. Enemies died faster if you got gud

in SS it's literally a waiting game
>>
>>339228310
Personally I always liked it, (other than the fucking motion controls) but I have liked every Zelda at release.
>>
>>339228826
Disagree about the hallways. Most of the environments were colorful and creative and fun to traverse, though the overall structure of the game was very linear which was really a shame.

Definitely agree about the game being one of the worst in the franchise though. Very disappointing to see that level of quality from Nintendo.

The padding was the worst of any game I've ever played, even bravely default

collecting the music notes, the escort section, the dowsing, the silent realm, all 10000 imprisoned fights

The game had hours upon hours of tedium that served no point but to make the game longer

>1000 Imprisoned fights

Alot of the games flaws aren't overblown but this one always is.

You fight the Imprisoned three times and there's like a three dungeon gap between the first and second fights. Not to mention you can just bomb his fat ass the second and third times.
>>
>>339229492
That already happened with the TP nostalgiafagging, this SS thing is just an on and off thing whenever someone picks up the game for the first time and gets to the halfway point.

Dumb meme
>>
>>339225976

It's not shit but it's very very flawed

>sky is empty and might as well not exist, should have just put what little it had on the ground (or vice versa)
>loftwing adds nothing to the game and is just another dumb vehicle gimmick, controls aren't great either
>areas are rehashed three times, four if you include the silent realm segments
>Imprisoned is rehashed three times
>third act is pure filler and grinds the pacing to a halt
>Sandship and Ancient Cistern are good, but Fire Sanctuary is a rehash of Earth Temple, and Sky Keep is a half-assed sliding puzzle with reused assets (including the "boss")
>Sandship's boss design is a complete joke
>combat is fresh but restrictive, and the enemy variety is incredibly limited
>Fi is obnoxious and incredibly handholdy, yet has no real personality or strong role in the plot (pretty much a straight downgrade from Midna)
>continues the terrible trend of 3D Zeldas jerking off OoT
>final boss ends far too quickly

It still has the usual charm, has a few strong dungeons, and some good ideas here and there (crafting, stamina, bomb bowling, etc), but a lot of the hate is semi-justified. It's not an Other M-tier disaster, but Nintendo should learn from its mistakes.
>>
>>339225976
Because it's a giant repetitive fetch quest with few good puzzles and non exist interesting story.

But... but he was back then, anon.

Miyamoto wasn't shifted to his overseers position until after Iwata restructured Nintendo's departments in the late 00s.

Top-shelf meme.
>>
Despite "a new Zelda game for Wii" being in development for something like four years, SS as it released was made in one or two. Sucks because there were a lot of big ideas that had to get scrapped. But it's still fun.
>>
>>339230521
>being this new

LMAO
>>
>>339230576
He had already handed the series off to Aonuma by Wind Waker though. He came up with the Celda art style but that was it.
>>
>>339230705

I think SS feels so rushed because so much time and effort was focused on getting the motion controls right. Everything else was a secondary concern.
>>
List of franchises /v/ will unanimously shit on no matter how good a new game is:

Sonic
Zelda
Uncharted
Resident Evil
Pokemon

>>339230520
>>

Have you played any game other than SS anon?
>>
>>339230862
Yes and no

It started development with a motion emphasis but the team couldn't make it work so they switched to making a game without it

Then Motion+ and Wii Sports Resort entered development and the team was like "lol look at those Zelda dorks can't even do swords right" while they made a kendo fencing minigame with perfect 1:1 accuracy

So Zelda had the table upended *again* and we got Skyward Sword

>>
>>339225976
Every game they bitch about.
>>
>>339231069
>Then how come the dungeons are top-notch

That's a stretch. Ancient Cistern is good, Sandship is good except for the boss, Fire Sanctuary is a rehash of the Earth Temple, Sky Keep is a half-assed sliding puzzle with re-used assets, and the rest are mediocre. The bosses are the same way, some are good, some are shit, some are mediocre. I would not call the quality "top-notch" by any means.

In my opinion TP had more and (generally) better dungeons. It had quality AND quantity. SS can't really compare. Same with the companions, Midna is better in pretty much every way.
>>
>>339231435
The first temple in TP has you climb a few vines and chase an ape. The first temple in SS gives you the most awesome item to date, has you fighting surprisingly difficult spiders, a goddamn Stalfos and the hardest boss in the zelda series since the NES days.
>>
>>339231435
Midna was just Tatl with a body.

It was alright, not a bad game just not up to the standards I expect from a Zelda game. My biggest problem with it was that the flying part had a lot less exploration then I was hoping, I wanted that part to be like Wind Waker.
>>
>>339231582
>SS
>hardest anything

I like the game but come on
>>
>>339231582
Skyview Temple is 3 puzzle rooms, a miniboss and then a straight line to the boss. It's about as simple as the Great Deku Tree but in a game with only 6 1/2 dungeons instead of 9.
>>
>>339231759
Name a harder boss so I can laugh at you.
>>
>>339231582
>the first thing I don't like is extremely simplistic
>the second thing is so amazing and detailed

Totally not a biased comparison at all. Personally I thought the monkeys were much more memorable than anything in Skyview Temple. I love the beetle, and Ghirahim, but the actual design and theme of the dungeon were fairly weak.

The only reason people would find Ghirahim hard is because they're still coming to grips with the motion controls. 3D Zeldas are generally piss easy so there's not much competition, but he's still easier than most of LttP.

>>339231596

I think you're overestimating how good Tatl was. Better than Navi for sure, but ultimately she was still stuck in her shadow. Midna has a strong personality, theme, sound design, visual design, and story role.

Their personality is EXACTLY the same as far as companionship. " Oh you're asking ME for help? Sure I'll help I GUESS." Same shit. All Midna has is more visual presence and an appeal to lonely subs.
>>
What the hell are you guys talking about
skyward sword was a good game
FOR ONE PLAYTHROUGH
It didnt have any replayability, once you've seen the game, that was enough.
Going through it a second time with all the shitty dialogue and tutorial bits with forced cutscenes made it a huge waste of time.
It was something that was neat at first but gets very old quickly
that was the issue, it wasnt a glitch or "reliablity" on making boss fights work

Also personally i was expecting some great composed songs that would match gerudo valley for some reason. Maybe it was just from my initial reaction to the theme music of the game, but i had high hopes that i would be listening to the OST. Most of the songs were just boring generic orchestra to fill the void

I wonder if the Scorpion was a test miniboss form the E3 demo first then stuck into the Mining Facility as an actual boss or the other way around.

But then that brings the question of how the fuck do you rush a game that was 5 years into development?

No, it just had quantity. SS had neither quantity nor quality so it's created the illusion that TP was a good game when it was in fact, not.

I don't get assessing Zelda games by measuring against some check list. I just figure how much time I spent enjoying it vs. how much spent not enjoying it. Like any other game. TP dungeons are more elaborate and clever sure but I definitely spent more time being bored or annoyed by it than SS.
