There's a glitch you can exploit in Halo 3 in the last level to cause Johnson to "survive" his death scene and have a copy of himself outside the room after you kill Guilty Spark.

This is the only instance since Halo CE where Johnson is not invincible, and this copy can die or even be infected by Flood. He won't follow you anywhere, but you can push him to the Warthogs waiting for you to drive to the end, and he'll jump in, allowing you to "save" Johnson by bringing him along on the final Warthog run.
>>
>>339223782
In Halo CE on the mission 343 Guilty Spark, you can see flood combat forms running along the edges of the map if you're fast enough moving through the fog, these are the yellow blips on your radar.
>>
>>339225663
Yep. What's really cool is that they also recorded combat dialogue for it; Johnson says "I thought I was immune to this" while being infected.
>>
When you grab a berserk pack in Doom, most new players will assume that the super strength punches only last while your screen is tinted red, but the effect actually lasts the entire map until you progress to a new level. This makes conserving ammo while fighting weaker enemies pretty easy on harder difficulties.

A lot of players also fail to understand how the BFG 9000 properly works. Rather than write out a complicated description of how it works, here's a picture to illustrate it instead.

The Cyber Demon is actually the fastest demon in Doom, and the second fastest in future games behind the Archvile.

The original clay model of the Mancubus actually has three pairs of breasts and nipples, however on the in-game sprites the nipples are very difficult to make out; they simple appear as three dark dots in certain frames of animation.

E3M2 (Sloth of Despair) is shaped like a hand.

Yeah, it's relative to where you fire. I suppose that image didn't convey that well enough, but the tracer damage essentially locks at the angle that you fire from, and then activates once the orb detonates.

Additional Doom fact: you can kill the Spider Mastermind in one BFG blast by being right in its face when the tracer rounds detonate; because it's a cone of fire and due to the Spider Mastermind having the largest hitbox in the game, it essentially takes hundreds of damage from the tracers.

Most PS2 and 360 online games had zero protection from native data manipulation.

For example, you could use a Gameshark in Timesplitters: Future Perfect for infinite ammo and health in online matches. And in the 360 edition of TF2, you could use a plug-in to place Half-Life 2 props all over the map, trap people in spawn, use Half-Life 2 weapons, etc.
>>
In FF7 you can choose when to get Vincent. Either as Cloud before he goes retarded or as Tifa, Barret, or Cid when they become temporary leaders. They each have different things to say to Vincent. I think it goes the same for Yuffie too.

Think of the BFG as a rocket and a shotgun combined. The ball is the rocket and does a bit of AoE damage when it hits. When it does, the shotgun shot comes out and sprays everything for big damage.

Lots of people do it wrong. They think it's just a rocket with a huge AoE that doesn't hurt the player so they peek around a corner, fire it, and then pop back into cover over for the wall to absorb 99% of the 'pellets'.

No it isn't. The only thing that matters is the direction the ball is fired.

In Halo 2, on the level high charity, there's a huge open room that is mostly composed of empty space, and 3 platforms arranged in a circle around the perimeter of the room connected by gravity bridges.

If you look up at thee ceiling, you'll see what looks like a giant chandelier. This is actually a collection of glass shards from all the planets the covenant has glassed, which is mentioned in one of the books that came out a little while before H2 did: First Strike.

Halo became so big that it changed the benchmark for shooters. They became slower and more accessible for casuals. This sucks for many of us from /v/ of old who loved games like UT and Quake. Halo isn't actually slow, it just seems that way because things are scaled realistically.

You still move around at like 30 mph if you actually measure it. You'll note that in halo, if you and a marine start to move from the same point in the same direction, you'll very quickly outpace him by a large margin.

As a side affect from this, lorefags can use the in game models to measure the exact size of stuff, which leads to cool interactive scale charts of spacehips and stuff like this http://halo.bungie.org/misc/sloftus_scalecomparison/1280h.html

Anyways, there's a lot more to skill in shooters then movement speed. One thing halo games have that stuff like Doom for example didn't was the shield/health interplay, where certain guns would do more damage to your shields, but less to your health, and vis versa.

And as much flak as it gets, having a weapon limit, if your weapons are well balanced, can add a level of skill and teamwork with regards to map control to ufocus on picking up certain guns that cvompliment around where on the map you'll be playing and forcing you to manage what strengths and weaknesses that weapon combo have. It's a shame the vast mjority of halo gfames have shit weapon balance meaning the benefit of having a two gun limit is lost since one gun is the only one you ever really want to use anyways

The forge now that we have it is also almost a dev tool. It has complex scirpting, material editing for objects, sound and volume emitters, time of day effects, etc

I wouldn't have reccomended it at launch due to the fact it lacked so much at launch even if the gameplay and what was there was great, but now that it actually has all the content it should have had to begin with i'd say it's the best halo game since 2.

It still doesn't have splitscreen though, which sucks, so if that's something you really want, you might not want to get it still.
>>

mother 3 has the best writing of any game that i've played

that and the all the polish, more devs should look to it as an example

It's really just the loadouts and ca- ordinances that did the damage.
I actually liked most of the maps.

It's a shame they ruined the possible GOAT SP material though.

It's astounding how they managed to make you being dropped in the middle of an other worldy alium war, boring and uneventful.

I wouldn't say that. 5 has issues but the MP is great. It shows 343 is improving and getting better. A lot of the newer novels are nyuland tier as well, thankfully, after the meh to awfulness that was the travis books

4 also, even though it did so much wrong, was better then I expected it to be. It did a lot more right then people give it credit for. I stand by what I said in >>339231809, but on the other hand, the skyboxes look great if pixel-y due to the low resolution of texutes, the lighting and volumetric effects look fantastic. The gameplay still fundamentally feels like halo even if it's coated in a layer of CoD ash with the loadouts and stuff. The changes they made to the scoreboard are actually great and reward objective and teamplay. The MP map design is about on par with 3's, etc

>>339232941
Nah, that's still not in and they said that though the fan reaction has made them want to make it a priority for 6, it's just not feasible to add it in for 5 post launch (they were able to patch in extra controller settings like deadzone adjuistments as well as new color options for spartan customuization post launch though). They have said forge might get an offline mode, though, and 5's forge and customs ARE coming to PC, so it might get local that way

personally it doesn't bother me too much since I have nobody to play locally with anyways and the gameplay itself is great, but for a lot of people halo is a couch game and it's no suprise it's exclusion angers so many people
>>
>>339232941

>He also denies that Halo: Reach had any retcons, and is incapable of understanding the definition of a retcon.

I've seen multiple people say this because it's true. Do you know the definition of a retcon?

It means something that was once canon isn't canon anymore. For example, Cortana saying in halo 4 she was the only AI she knew about that was made using a human brain is a retcon because all smart AI's are made with human brains

With Reach, everything in TFoR is still canon. It's just there was additional context given for those events.

>All explained in the journal
Yeah with a giant tablet of salt. You have to assume Halsey is so fucking stupid that in the entirety of Reach, not only is she fine with not having known where one of her Spartans was, but also the fact that a bunch of troops talk to her calling themselves Spartans, and she doesn't figure out until First Strike that MAYBE those guys were S3's? and then doesn't even confirm the programs existence till GoO? That makes Halsey out to be a fucking retard. I'm not going to debate it since technically it's explained, but I hold that it's a shitty explanation.

>Are explained in subsequent lore like the data drops
They are different explanations than what we were originally given. AKA retcons. That's the fucking discussion we're having.

>can you clarify here?
If you know that little about Halo lore I shouldn't have to spoonfeed you. But basically the Brutes got stripped of power armor after Harvest, and this was consistent throughout all the games. They got it back in Halo 3 because the Elites already fucked off from the Covenant, and presumably they needed the Brutes to be at their best. Giving them that all the way back at Reach is fucking stupid and breaks canon.

Also I like how you ignored my complaint about Longsword fighters.

-Sonya is the name of Ed Boon's sister
-In the atari game of Karateka there's some text hidden in the code that says "Mom and I are one" which has to do with subliminal messages and an experiment in 1985 of how this text reaffirms self steem
-In Banjo Kazooie the pot flowers in mad monster mansion say thank you when you put an egg in them, that is commonly known, however the guy who voiced them which is the game sound compositor had to redo a lot of times the line because nintendo thought he was saying fuck you
-The game Kakuto Chojin uses the same muslim chant that was removed from OoT, which comes from a sound library sample, they ran into some issues because people were assmad at it and the game had to be retired from shelves
-In the wii game of animal crossing (city folk) you get different chinese zodiac shirts depending on the year AND at the end of the year, the game was released around 2008 but you can still get shirts specially made from 2000 to 2008 they stop being handed out on the year 2035
-There's a creepy easter egg that can only be seen in Assassins Creed 2 DLC, after you reunite with Niccolo you can go to the old house of Ezio (the first one where he lived) and if you use your eagle vision in there you can see all the auditore dead family members

This. The only reason it was considered "great" at the time was because there weren't that many decent console FPS games. If you look up aggregated scores for the XBox version and compare them to the PC version, you'll find the PC version has a much lower score. It was just another average shooter on the PC.

The outdoor areas were fun, but holy shit. I've never played another FPS with such bland, boring, copy-pasted areas. There was this one large, pyramid-shaped room that I saw about 15 times throughout the game. Every time I saw it, all the enemies inside it were in the same place. To be fair though if they kept making Pikmin games that had constant references to the original maps with their designs it'd eventually put them in a corner

I'm fine with it being just 1+2 since it just means when Olimar goes back he makes sure to land in the places he remembers going to before, but they've changed somewhat since last time

The Pikmin 3 crew crashed so they just ended up somewhere else completely

The Man On Fire can be quickly defeated during the battle in Voices by using a max ranked Stun Arm, Ocelot will make a comment referencing his similar demise in MGS3.
Similarly in The Man On Fire fight Tretij Rebenok can be seen hovering above Then Man On Fire if you use NVGs not unlike which is reminiscent of the player needing to use Thermal Goggles to see Psycho Mantis during his boss fight in MGS1.

The Skulls fight in Code Talker can be totally avoided by sneaking past the Skull Snipers, in doing so the enemy CP will not call in an alert once you reach the mansion and the Skull Snipers will return after you have found Code Talker with a huge hoard of puppet soldiers in tow.

I really wish there were more secrets like this in TPP and GZ.

Oh, I know what you are talking about in contact harvest. I thought you meant Maccabeus's troops did something wrong and they were stripped of the armor because of it. You mean how the elites didn't allow brutes to command spaceships and such. That had nothing to do with the power armor

>they aren't issues because I say they aren't

No, because logic dictates it.

Nothing in prior lore prevents Jorge from having customized armor. TFORr doesn't even fucking state all the MK4 suits were identical, just that they were ifrnyivsl in stature and color. There's nothing striclty preventing customization to have gone on susbquently, and there are large timegaps of decades where such things could take place.

Speaking of timegaps, unless I am misremebering tfor, there's one of a number of hours where john is in cyro in the auttumn where it could have dipped back down into the atmosphere, explaining that.

As for jun, again, there's no reason why he HAD to have stuck around castle base. He could have dropped her off then gone somewhere else or stayed hidden.

There's nothing stating all zealots were always gold. Saying that's a retcon is tantamount to saying the armor model changea and slight color changes from game to game is a retcon in itself

in skyrim there's the town of rorikstead. there aren't any quests there.

the lord of the town is rorik. you can ask him if the town is named after him. he says "Yes, that's right. Look around you. Most of the lands you see are mine. Most of this I purchased while my comrades were fighting in the south, helping the Empire against the Aldmeri Dominion. Back then, nothing would grow here and so the land was worthless. Now, thanks to hard work and the gods' blessings, our farms prosper."

except: if you listen to the bards songs they sing "There once was a hero named Ragnar the Red, who came riding to Whiterun from ole Rorikstead!"

on top of that, there's a book called Holdings of Jarl Gjalund. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Holdings_of_Jarl_Gjalund
it mentions Rorik's Steading. the book is hundreds, maybe thousands of years old. then there's this book from 2nd era http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Atlas_of_Dragons. "Nahagliiv - Local tales name him as the dragon buried in the mound west of Rorikstead. No date associated with his death, although almost surely dates to the Dragon War era."

rorik is no great war veteran, he's an immortal being. but what exactly? there aren't many clues, though he has this book in his house http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Spirit_of_the_Daedra

The main character of The Talos Principle has a map of André Citroën Park on the back of its head which can also be found on the recorders.
People assume that it's a hint to one of Serious Sam 4's locations.

That was an honest mistake on my part both times, I apologize.

You are correct with the longsword thing, though I bungie just probably forgot to add them in and I don't see it as an issue because I don't think it's meant to be canon they suddenly weren't there.

A lot of the exact visuals or troop numbers in the games aren't canon to begin with, i'd say it's something like that, but if you wanna count that as a retcon, sure, go ahead, I'd say that has some validity to it.

Okay, cool, great, it has retcons then.

I still like the game. It's not my favorite Halo but the armors great, the enemy design and AI is great, the story is pretty good for what it is, and i had fun with it. Frankly I don't know why there being a retcon or two seems bad to you- any franchise that's been around long enough rewrites something or another, and that's okay.

Anyway, sorry for calling you retard/idiot/ape/etc.
