What an amazing level. I just played through it and at first I didn't find it to be anything special. It was fun, a ton of great platforming segments, but otherwise nothing really stood out for me.

Until I got to the fall. Holy shit. Something about the fall made me fall in love with this level. I liked how things gradually progressed as time went on, but it all just hit me during the fall. Maybe it was the leaves on the ground or something, but I was in love with autumn. Then seeing everything dead in the winter, all the npcs gone, and the house boarded up pretty much put the finishing touches on an amazing level.

I know that if I played this game as a kid it would have left a lasting impression on me like Spyro did. This makes me all the more excited for Banjo Tooie, but even more so for Yooka Laylee. I hope the sequel is just as good, and the spiritual successor can capture the magic.

This can be a B&K thread. Or a Yooka Laylee thread. Or a platformer in general thread.
Feel free to post your favorite soundtrack from the game, or general expectations for YL. How is Banjo Tooie? Will I like it as much as this game? What was your favorite BK level?

What did they mean by this?

They meant that I should have used a different image.

>mfw the entire soundtrack for this game

I'll never stop listening to it. My father bought me the OST (or got it for free) on CD when the game launched. To this day I have no idea how he even heard of the game.

Thanks dad.

Banjo Tooie is a very different game, structurally. You can't play it like Kazooie and expect to finish each world in one go. The level design is iffy at points, there's a lot of pointless dead space and its easy to get lost your first time though, but they pull some cool shit with the worlds that I won't spoil.
And yeah I'm excited as fuck for Y-L after the magazine article scans.
>>
I need to replay BK and BT this level was great maximum comfy. Mad Monster Mansion was probably my favorite level the only level I really didn't like was Rusty Bucket Bay for obvious reason.

>>339221435
Getting lost sounds terrible. I got lost a few times in the hub world when picking up the game after a few months of not playing it. Not fun, but eventually memorized the place.

>>339221538
Comfy is the perfect word for it. Believe it or not, Rare Replay was one of the things that made me get an xbone.
Mad Monster Mansion was so much fun. I absolutely loved it. Thinking back, it might have been my favorite level before the woods. Rusty Bucket Bay was fucking shit though. Well, not shit, but I didn't like it either. I beat it today after a ton of infuriating deaths. Plus I have no idea how they expected me to know to break the windows on the ship, seeing as that I'd have to be looking right at them to realize they looked different than the painted on textures.
>>
>>339221805

That how you define quality, do they look handsome? Cute? Hip? Or aware of their current look? If not, you got a man who will put his life behind something and waste it viciously perfecting that skill.
>>
>>339221435
I think there was maybe 1 stage in Banjo Kazooie you could not finish in the first go. If I recall correctly there was one jiggy that you could not get until getting an ability from a later stage.

I personally prefer the level design of Banjo Tooie re-visting previous stages was mandatory and I really liked that the stages were interconnected and formed one big cohesive world. Both games are GOAT material in their own right though. Banjo Tooie's level design was way ahead of its time especially compared to what sony was doing with Crash for example (love the Crash series as well). I have not been excited for a game as much as I am with Yooka Laylee in a very long time.

Banjo Kazooie is probably the comfiest game ever made
>>
>>339222368
I'd assume so. I was reading that they made some quality of life improvements to the game, such as not losing your notes when leaving a world or dying.

>>339222590
It is. I'm actually a bit sad that all I have left is Gruntilda now. The woods is the last level, right?

>>
>>339222368
The 360 version is very good. Its pretty much identical to the N64 version except for a better framerate and a cleaner higher resolution look.

It has some extra content relating to the stop n swap stuff removed from the N64 version but its forgettable.
>>
>>339220735
I still remember the woo this game made me felt when I first got to those levels when I was a kid exploring this game, and even now it still looks nice. Also tight controls, made me badly accuotomed for other blunders I would play to this day.
>>
> such as not losing your notes when leaving a world or dying.

WHAT?! This is the most fucking stupid shit of all time!

Finally getting all 100 Notes in a single run was the most awesome feeling of all! It's not like you NEED to do it either. Ugh.
>>
>>339222815
>It is. I'm actually a bit sad that all I have left is Gruntilda now. The woods is the last level, right?

There's still a bit of game left before Grunty herself, but no more levels.

Hope you got at least 94 jiggies

I loved Banjo Kazooie as a kid but never got to Click Clock Wood. I remember tiny pictures of the zone and being able to transform into a Bee and hyped it up massively. It's my biggest gaming regret, but I'll never go back and finish it now because I'm cynical and it will be shit compared to how I've hyped it to be.
>>
>>339223579
I agree it felt a lot more rewarding getting all 100 in a single go. That was one of the few things I disliked in Banjo Tooie, notes felt insignificant compared to the first game.

In Banjo Tooie notes were worth 5 a piece and there was one treble clef hidden per level worth 20 so you only collected 17 total per level. They were also used to gain abilities instead of opening new levels.

Why was Rare the only ones who could make a good looking N64 game? That still looks pretty nice, besides the tiny textures.
>>

This blew my mind when you got the washing machine transformation

Sucks it does not save but there were a few jiggies that were actually impossible to get with it.

I remember the easter egg where mumbo teases a T-Rex transformation it must have been really rare to get the dialogue because I've only ever seen it once. Then they actually added it in Banjo-Tooie and it was the fucking shit.

Envious of you OP, I remember the first time I played BK and BT, both are bretty fun. I'd go as far as to say they are in my top 10 all time favorites.

Tooie is a different beast from Kazooie. They play the same but Tooie does the world thing differently, which I kinda like. Feels more like an adventure than a series of worlds, though I liked some of Kazooie's levels more. I guess I'm in the minority, Rusty Bucket was my favorite stage in the first one. Dat music.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wg9vBGYH4Ow

Tooie is a good sequel, I don't think you'll be disappointed. You start with all the moves you learned in Kazooie too, as well as learn a bunch of new ones. Also has one of my favorite underwater themes of all time.

Rusty Bucket Bay is a great level. It has lots of things to explore and yet it doesn't feel convoluted, it nails it with the atmosphere, and also has a very fun mini-boss.

I also keked in Nuts & Bolts when someone from Rare wrote that it was the best level of BK, but all the kids hated it because they couldn't git gud.

Single digit framerate in Glitter Gulch Valley is CLEARLY how the game was MEANT to be played.

But seriously, the 360 versions are better in every way shape and form, unless you really like the N64 controller that much.

Meh, they were already fine on the N64.
The Xbox versions add a very nice make-up to them, but I feel like anyone who wants to replay or try the series for the first time is gonna fare well with whatever platform they find more convenient to use.

I don't know. I would prefer to feel surprised by Y-L if it actually ends up being a good game that expands on the BK formula. But I don't want to be let down if that isn't the case, so I try to don't think too much about that game.

Rusty Bucket Bay is one of my absolute favourite levels in the series.

I replayed BK recently after about ten years, and I blitzed my way through the game, all the way up until the engine room where I died over and over. It fucking sucked, and yet it was also really good because it was like happy childhood memories. Of dying constantly.
>>
If you're just in the mood for Banjo talk because of this thread, I recommend watching the episode of Game Grumps with Grant Kirkhope as a guest. Whether you like Game Grumps or not, Grant worked on the sound for Banjo and reveals some development information, you just might it interesting I don't know. For example, the graves saying 'thank you' were rejected from Nintendo several times because they thought they were saying 'fuck you'.
>>
>>339222368
Definitely for tooie.

You get the stop and swop items and the framerate isn't unplayable.
>>
>>339220735
Didn't care for Click Clock Wood. It was okay at first but going through it four times was a chore. Loved Rusty Bucket Bay, though.
>>
>>339220735
ironically i never really liked the single player in banjo tooie much. It had more shit and on paper i should have liked it more, it just felt too tedious.
theres that one jiggy at the start, its not hard to figure out what you have to do but you have to walk from point a to point b then to point c then to point a again then to point d then back to c then finaly a again. it makes "fetch quests" found in mmos look tame.
on the other hand some parts really make me think and have me stumped for a while.
it was my most anticipated game at that time though and me and my friends all played the multiplayer on it a lot.

n64 for kazooie, nobody should be able to fight grunty without getting 100 notes on Rusty Bucket Bay in one life. Tooie is probably better on 360, but Kazooie is Babby tier retard mode on 360.
>>
So OP, you plan on playing Banjo Tooie next, right? Some advice, the levels in that game can't be completed in one go, like in Kazooie. It requires extensive backtracking, and with the interconnectivity of the worlds, not to mention the shear size compared to the previous game, this game becomes a different beast entirely. You probably won't like it as much as the first game.
>>
That is the shittiest world ever, I don't think I'll ever complete my 100% run because of that fucking world and all the notes, fucking always random notes left and suddenly fall out of the tree. Fuk that world FUK IT
