What else would you use it for? Well even the plagas armor isn't really necessary, you can just use a rifle.
You get a rocket launcher for free and it's by far the best way to dispatch bosses. It's cheaper than a magnum and in my files anyway, they take less space than a magnum and all the ammo you get.
