>the Sea Dragon Leviathan is far enough in development to be over 2x the size of the Reaper Leviathan (and still not at full size yet) and have most of its animations in place, including its one-hit-kill attack where it swallows you whole before you respawn back in the escape pod

Fucking christ, Subnautica is going to be giving me nightmares by the time it comes out. And this is on top of all the crazy scary shit already in it and being developed at the moment.
>>

Where are these things going to live?
>>

The Exosuit can damage and kill things with its digging arm and drill right now, and it can't be damaged by anything, but that's for sure going to change. As far as I know there won't be any lethal weapons other than the knife.

>>339220325
The only confirmed location at the moment is the Sea Dragon Den, which is down in the lava field caverns at around 1500 meters. There may be a few more in other deep-water areas later on.
>>
>>339220226
You dont, that's what makes the game so great and keeps it from being another boring "hurr survive, craft, and kill everything" game

You hear it roaring a lot before it spawns and when it does, it's massive and can instantly kill you if it sees you. The threat makes up for the silly design.

People find the deep sea to be scary. The starting area is nice with shallow coral reefs but as you explore, it keeps getting deeper.

There's something about floating above a watery nothingness and hearing something very nasty echoing around you.
>>
>>339224712
It usually doesn't spawn like that.

I wish I could find you a video of swimming up close to the crashed ship. It's pretty unnerving, especially if you have submechanophobia.

But the components needed to make a simple weapon are far less complicated that what is required to build almost anything else that you can make.

I don't expect a minigun, but it seems quite ridiculous that you have access to all of this technology, but a simple weapon invented before electricity was used is unavailable.

There is a propulsion rifle or something like that. Which can launch small fish and a rifle that causes stasis which is useful.
The sub also has vortex torpedoes.
>>
>>339226346
The simple fact is this isn't a survival game where you pew-pew everything to death. You have a knife, a stasis gun, and a propulsion cannon for yourself, and vortex torpedoes for your Seamoth. That's it. You're surviving by avoiding the scary monsters, not by shooting them.

You have a stasis rifle that can freeze most creatures for a few seconds. You can go in with a knife to kill them but it's more a means of escape. The seamoth also has non-lethal missiles but I haven't tried them.

The devs seem fixed on the player respecting that some areas of the game will always remain dangerous and that you're not wiping out species of predator to build a villa in their area.
>>
>>339220120
How "close" is this game to completion? I watched a few videos showcasing it as some kind of alpha or beta, as well as downloaded an older copy, but figured I would be better off waiting for a future update before throwing money at it.

I'm also assuming there will be no multiplayer of any sorts with this title, due to how that can ruin the isolation, or am I incorrect in this assumption?

They have a story for it and a lot is already done, but there's still a lot to do. It's perfectly playable at the moment but there's also nothing to do besides explore, collect, build, fix the ship, scan things, and other non-story stuff. There's going to be a LOT in this game when it's done, though.

They are thinking of multiplayer, but they're not working on that yet. So far they're focusing on the single-player aspect.

Prior to Subnautica the developer Unknown Worlds made a game called Natural Selection 2. They hired a no hoper Australian to do their public relations for them. The problem was he got more involved and started influencing the direction of the game so much so that 70% of the entire playerbase dropped the game within a month and when a sale went on to try and recoup the losses he fucked up again by releasing an untested match which basically made the game unplayable and all the new players quit.

For 2 years the game pretty much sat in a position of a low but sustainable population but this moron got involved again as of a few months ago and started releasing weekly balancing patches which has effectively caused the entire remaining playerbase to quit for Overwatch.

He fucked up NS2 and he's going to fuck up Subnautica for you.

I highly encourage you to try/pirate it. I've gone through games like resident evils and amnesia but this game is up there with the most tense experiences I've had in the last few years. I get really nervous just going outside in the starting area. Going beyond that is extremely spooky and each little sound you hear makes you instantly want to go back to your base leaving a yellow trail behind you.

This handsome fellow is going to be at the center of the game's story, along with some other people who crashed before you did who've turned themselves into the Warper creatures. He's going to be passive/defensive when implemented, which is good because he's going to be the biggest creature in the game, dwarfing the Reaper Leviathan and the Sea Dragon Leviathan.

idk man the way i look at it if somethings gonna try and eat me out there, its gonna be a shark. a shark isnt gonna kill me because im gonna punch the motherfucker til it lets go.

more likely, its gonna maim me and ill either be unable to keep swimming and drown, or a bunch of other sharks will be attracted to me and ill get gibbed in less than a minute.

those two outcomes sound bad, but on top of it being statistically really low that i do get attacked, if i did, itd only be a few minutes of pain and then its over. there are way worse ways to die. like being burned to death but only enough that your face melts off and you die of infection later on. that shit is horrible man i would never wish that on anyone

Not quite, from what we know and guessed the Warper is the one shooting down spaceships and the Sea Emperor is supposed to "help you" solving this problem.

This is only speculation from the few infos the dev' gave about them.

Depends on the context. If cunt is used among friends and that i.e. "haha funny cunt", it's generally laughed off but to call someone a cunt is seen as rude.

Australian culture is the worst. That's why we're "multicultural" now; we had no culture in the first place so we decided to latch on to everyone else's.

Did you read the article I linked? A lot of our "hurr bogans straya cunt" actually stems from a culture of anti-authoritarianism, black humour and being laid back about certain things which would probably get you hit in the face in other countries.

If something exists, an Australian has probably had a laugh about it. Australians in the late 19th and early 20th century often relied on black humour as a means of coping with the horrible circumstances they were facing.

nnah, it would be a nightmare to code and animate, you couldn't give it procedural animated tentacles, it all has to be canned animations which makes it look stiff, less organic. if you would try to animate each tentacle seperately, giving each arm its own AI , controlled by some hive mind main ai, giving the orders which arm has to attack/constrict/move any target, you would need to create some sort of 3d space navigational mesh , like hitboxes for navigation, so these arms would know whats grab able and whats not, where it can wrap around and where not. its a nightmare and would consume so much development time, they could develop 60 other creatures and technologies in the same time.

What sort of variety could we expect from the Colossi? And how would they be dealt with when they reach a gigantic size?

a few years ago we had a guy get attacked by bronze whalers
they took of his left arm and right hand in a feeding frenzy
dude managed to swim all the way to shore and bystanders managed to save him

he said the whole time he was just dreading the thought that at any time as he frantically swam to shore pissing blood, he expected to be hit by a great white from below or to be dragged back further out
fuck. that. shit. man.

First get a knife, then a scanner, then scan the little safes you find everywhere, then build a mobile vehicule bay, then the seamoth and the go explore, build your base, craft whatever you want...

Where the hell is this? There's only two bases in the game and in one of them the PDAs are blank.

Yeah, the base on the island just has a PDA that says "good thing my son got his botany imprint now we won't starve"

Nothing about what that post says

The cave where you got the crab snake has a base somewhere, it's a log in there if I remember correctly. It's spoopy there.

Also there are like 3 or 4 logs on the island.

Starbound, Minecraft and Terraria comes to mind, there might be more.

Weird, only the one log works for me. Then again I'm always in the experimental branch, so whatever.

Craft air tank and knife. Then craft a scanner. Then craft a radiation-proof suit.

Scan everything you can, search for fragments. Fragments are typically placeholder boxes on the ground, apart for the subs, which are modelised

Find a nice place to start a base. Preferably somewhere deep and open enough so you won't have troubles expanding. Craft a fabricator, two waters filtration machines, and a big water tank (not a simple aquarium). Catch some fishes of the same specie and release them in the tank. Now you've got the hunger and thirst issue out of the way.

The deep sea is my greatest fear but these designs aren't really doing it for me, you'd think being to alien wouldn't be a problem considering the crazy sit that's in our oceans but they just don't look or sound scary.

Even a harmless and beautiful encounter with a whale is scarier then this.
