thats because a different item does. hearts are used like magic for your item attacks
>>
>>339214157
No it doesn't. A bat boss killed me three times then I had to start over from the beginning.

git gud faggot

That goes against common logic. They could have used a flask instead.

Castlevania was made during the days where your only choice of games was a glitchy unplayable mess, or one that barely functions. People like it because it's the latter.

Do you still use Nesticle? Nestopia and FCEUX are close enough to real hardware that the difference is largely negligible. I play NES games on a flashcart on original hardware so the image doesn't look like shit however.

They're cycle-accurate actually

nigga I beat this fuckin game on my phone
>>
>>339218419
Strange. I was almost the opposite. I was able to play through CV3 in any route, with any character, even through the "New Game+" with solo Trevor. (And NG+ was more difficult than the standard game.) But for the longest time, I just couldn't get through CV1 no matter how hard I tried.

I eventually did go back and beat the original, but it was years after I had first played the NES titles.

Because there used to be a time when games were challenging and beating one was an achievment instead of a task completed. Some of the games today on highest difficulty are also unforgiving. You just need to git gud.

While all your points are valid, classic gamers think the difficulty is part of the charm. I personally like the older Castlevania games because they had some of the best music and design of NES-PS1 games. But yes, some of them like Adventure, 2 and Bloodlines have some pretty shitty level design.

Classic Castlevania games did have overly stiff controls and having to start at the beginning of the level after dying was really annoying. It would be one thing if this was only limited to the NES games. But they kept both mechanics even into the Turbo Graphix, SNES and PS1 games. There's really no excuse for Richter Belmont to be limited to a shitty jump and a walking speed of 1 MPH. About the only thing Rondo fixed was not being thrown back when you take damage, which actually caused a new problem. Some bosses and enemies could hit you multiple times since you're frozen in place.
