It's still extremely useful with the right character.
You can get by with characters like Jigglypuff and Peach since I think they have some of the worst wavedash lengths in the game and are still very viable characters.
I would still recommend have to wavedash at an efficient level and learn how to incorporate it into a character's playstyle if you decide to main either one of those characters. I would say it's the first Melee all-around advance technique you should master.

you have to find what works for you, be it music or handwarmers or something. don't try to to everything exactly the same as that one time you beat that one guy though, because it won't be the same and you'll take a mental blow when things dont go as expected

The latest smash was the first one where they made any attempt to cater to the competitive scene with the omega stages and speed the gameplay back up a little bit.

Luigi and Doc are both viable.
Luigi is great because of those slippery smooth wavedashes and shoryukens.
To be good with Doc you pretty much have to be the god of neutral game as you only really have 2 or 3 kill moves.
Doc vs Marth is the exact definition of struggle town as there are so few approach options against him.

I don't think he flat out wins the matchup. Falcon' s play is pretty much based around being able to flat out body most of the cast, but also be completely destroyed by every single character in the game. Fuck even Pichu can get death combos on him. Peach is one of the true attrition characters in the game. She can scuffle in almost every position and punishes mistakes super hard. Falcons always want to be bulldozers, but in reality you have to be a ballerina.

I agree that falcon has it rough. I argue he's even top 8 honestly, but this match up is super easy for a falcon that thinks.

Not a competitive player but play melee with friends for nostalgia's sake. sometimes. Decided to try wavedashing cause i knew how to do it. turns out its super useful for chase downs and spacing out opponent's approaches. Probably more ways to use it but thats what i came up with in 10 minutes of play.
