I can Naruto working well as a SRPG. Out of the many criticisms Naruto had, their whole army and abilities system the regulates off the story is legit.
Although it would require it to be a huge project to pull off without it being shit. Seeing how anyone who has the attention span to play those types of games have dropped the series, I doubt Bandai or any company would make the effort.

I've always been more of an anime person than manga, but a friend religiously told me to not ever watch Naruto for anything other than the fights that happen. I ended up reading all the way up to Shipudden, and it was really enjoyable. I know there are websites out there that tell strictly what episodes are canon and not filler

That's the thing. It wouldn't work as a Fire Emblem clone. Aside from the variety of categories the jutsu system has, there's also the fact that squads(even in wars) only go from 4. Or up to 8 on rare occasions.
Fire Emblem has a range of 8-16 playables on a map.

the naruto manga starts off great, remains good through the timeskip, but then when Sasuke takes prominence it begins to slip, becoming awful during the resolution of Pain's Invasion and plummeting even further with every subsequent chapter, culminating in one of the worst endings ever observed in a manga.
The anime dresses this up as best it can, making for some enjoyable action scenes, but then ruins it with all the filler.
Meanwhile, the Dragonball manga is solid action all the way through, with some decent humor and a plot that only keeps moving because all the characters are retarded.
The original anime butchered it and people are laboring under the impression it's anything other than garbage, but I guess Kai kinda did a better job?
Point is, neither series is really worth giving a fuck about these days, but both had excellent highlights that are worth remembering.

The thing with the games is they almost always retread the storyline. One of the best things about the series is all the crazy places that exist and that the world moves independently of the main characters. With all the fighting styles, devil fruits, and parts of the world that haven't been expanded on there's so much that could be done, but the games are almost always things like "covers arcs X to Y".

What even makes it such an upgrade compared to the sharingan, which gives you super reflexes and the ability to copy any technique or the magenkyo sharingan which can control Izanagi, Susano-o who makes you literally invincible to 99% of ninja techniques, and travel to different dimensions at will. Hell, even Danzo just had a bunch of generic eyes and it gave him the ability to cheat death as long as he wants. Like once you get the purple swirly eyes the same people who can kick your ass are exactly the same people who could've done it at any other stage, it doesn't seem like there's any real advantage to it.

For what I can gather it's a huge upgrade to sharingan/megekeyo/eternal. You pretty much get God like powers like making shadow clones that exist on another plane, summing the gedo statue, summoning meteors, forming fucking moons (probably can do planets), teleportation, preforming the infinite tsukiyomi. pretty sure it can do way more but having all of that on top of your sharingan powers would just make them more invincible.
