>there are people roaming free among us who unironically say this is not the greatest game ever made
On a scale of 1 to 10, how much does this scare you?
>>339175785
Not much, I've taken the black pill and come to terms with the fact that western civilization is lost and that no one will ever appreciate good art.
>>339175984
>art
What did he mean by this?
>>339175785
Thief is better.
Well it isn't. It's pretty good though.
>>339176017
Media created chiefly through the creative process rather than a corporate checklist.
The movement and shooting is too floaty. Quake feels miles better.
It aged like milk, let it go nigger
>opinions
My favorite game though
>>339175785
>>339175785I haven't played it
>>339175984
>video games
>art
i never played it.
did it age well?
>>339175785
>there are literally actually people that exist that haven't played Deus Ex
>they live among us and reproduce
>they even come to this very board
Why is this allowed?
I can't play it on my PC, shit keeps crashing
>>339176830
nope
>>339176661
not him, but do you mean that games can't be art or they can't even have any artistic value?
>>339177538
Both
>>339175785
it has bad RPG elements, bad stealth elements and bad shooting and mashes them all together.
it's really fun in a campy, terrible, how-far-can-i-break-this way.
>>339175785
AI was terrible. Stealth was strictly worse than Thief. Combat was bad. Gear was generic AND bad, lol throwing knives and assault rifles. Skill list looks like they didn't touch it after the brainstorming session. You spend the (arguably best) part of the game without decent gear or augmentations, then you suddenly get a load of both dumped on you in Hong Kong, which also represents a point where level design begins to significantly drop in quality. It is my most favorite game of all times, but you need to be seriously delusional to claim it had no faults.
>>339177118
Never played before
Should i play it?
Is it good?
>>339177620
I find the first debatable but i find the second utter nonsense. Do you define games with peculiar artstyles meme games or not games?
(okami, journey, unravel, katamari and shit like that is the only one off the top of my head)
>>339177538
Games can use art, but their ultimate purpose is to be entertaining. Art can have no purpose other than itself. So a game that is art would suck major ass at being a game.
>>339176830
i played it right before HR
liked it more, but it takes some time
running at sanic speed and jumping hella far is super entertaining
>>339175984
All civilization is lost my man, no need to be a weeb about it.
>>339177986
Not him, but as someone who is into books, movies and music I can say that without a shadow of a doubt, games can be and a lot certainly are artistic. Of course you have commercial shit, but that applies to every artistic medium as well.
>>339178126
>weeb
what did you mean by this?
>>339176830
It's a PC game, so yeah
there are graphics mods if you're THAT much of a pleb
>>339178004
i think you should appreciate how good art direction can separate a good game from a great one given the same gameplay formula, but i see your point of view.
>>339177821
Yes to both questions. The combats not the greatest, but it's a great RPG with good stealth, entertaining characters/story/setting, enjoyable music, great level design.
It's another generic shitty FPS that crams in edgy characters and cutscenes every 2 seconds.
>>339177986
>>339178175
They are games dumbass, not art
Games have rules and objectives while art does not
>>339178004
art is gay
>>339175785
>Deus Ex
>greatest game ever made
Chew you havisfaction a singlicious satisfact to snack that up?
>>339178261
"If it's from the east it has to be good."
>>339175785
it fucking scares me that people are nostalgic for human revolution and these same people have never played deus ex.
>>339179102
Who?
>>339178901
>Chew you havisfaction a singlicious satisfact to snack that up?
>Your appointment to FEMA should be finalized within the week, I've already discussed the matter with the senator.
What did he mean by this?
>>339178525
Yes but anything else that does not define the world in its functions is decorative. Thus can be fit for artistic purposes, and that's where art is, it can have its own stylistic rules and even objectives to convey something that the gameplay won't do as clearly as an image.
It can, but it's hard as all hell and to find the way to make the player feel the emotions the various scenarios need to evoke through gameplay is nigh impossible and the holy grail of game design. That's why art is important and has its place in games. It's not like games are absolute abstract art, and it's not like games are the absolute pinnacle of rules and rationality, abstract in another way. They are both and they're imperfect in both things, i don't get why people try to speak in absolutes about this other than baiting.
>>339176518
You're too late.
Don't believe me?
It's all in the numbers.
>>339178343
Art direction is an art in itself, yes, but the end result is not art, it is a product with a clear goal. And I'd rather it got treated that way, because then there's hope of some day extending customer protection into this market.
