It isn't a chore to play, the encounter rate is pretty high, the combat very basic and there is almost no safe zone.
Raidou 2 improve on the gameplay but it's still pretty basic (you're still mashing a button to attack but ordering your demons is easier),
the story is not abysmal, it's on par with the first.opinions

It's because actually building a party equipped to take on most of the challenges you face takes time. That and you get rejected a lot in negotiations so actually getting to the point where you're outnumbering or matching the number of demons you face in random battles can be frustrating.
