I expect it to be at least decent, though whether it is good/great us going to depend on the story, characters, amount of content, how "alive" the world feels, and whether the combat becomes deep enough.
There's no chance of it reaching VII's level of success though. Depending on the marketing push and word of mouth it might come close in terms of sales, but it's not going to have the longevity or impact that VII did. Nobody will be clamoring for a XV remake in 17 years like they are (or at least were) for VII.

I kind of don't care about final fantasy anymore. I grew up on the series but from 10 on little by little I just stopped caring about the characters, the aesthetic, and the plot of these games. Convoluted does not mean deep (and you start to see that in 7-8), and hyper realistic characters do not equal ones you identify with or care about. I'll probably by 15, regret it and never buy a game from this series again. I feel like a lot of people share this same opinion, or hope, or skepticism as well.

The only open world game that I've played that was barren (and I've played quite a few) was MGSV, and even that gets overblown because the open world in that game was just a means to an end to allow for sandbox infiltration and wasn't meant to be the typical map populated with towns and NPCs and hidden dungeons. In terms of open world RPGs Witcher, Elder Scrolls, Lightning Returns, and Xenoblade X handled them fairly well (although to varying degrees) and I see no reason XV would be any different.

Just in that image you've got a huge crashed spaceship with gigantic cargo cranes that look like battleship guns, seated on a bunch of massive crystals, in front of a cliff, in front of a river visited by fuckhuge dinosaurs, next to some weird huge coral-looking trees and vegetation, and then a grassy field in front.

I loved the game but coming across treasure sites every ten seconds and having animals populate every square foot made the world feel unnaturally full. Further you get to Galdin Quay a tropical resort.
Then you get to Lucil with it's canyons and floating mountains leading into Duscae.
