>>
>>339152227
It really isn't. The only thing it has in common with CT is the combat system.

It's a 10 hour game set only during 1 snowy overworld with literally 0 diverse locations, a fuckton of copypasted identical enemies, low budget piano-only OST and no time travel either.
>>
>>339152351
And Bravely.

Nips are finally starting to realise that they can port games to PC quickly and easily due to the new console architecture, and that a lot of 'PC master race' (not used in the shitposting way) will pick it up on Steam even if they bought it on console so they can have the definitive version.

If a port can be shunted out the door by an intern with a week of lunch breaks to work on it, and it costs almost nothing because it's digital distribution, and you're guaranteed to get plenty of sales out of it... what company WOULDN'T do it?
>>
>>339152405
Nah, at least first bravely was old school as fuck
I had so much fun with all this unbalanced jobs
>>
>>339152437
>Nips are
I'm pretty sure that it is the localisation teams doing so, I don't think many PC ports are ever released in Japan.
>>
>>339152604
It's still the Nips who have the final call on whether the port gets made, even if they outsource the actual work.
>>
>>339152227
Try reading the reviews.

Oh wait, you can't, they're in Japanese.
And even if you could, you'd just cry Japanese are review-bombing, like you faggots always do for every game you're fanboying.
>>
>>339152529
It was shit. The cast, plot and dialogue are all awful, the job system is painfully broken and in general the game is so easy it's boring even if you don't run a completely broken team or summon 999999 damage, not to mention the Bravely system making it even easier, and the tedious ending.

Making a shit quality "retro/old school"-style jrpg is absolutely an example of modern jrpg garbage.

But unfortunately there are people who eat it up. It's a FFV wannabe 20 years later that isn't even as good.
>>
>>339152802
Tbh it's still a decent game, the problem is that it's horribly overpriced considering how short and low budget it is.
Combat system is very much on par with CT, the soundtrack is really well made even if it's piano-only (the actual compositions are great). Story is engaging, but short.

Generally it suffers from the same low budget syndrome as Bravely Default and Second, but at least it doesn't make you replay the first 10 hours 8 fucking times groundhog day style.

It looks comfy. An all piano soundtrack in a world of snow with a story of tragedy. How does that not sound beautiful? It sounds like a really relaxing game to play that if it uses characterization very well will be sad by the end of the game. It sounds great.

Try OneShot when it comes out
http://store.steampowered.com/app/420530/
The Steam version is basically an extended version of a freeware game that did really well in an RPGMaker contest. Its a game about a cat named Niko that wakes up in another world who must try to make his way back home as he explores this world, only to learn that the world is dying. It doesn't have any real gameplay beyond puzzle-solving and exploration, but it makes up for it by doing neat things with its puzzles. The game interacts with your computer itself, and some puzzles must be solved by looking outside of the game itself. (not on the internet, just in obvious parts of your computer). Its pretty gud.

I'm surprised XV is still highly anticipated here, but it will for sure get turned on eventually.
>>
>>339153669
>Opinions are like assholes, in that your smells of shit.
Let say I do explain, wouldn't that ultimately be another opinion and wouldn't you discard it all the same? Also, if we are going by that logic, yours would also be an opinion too, so why should we also listen to it? In fact, why post at all?

There are however objective standards to media, even if you are comparing it to another's work.

>>339153737
Thread seems fine so far, you are just mad that new SE games aren't up to standards with what they produced in the past. No one is saying this game is horrible, but that it doesn't live up to CT.

Square Enix makes nothing but good games. (ignoring some of its iOS games like All the Bravest of course) I enjoyed the XIII trilogy. I was able to put up with the flaws of Drakengard 3. So there's no way in fuck I wouldn't be anticipating this

Niche japanese games being ported/released on steam is the trend of the last couple of years at least. You never hear about them because they're usually shit, even if you're a weeb.

What, you have never been in a FFXV thread have you? It's bloodlust. It's always Real time vs Turn based fags, What FF is and isn't fags, the ones that prefer the old FFXV style vs the ones that love the new style of the game, the doomsayers, and /v/'s business CEOs arguing whether this title will kill SE or not.

I wouldn't call it deep; it doesn't have any big philosophical message its trying to push nor is it even trying to be "smart".
And isn't that in the name of the game? Didn't it repeatedly tell you "You only have one shot"? It wanted you to make a decision and stick with it. Although if it means anything, the Steam version will be replayable from what I hear.

I can understand not liking it though. It is really simple as a game and while I think it fits the point of the game, it is annoying not being able to replay the game when looking at it as a something you want to experience all the content of.

Yet you hear about Western shit games all the time and some of them are even top of the charts.
>>
>>339154150
I'm not objecting to your opinion, I'm objecting to the fact you believe it deserves credibility without explanation, I'm not discarding that its average, I'm discarding that its aberage because you say so.

You say if we're going by that logic, but you completely failed to understand my logic, I don't hold an opinion about this game so your entire argument is null and void, I also have no interest in media reviews. But you can't just reply to something "its average" and act like you hold any kind of sway, your post becomes filler that people just have to waste time to scroll over at worst, and 'epik meemz" at best.

So no, I don't care about reviews, and I'm asking you why the game is average to you. Feel free to answer instead of the generic "you'd just hate it anyway" copout that shows you have no basis to your argument. This is still deflection, if you had an actual reason or opinion you'd say it, you wouldn't say everything but the thing you were asked to say.

I'm assuming you're not 12 any more, nobody on the internet is your mommy and daddy, so nobody has an obligation to accept your opinions without any form of explanation.

What the fuck. How can a jRPG be so short? Even first-playthrough Neps are longer than 14 hours.
>>
>>339154037
XV threads are always full of shitposters. Probably the most autistic ones on /v/. It's like console war shit but all directed at one game.
>>
>>339154520
It had good ideas for the story but the whole premise is not something that fits with videogames, especially story driven ones. You wanna know what happens, you try to tackle a game with your logic and usually when your choices matter you either go with what you think is best and that differs for each person. That's exactly why you'll probably not get the desired result, you don't have the same mind as the dev. So making it be a one time thing is just a bad concept from the beginning. You wanted to get the best out of it but it usually doesn't work out and the game just gives you the middle finger when you wanna try again.

You are right, sometimes however people just want a quick and dirty no-nonsense response to how a game is. This does bring trouble because people of the wrong caliber that doesn't objectively analyze or enjoy media can give you the wrong impression and feedback due to biases.

If you are still interested in how the game is, I already posted a review which basically was able to put in better words what I thought about the game.

Well, it has seven chapters, with each chapter being only about 2 hours long at most. There is no grinding or big adventure, just a short story to tell for each character that intertwines all the stories together.
Its pretty fantastic and is a pretty strong example of a really good really short JRPG.

Some retards think it's somehow related to Chrono Trigger.

It's a rather new marketing gimmick: you don't even announce somehting as a spiritual successor, but just drop a recognizable feature that means nothing (here it's the x-strike from Chrono Trigger—seriously, that's it) and nostalgiafags will get excited on their own. You don't even have to promise anything.

I thought the person who posted Live A Live was trying to excuse I Am Setsuna's pathetic playtime by posting an example of a well-regarded short game, while ignoring the fact that the well-regarded game is 20 years older.

The fact that there were long jrpgs 20 years ago just makes Setsuna even more of a disappointment. Unless it turns out to be an example of well-crafted storytelling like LAL, but it seems like a pretty soulless nostalgia cash-in.

I posted it and was using it as an example that a JRPG can be really short and really good. I don't really think when a game came out really matters in that regard since even back then it was short. Quality, not quantity and all that. No telling if I Am Setsuna is something that can meet that level of quality of course.

Just like CT.

>The characters are boring and have no character development at all
>it's silent self-insert MC man with no development
>it's a defective killer robot who likes and acts like humans, whose "development" consists of just restating this premise
>it's the tom girl princess with daddy issues over being a tom girl princess, whose entire "development" is just the same drama over and over until her dad is suddenly cool with it at the end
>it's Ayla and Lucca, the afterthought characters

So pretty much like CT. Only Magus and Frog have any noteworthy development.
