Sup /v/? I'm playing Morrowind for the first time in several years and I have pic related as my character. I think I'm going to make a few minor tweaks but what do you think? I don't have any class skills for endurance or speed. Should I? Also should I be using block and a shield or are two handed weapons better? I can't remember.

Pls r8

Your only offensive option seems to be blunt weapon level 15.
I'd say it'd make for an.. interesting build?

It's ok to do that because you get more levels out of it and you don't need weapon skill in the early game desu

I'm a Telvanni man myself. They put a lot of care into making the houses unique though, and I think they did a great job, so I don't think there's a wrong answer to this question.

>>339098794
I take it you think that's bad? I like being able to get into shit, obviously, and it's not the fastest skill to raise from a low level, but talk to me.
>>
I hope in the next TES we get High Rock for some interseting politics and houses like Morrowind
>>
>>339098964
I do think its a bad idea. but making weird build decisions is what makes morrowind fun.

Security is piss easy to use at lower levels, then you get spell/enchantment unlocks that make security redundant. that spot could easily be replaced with a skill that would be helpful to you end game.
>>
>>339099056
I agree, High Rock would be really fun. I would be concerned that they'd make the physical environment a little boring, but that just depends on the team.

That looks like a hard character for someone who plays the game for the first time ever but maybe you'll do fine
>>
I've never been able to get into Morrowind because of the combat. What kind of build do I need to easy-mode it so I can concentrate on story?
>>
>>339099296
There were a surge of shitposting threads against the game, which spawned a resurgence of positive threads for the game, and so on and so on. And now it's just Morrowind thread up all the time, blame the shitposters ramping up threads to 500 replies arguing about combat.
>>
>>339099640
combat is one of the best thing about morrowind so if you don't like it then you might as well not play
>>
>>339098480
Do whatever you want really.
As long as you remember to not spam attack with no fatigue and that you need to actually know how to use a weapon to hit with it you'll do fine.
For example, don't try to kill mudcrabs with a longsword if you're proficient in spears.

It's my first time in several years, not first time ever. I've beaten the shit out of this game, it's just been a very long time.

>>339099640
It isn't supposed to be an action game but I guess just pick long blades and heavy armor as majors and use a two handed sword?
>>
>>339099640
early on is really frustrating so consider getting a weapon as a major skill, but it's not good in the long con
>>
>>339099640

You can cheese it with ANY weapon as long as you stack the points right.
>>
>>339099743
lol

Oh wait you're serious
>>
>>339099836
Put Blunt in Major instead of minor.
>>
>>339099836
all you need to do is pick the right skill? If you're gonna fight with long swords then pick a race that has the best starting points for long sword and then add longsword as main skill, and that's literally fucking it.
>>
>>339099296
I see two others.
>>
>>339099865
I know it's not, that's why I'm looking for a way to easy-mode the action parts. Like would magic be more effective?
>>339099884
Would it be more worth it to get destruction or something?
>>
>>339100035
Oh yeah and pick agility and strength (if melee)
>>
>>339099962
OP here. That other fag isn't me. He didn't post his specs. But I'll still reply and say that I always remember thinking melee as a major was unnecessary and that it would get plenty of practice as a minor skill. I liked to put the harder ones to raise as majors for the head start in skill points, and then other ones that were essential but easy to raise as minors. That doesn't necessarily mean it's "the best way" or anything, but that was my thought process back in the day.
>>
I'm pretty sure that should be Lesbomancer.
>>
>>339100102
As I said in the OP I haven't played in several years but I remember destruction being pretty shitty. It might get good at higher levels but it definitely isn't a good way to kill shit as a new character.
>>

Your logic is correct.

Is /v/ hardcore enough to take spears and medium armor as major skills like I am?

Why don't more games have spears
>>
>>339100597
I actually did that. Should have put them in minor desu
>>
>>339100597
When I played the game on Xbox way back in the day I was all about spears and crossbows.
>>
>>339100503
A powerful weapon really is pretty good, just make your weapon a major skill like the other dude said and if you can be a bit patient at first, you'll find yourself hitting much more before too long. Also, pick a race that gets +10 to whichever weapon you choose. Imperials get +10 to long blades, Nords get +10 to axes and blunts, and Redguards get +15 to long blades. Dunmer also get +10 to short blades but for what you want, I think you just basically want huge hits.
>>
>>339100102
>Would it be more worth it to get destruction or something?

That'd be redundant.

You said to main a weapon skill for combat damage, why also spend time leveling up a skill which just provides combat damage?

What would help is Restoration for healing, and buffs, Illusion for control, and Enchant for making good combat gear.

You could do Destruction for solely ranged combat, but that'd fight for Magicka Points with your other spells, and there's always Marksman.
>>
Why take security when you can just learn Open spells?
>>
>>339100597

I was a spear chucking Argonian and proud of it
>>
>>339101025
Yeah I'm starting to agree that I should probably dump that, or at the least I'll definitely move it to minor. I sure will hate having to pass up early chests but I don't want to be short sighted.

This guy knows what he's talking about
>>
>>339099379
Exactly, personalty I have never used security as a skill in any elder scrolls game.

Oblivion is the strongest example of this, since security isn't rng fed it's just player skill. then you get the skeleton key at lvl 7 and you never break lockpicks again making the skill absolutely pointless.

But yeah, wither stick to alteration for lockpicking, security skill in Morrowind is only useful for removing traps from chests.
>>
>>339100290
While I agree with you in theory, Security is not something that I think warrants a primary skill, so at the very least I would swap that with blunt.

In fact, since you have Alteration as a primary skill I would argue Security should be dropped entirely. You can just cast your way past all the locks.

Mercantile is generally so fucking slow to level up that putting it as either a major or minor skill is pretty much only for the purposes of stunting your growth.

Depends on your character, innit. If you want to be an imperial stooge (or are playing something like a non-dunmer), then House Hlaalu is pretty fitting. House Telvanni on the other hand are obviously the house of choice if you want to be an eccentric shroom-house wizard, also a bit racist and kinda into slavery. House Redoran on the other hand are the go-to house for any warrior-type person (dunmer especially) whose stance on the empire isn't necessarily hostile, but suspicious and motivated more by tradition and dunmer-specific pragmatism.

redoran best house

Start with the following:

Major skills:
Any weapon type
Medium or Heavy armor
Athletics
Armorer
Security

Minor skills:
Block (if you will use a shield - not required)
4xAnything

Birthsign:
Lady

Special stats:
Any of Str/Agi/End

Then just use the weapon+armor that matches you major skills and you shouldn't have too much difficulty. By the time you hit level 4 or so you should be pretty much smooth sailing for the rest of the game.

You're not alone, man. Spears are such great weapons that more often than not are either ignored completely or pushed aside in favour of classic crowd pleasers like double-headed axes and swords. Feels like spears would totally be a dunmer thing, whatwith them being pretty practical and using what's at hand.

Indoril armour is the set worn by the Ordinators in Vivec City. It's a really good set but sadly impossible to wear in any area where there are ordinators since they'll fuck you up for being an impersonator.

Pic very related.

Hey guys, never played Morrowind before but these threads really make me want to try. Build-wise, I think I've picked up some good tips on how to make a character but I have heard very mixed things about whether first time players should be playing vanilla, with mods, unofficial patches, ports, etc. Since there seem to be a huge variety of options, what would you all recommend? Is there any sort of definitive list that could help me? Googling beginner's guides only showed build/play tips for me. Thanks.

For a first playthrough, I'd recommend Morrowind Code Patch and Morrowind Graphics extender (but only for HD resolution and some AA)
>>
>>339101403
I'm more hyped about OpenMW. It's a complete port of Morrowind to an open source engine that's going to open up for proper modding without having to rely on complicated script workarounds. It's pretty ridiculous what kind of things OpenMW makes possible.
>>
I was never able to get into Morrowind.

I had to mod it for an eternity to get a passable draw distance and movement speed. And even once I did that, the dice roll combat regularly fucked me over, and much of the world seemed identical.

What I saw of the writing was beautiful, but I was bored out of my mind with the gameplay long before making any real progress in the story. Is this one of those games that requires playing it closer to its release to complete?
>>
I THINK YOU'RE A THEIFE!

Install just a few mods that dont change the vanilla experience

>Code Patch

You can also install MGSO if you want good graphics
>>
>>339103094
I actually only touched upon Morrowind briefly in its Xbox incarnation back in 2005 at a friend's house, then I didn't even touch it until 2014 after having played both Oblivion and Skyrim. Morrowind remains my favourite; I think it's mainly a matter of being in the right mindset. You have to remember that Morrowind was made at a very awkward time; this was right after the real-time-with-pause RPGs had stopped being popular but before the action-RPG genre had risen anywhere near the top. The game's a bit like the bastard child of the previously mentioned genres.

Code Patch you just download and follow instructions or it comes with MGSO

Delayed brotherhood attack is on nexusmods, you put the .esp or .esm file into "Data Files" folder in your Morrowind folder and then open the launcher, go to Data Files and check the box next to the mod.

Madd Leveler
http://www.lonebullet.com/mods/download-madd-leveler-v10b-elder-scrolls-iii-morrowind-mod-free-43252.htm

Open the folder with madd leveler, and ONLY pick the Cap Remover file

And do the same thing, put it in "Data Files" Folder and check the box in launcher.

That's all you have to do for these mod, they are the simplest mods that don't require anything else, if you want other mods that are more advanced then that's a fuck ton of work and using a lot of different programs

Dont go into magic then. Its too complex to learn and not worth it if you just want to go through the story.

Id go with something like this:

Dark Elf
Lady Birthsign
Stealth Specialization

Favored Atributes
Luck
Endurance

Major Skills
Light Armor
Short Blade
Marksman
Block
Security

Minor Skills
Acrobatics
Sneak
Speechcraft
Mysticism
Alchemy
Medium armor is not worth it because Light armor provides more defense.

Heavy armor is good ,but its too heavy and makes you move slower.

Thats why you should go with Light Armor.

Short Blade levels up fast if you pick Stealth specialty and the unique weapon Kneeing you get during the main quest is a short blade.

Marksman is good if you are not going to use magic for ranged attacks.
With proper weapons you can one shot almost anything.

Block is a must for melee characters.

Securiry is needed since you will rely on lockpicks to open locked doors and disable traps.

Acrobatics is used to level up fast by jumping all the time and gives you a boost to str when you level.

Mysticism is used for the mark / recall spells mainly wich are useful during the main quest.

Alchemy is there jsut in case you want to expand to other skills, its a good way to be able to rush your skills by lowering them to 0 temporarily and training them in trainers for 1 gold.
When you level up just add points to str, agi and luck.

If I'm a Dunmer with a lot of magic skills, I need to pick a sign that increases magicka don't I? I normally like the Lady...
>>
>>339108928
Nah

Magic is pretty when you start out and when it becomes useful you can just boost magicka with potions you make from alchemy.

The Lady is the best Birthsign by far since it gives you a 25 Endurance boost which affects your starting health and health gained per level which is pretty important when you start and you have to rely on melee combat.
