They portray the characters "seriously," only to have them run around a civilian museum shooting bullets everywhere and being wacky. TF2 was a carefully and loving created universe that wasn't too wacky but never took itself seriously, at least until Valve realised after all the class updates they had nothing left and went full jew. The media reflected the ridiculous nature of two colour switched made up of clones fighting each other vaguely industrial sites.
