Why the fuck would you not augment yourself? It literally makes you better
>>
Expensive. And did you miss the part of the trailer where an aug exploit got 9 million people killed?
>>

If you're not rich then enjoy getting shitty black market jobs that your body will reject in a few months because you can't afford the medication needed to prevent rejection

i dont need augmentation when i have Overwatch
>>
>>339078098
but augmentation would probably make you better at overwatch
>>
>>339077504
Because it doesn't make us human. However, I have nothing against biological engineering.

Ìf you know anything about technology the most important thing should be that people that can abuse it, will.

Okay Dr. Frankenstein.

Meattech is low maintenance by comparison, all you have to do is put food and water in your face hole every now and again at it largely looks after itself. Robotics on the other hand require (expensive) specialist attention to ensure they're maintained, and if you don't want to look like a cyber-hillbilly in front of your peers you'd better be prepared to spend more money on upgrading your augments from time to time to stay current. Augments are suitable for high-rollers only, basically, or if your company takes care of them for you.
>>
it's actually about ethics in augmentation

Did you not see the new mechanical apartheid trailer? They rounded all the augmented people and put them in internment camps.

I'd do it though, might be cool

I'd love to, but

Because of corporation's innate greed?
I doubt you want to have half of your body held hostage by an always online DRM.

Better at what? What in my day to day life is so important that I need to spend a bunch of money on robot arms and anti-rejection drugs to do it more efficiently?

Is it my job? Am I getting augmented just to do my day job better or, more likely, just to stay in the market? Is it a hobby? Maybe there's something I really used to enjoy doing but am now incapable of doing without metal parts? Am I some kind of min-maxing faggot who just wants to be "better" for no other reason than to be "better"?

Needing Neuropozyne would suck.

DUDE PAY A SHIT TON OF MONEY TO REPLACE YOUR BODY WITH HARDWARE THAT WILL BE OBSOLETE IN 6 MONTHS LMAO
>>
Nah
>>
>>339085130
The cure for phantom limb is haptic feedback. Modern prosthesis bypass the phantom by giving you a limb with feeling.

All the other points are fair enough for why you'd not want to augment, but it doesn't describe why augmented people would be pariahs any more than it shows them as sympathetic.
>>
>>339085954
People hate other people that are different. And people who have money. And people who made ridiculous lifestyle decisions based on what's "in".

Voluntary augmentation fits all of those

Neuropazine addiction
Only rich fags can afford it

the one point in the game where they flip the kill switch and everyone with augs turns into zombies
>>
>>339077504
Because surgery is scary.
>>
>>339077504
Because augments are shitty.

You're looking at it from the perspective of Adam Jensen because he's the player character but he's also probably the best augmented man in the world. He's got top-spec military grade augs and no need for Neuropozyne, and he got it all for free.

Meanwhile, Joe Blow who gets augmented has to pay for all his shit and probably ends up settling with augments that, at best, are roughly as good as whatever fleshy bit they're replacing, with maybe one of two actual enhancements like a CASIE, and a crippling drug addiction to go with them. Not to mention the fact that if he got anything beyond a CASIE or whatever those pilot implants that Malik has installed he now has very visible robotic parts, which, setting aside the whole actual racism thing, some people are just going to be creeped out by. Especially if he gets some of the lower end ones that you see on people like the Harvesters that bare only a passing resemblance to the original human part.

So yeah, it worked out great for Adam Jensen, and if you've been injured having ugly robot arms is a hell of lot better than having no arms, but if all your shit works and you aren't a billionaire you're basically downgrading.
>>
Gonna suck when retard fundies try to hold this kind of shit back irl. If you're that terrified of change fuck off and live in a cabin in the woods or go live with the amish.

>read emails in TYM tower
>TYM, the largest aug manufacturer in the world, deliberately uses substandard and inferior materials that will break more frequently

That's the part that's most realistic. Especially as they become more and more widespread. Availability goes up, total quality goes down.

Imagine breaking a limb because it was made out of crap and having to pay for an equally shoddy replacement. Or pay even more for one not made by rip off merchants. What a bright future that would be
