First of all, price. The XBONE came with Kinect originally and was about $100 more expensive than the PS4 at launch. I think that helped PS4 a lot.
Secondly, games. Sony's 2013 E3 was basically: "games first, other shit later"
Add to that, that although Xbox 360 clearly won last gen most of the best exclusives were still on Playstation which really helped.
Also, when Sony announced they would support used games and allow the console to play games without ever needing to go online, that was the final nail in the coffin.
XBONE's launch was a complete fuck up in comparison. They forced early adopters to buy the Kinect, and made sure the console wouldn't work without it plugged in.
They spent their E3 talking about shit the console could do, which was only relevant to the USA, and wouldn't be available anywhere else in the world.
They spent an EON talking about the social aspect, and briefly touched on the fact that the console could play games.
The sad thing is what this has lead to. All the Xbox kids of last gen are now on PS4, and the online is suffering because of it

I own both an Xbone and a PS4. PS4 sales are almost always better than Xbone sales and just as frequent, if not more so. The "free" games I get every month tend to be much better on the PS4 too.
Also PS4s customer support is top tier. I bought a game, it went on sale like 3 days later at half price. They didn't have to but they refunded me the difference. Something Microsoft have in the past refused to do for me.

The game I wanted to play the most among the launch titles (Admittedly, delayed) was Destiny, my decision was swayed purely by featureset. I totally would have leaned towards Xbox (even with Bonus destiny content on PS4) But really got turned off with the whole "Oh Kinnect is mandatory its too integrated you can't trade games you must always be online we can't change it is integral to the main system what you don't wanna buy it? Oh well y-you don't n-need a-all that stuff, we... we were j-just joking... heh... heh..."
