How is Drakengard 1 gameplay wise? I want to get into it, but a friend of mine who loves the series described the gameplay as awful and said I shouldn't force myself through it. Mind, he only said that about Drakengard 1.
>>
he's right

the same applies to all of them
>>
He's right, the gameplay is terrible. Absolute shit. You play it more for the experience. The story, the absolutely fucked up characters that do horrendous things, and the wierd as fuck plot twist that eventually leads into Nier.

Never, ever play Drakengard for the gameplay.
>>
Does anyone have that post about how Drakengard is game that shouldn't exist?
>>
The gameplay is mindnumbingly awful and the repetitive music tracks will mesh with the gameplay to drive you insane as you try to get all the endings.

It's a special experience, you could say.
>>
The gameplay is dreadful, I've never gotten bored of a combat system so quickly in my life. Classic Final Fantasy combat where you just pick shit from menus was better.

It's literally a game you play for everything but the gameplay, which is really weird.
>>
The gameplay in Drakengard is down right terrible. It's definitely worth the experience
>>
>>339067085
He's only said that Drakengard 1 was so bad that I shouldn't play it. The others he said, are still bad, but not unbearably so.

>>339067087
>>339067230
If I can put up with Nier's gameplay, will I be able to get through Drakengard?
>>
>>339066991
If you take Dynasty Warriors gameplay, make it worse, and then add in a useless dragon mount, then that's the regular gameplay.
There's also missions where you have to fly around as the dragon shooting down stuff and that is hell.
>>
Drakengard as a whole plays like shit for the most part. Part of the suffering though that everyone should endure. Nier friends get a pass for watching the LP of the first since it emulates like shit and not everyone has a PS2
>>
>>339067475
>If I can put up with Nier's gameplay, will I be able to get through Drakengard?

You can try, but there's no real guarantee. Drakengard is just a really special kind of horrible, there's no real way to describe it. As you're grinding shitty maps with shitty textures and draw distances with repetitive and bland button mashing animations and awful looped music that grates on the ears, you realize that you're really doing it just so the game can fuck you over in every single ending without the slightest chance of redemption.

It's...something.
>>
Judging from gameplay videos, Drakengard 3 looks a lot better in its presentation. Is the combat improved from the previous installments?
>>
>>339067475
Drakegard 1 is a bad musou clone (like dynasty warriors) with some dragon flying thrown in. The ground combat is slow and clunky, camera is always fighting against you and the minimap is incomprehensible.

The areal missions and missions where you can use your dragon are actually decent, but not good.

Story is terribly written, but it is all kinds of fucked up. Simply put the game is an experience. I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone but I am glad I played through it and not just watched the cutscenes or a letsplay on youtube.

Nier's gameplay is a lot faster, is way more polished and is enjoyable as long as you dont grind for anything.

Just ground combat, though the frame rate can have some nasty drops.

Dragon stuff felt worse for the most part, except when your fighting some of the Watchers/angels since you have much more freedom. Unfortunately most of the angels are boring as hell, too.
>>
Not the OP, but I wanted to get Nier: Automata when it comes out. I'll get Nier, but the responses to this thread make me reluctant to get into Drakenguard. 3's combat looks okay, dunno about 2. Can I just watch an LP of 1 and skip to the others? Is 2 at least tolerable?
>>
>>339068051
Like I said, I want to get into it and I don't want to be a fag who just watches an LP, but I don't have a ps2, and if it emulates like shit like >>339067550
says, I might be shit out of luck.
>>
>>339068257
Different guy here, Drakengard emulated pretty well for me personally. What I can't figure out is how my PC emulates Drakengard, God Hand, DMC3 and Shinobi flawlessly, but Soul Calibur 3 makes it shit itself.

Ground combat is improved a lot, but still lacks polish. You constantly hit invisible walls, clip through things and the game looks a bit jaggy. That aside I enjoyed it a lot more than D1.

You no longer have missions where you can use your dragon. Missions are ether areal or ground.
Unlike drakengard 1 its more of a corridor hack and slash like dmc. Its also a lot shorter than 1, each chapter only has 5-6 verses and the first route ends in 5 chapters.

The music is great though, best thing about the game.

>>339068257
I emulated it on a toaster, it ran a bit slow at times but was definitely playable.
>>
>>339066991
It's clunky and more than a little grind-y, but the rest of the game should be compelling enough to keep you playing.
>>
>>339068227
Drakengard 2 is probably the worst of all games. Not only gameplay is awful, but it also does not have good story.

Drakengard 3 would be mediocre slasher if it wasn't for literally 5 fps gameplay.
>>
OP here, I'm gonna emulate it. Wish me luck. I'll let you know if and when I clear it.

Drakengard 1 is pretty terrible, every chapter is "kill the highlighted enemies then get to the waypoint to continue". You have one attack string and a magic attack.
Drakengard 2 is a little better, it has the beginnings of a combo system and some actual environmental puzzles though they're usually little more than "hit the crystal to open a door"
Haven't played 3

>>
I played it as a kid and thought it was good but I replayed it a few years ago and it is pretty shit. The gameplay is basically a worse DW with no allies and getting good weapons is a total and complete grindfest. The soundtrack is also laughably bad, I'm pretty sure every track is the same 15 seconds on loop. The world map is literally europe turned upside down - did they think nobody would notice that lazy shit?

That being said, I really enjoyed the dragon mount, aerial battles, the story (ESPECIALLY some of the extra endings), and the characters. If you're going to play it make sure you pack headphones. It shouldnt take very long but if you want the final hidden ending you have to collect ALL the weapons which is mind numbingly shitty.

Some of the people in project played and liked Nier, but it wasnt the reason for the sequel. Square needed a game developed by platinum it could have been any title ever but then square decided to give Nier a shot, likely because one of Taro's friends saw an opportunity and took it. Both parties were happy with this decision.
In one interview Taro confessed that the best thing about this collaboration is that he and Kamiya became drinking buddies.

But that was like maybe 30 minutes of awesome in exchange for hours upon hours of one of the dumbest, most insufferable protagonists and the holy-shit-this-is-dumb story.

Why the hell are people saying that Drakengard is horrible

I started playing Drakengard 1 today for the first time today. After an hour... I'm not that impressed. The aerial fighting isn't as good as I supposed it to be (Panzer Dragoon) and the melee was horrid until I leveled up my weapon for longer combos. Also the music is horrible. Who said it's good is either lying or it picks up later. Also the game looks like a PS1 game, especially the talking scenes where the game becomes zoomed in WC3 tier.
Overall not impressed but the story SHOULD save it, I just have to play some more.

1200 kills for final level on most grindy weapons

By the way is there way to bump up kills with weapon using cheat engine or something?
I can easily increase kill themself but they are fucking useless when they don't upgrade weapons
>>
>>339074814
In order to get the final ending you must get each of the 65 weapons. Most of them are scattered on story missions and require you to ful fill a condition before they appear. If you use a guide (which you should, since game gives you no hints on how to get them) getting about 40 of these weapons should be relatively painless.

The last 25 require you to complete additional missions some. The most painful one was the timed areal mission where you couldn't lose more than 50% of your HP, couldnt use your magic attacks and must complete the mission in less than 4 minutes. There was only a few missions as cruel as this, but those were bullshit.
>>
>>339075525
