Same. They really should have fixed this, it's so stupid to trigger the Brotherhood questline with killing the Gray Prince.
>>
>>339069296
The unofficial patch fixes it so killing him doesn't count as murder, either way I never bother doing that arena side quest because the little skill bonuses from the Grey Prince's training isn't worth it and he gives a real fight when you challenge him.
>>
>>339070074
I remember I did a playthrough where I intended to fight him for real, but for some reason I thought there was an option to lie to him about his past even after you raid Crowhaven. But no, you just automatically hand over the journal. I don't think I've ever fought him for real.

One thing I really liked about Morrowind, was that if you killed someone. And no one saw you commit the act, not even the victim. Then the kill was never registered to your character.

But in Oblivion and Skyrim, you have this all see-ing eye over you. And no matter how skilled you are, you wake up and it turns out that people know it was you anyway.
>>
>>339070807
In oblivion, if you're stealthy about it, you'll never get time for it, its just recorded on your stats, the guards wont magically know that you killed someone. And Skyrim helps a lot with the local bounties.
>>
>>339058585

Some dude sleeping in a shack.
>>
>>339071594
The last time I played Oblivion, you couldn't kill a person inside of a building because guards from halfway across the city would immediately become alerted.
>>
>>339071419
>>339071559
Who is recording it? Are you? No one else could have done it no one else even knows you did it. Why would you ever record your own murders though? That's ridiculous.

It was a neat thing to be able to do morally bad acts in Morrowind while still appearing as a goody-two-shoes character. Even in the face of the gods. Provided you were skilled enough to hide it from everyone.

It truly made you feel like an assassin. Not like in the later games where the brotherhood finds you anyway.
>>
>>339071931
No one's recording it you stupid fuck, it isn't part of the lore, it's an external part of the game. Do you need to rationalize the credits and the pause menu into the fucking gameworld too?
>>
>>339071931
>Who is recording it?
The game
>>
>>339071854
It can make sense. Considering that the game takes in somewhat of a medieval age, and since no house back then was sound proof, it can happen, to housings such as the ones in Bravil or something similar. Unless you one-shot your victim and cause no noise.

It's not a list of what the gubmint knows of you
It's a list of how many people you killed in the game, from an out-of-game perspective.

There's your context.
>>
>>339072896
>from an out-of-game perspective
An out of game perspective can't have an in-game context. At the very least not without the game breaking the fourth wall and acknowledging it.

But you're right it is an out-of-game perspective. And I am just saying that's a shame. It would have been better if they had found a way to contextualize it within the confounds of the game itself.
>>
>>339059871
Pretty sure I did exactly this as well. If not the priory, it was the fight outside Kvatch before you enter the oblivion gate
>>
>>339072295
So you're telling me that if you chose to go on a genocidal rampage across Vvardenfell, but all of your murders were sneak attacks, it would be more immersive for the game to say that you committed no murders at all?
>>
>>339073121
Fair enough mate but you don't get to complain about the stats page doing it's ACTUAL job just because it no longer allows for your contextualizing
>>
>>339073169
Yes.
>>
>>339073121
>An out of game perspective can't have an in-game context
Yes, which is why it doesn't have that
It's a statistics thing in a game menu, not an in-game thing
>>
>>339073121
>>339072295
The stats are in your journal. If you need context, just assume your character is keeping a private score of their kills.

For the same reason some people hate it: It used a classic (or "generic", if you're feeling uncharitable) high fantasy environment instead of the more exotic environments of Morrowind or, to a lesser extent, Skyrim. All of Skyrim's quests were bad. I can't think of one that I really enjoyed. Meanwhile Oblivion had stuff like the magic painting, the island where rich people pay to hunt people, the mage trapped in his magic dreamworld, and Lord Rugdumph.
>>
I just installed this faggot
http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/45169/?
and what I assume was supposed to be his tail is randomly either missing or distorting and stretching all over the place. Nothing else in the game is affected. It's not an issue with custom bodies, the tail seems to be attached to the armor but it doesn't seem to be an armor replacer problem either. All the files are where they're supposed go. Nothing in the load order looks like it would affect it. What else can go wrong?
>>
>>339082229
>the magic painting, the island where rich people pay to hunt people, the mage trapped in his magic dreamworld

These were all linear and nothing special. The island one was just a dungeon crawl the other two at least had interesting environments different than any other part of the game. Oblivion just some good unique stories around their quests unlike Skyrim which didnt even try.

The TES modding community seems to largely ignore quests in general. Apparently the Construction Set/Creation Kit makes creating quests a bigger pain in the ass than it should be.

yes, you probably have a vagina or are vegan or something
>>
>>339084749
That's not true. There are loads of quest mods but they add new quests not editing existing quests.

I think it's because of the way modders treat the game. They just treat it as just a big sandbox open world and adding to the world and creating their own quests.

No, my dad did that when he showed my the game back in '06. Now that I'm an adult I realize how immersive it can be to actually act like a human in game. Roleplaying as a murderer is a different story of course, but I assume you mean just not going around killing everything in sight.

There's just something about people going nuts enough to write like that in a book.

That entire town of weirdoes that I can't remember anymore. One of them pissed me off and I killed him, then everyone else in the town started attacking me. Killed them all, slept on their houses, then you know who showed up.

All Oblivion needed was the context of each quest. Makes it unique and more memorable, hell of a lot more than 30 or so Skyrim quests which were "kill the Draugr to get the artifact"

The guy with the infinite gold glitch in the Imperial City. I'd kill him, get as much gold as I could be bothered to farm, and then do bow fuckery in the streets with important items to dupe them. It's weird how the pattern is still etched in to my memory after all these years.

Why are shitty quests the one things modders can't fix?
Is making quests in Skyrim's engine that much of a cluster fuck?

>I gotta say, the dialogue from Oblivion seems better than Skyrim. Just something about the way they talk.
I think it's that quest givers tend to sound like they actually care about the things they're sending you on quests for. This probably has a lot to do with the fact that the quests are fully hand-crafted, so they had to actually write stories for them instead of just having the NPC say "Some bandits stole some ring I kind of like. It's in this randomly-chosen bandit cave, guarded by nameless bandits. Go get it. Or don't."

I don't remember his name, but I had a mod that put a German Shepherd with really awesome stats in his house so I had my elfslut companion repeatedly have sex with the dog so it would join my party.

I guess we stayed in there too long because eventually he got angry and aggroed, causing the dog to kill him. Or maybe taking the dog counted as stealing? I don't know.

Point is, dude got mauled to death by a horny canine.
