Anyone else got the feeling that between the marketing (trailers, Twitter, podcasts, merchandising, and game presence Kojima had fallen in love with a white woman for the first time and needed to show his love to the world?
It's honestly very creepy. I didn't mind the Otacon love stuff in the past since it was always unintationally hilarious, this is just straight up creepy.
I guess they needed a sniper companion because it would be weird to have a human like AI walking around with the player the whole time. That also might have been harder to program.

Kojima wanted to push taboos left and right, female nudity is still considered a mortal sin in the eyes of the pasty pudgy beta males that make up game developers nowadays. Quiet was originally supposed to be fully nude, and Kojima wanted to push this with the B&B Corps in MGS4 as well.
unfortunately that didn't happen so they settled on having her dress in something ridiculously slutty. next best thing, right?

She's your only human buddy and the only major character in the game that Snake interacts with who isn't just using him to serve their own agenda.
She subjects herself to Ocelot's torture and the harassment of motherbase just for the chance to fight along side you, and it makes her departure hurt all the more.
Quiet is literally the dumbest character in the franchise next to Skullface

She's the only connection Venom has to the world, the only real person liking him for who he is, not for him being BB's copy. When she dies, so does Venom, only BB is left. She adds to the tragedy in a great way in my opinion.

it had almost fucking nothing to do with MGS2 and you could've easily made MGS4 without that game in fact it'd make it better.
MGS3 had a good contained plot and i thought MGS5 had a decent enough plot. but as part of the MGS overall story? they're fucking pointless. we still don't know why big boss went bad and in fact after MGS5 its almost like he didn't go bad.
kojima is a hack of a writer, i've known this since MGS2 its pretty obvious he doesn't want to make big boss anything but a hero who dindu nuffin wrong which ultimately diminishes the overall story

i think it was also to give players new to the series an idea of how powerful the legend of Big Boss is. fans already have seen it with Ocelot but people new to the franchise really have no idea.

MGS3 explained perfectly well why big boss went bad. He felt his country betrayed him and his waifu. Its the games following that fucked that all up.

Big Boss wanted to create a world where soldiers could fight for whatever they believe in and not just be cast aside when politically convenient. ("the times" Kaz and BB talk about at the end of PW, Skull Face also mentions this was ultimately the reason The Boss was killed)
Big Boss became a villain when he betrayed those ideals and became consumed by revenge against Cipher. he goes from wanting to help soldiers to seeing them as tools in his longterm goal of endless war.
