The game world is a bit like in demon's souls - the world is shattered in pieces, and you with the help of a Primordial Portal use special items to link the portal to the piece of the world. Then you can teleport to that new piece of the world and find there new items, enemies and NPCs.
You can use the items to create different worlds with catalysts. Like, the game's areas are your home ranch, and you travel to different townships, mines and canyons to rescue people from the monsters that have emerged because of an eclipse or something. You bring people back to your ranch and they become vendors or add to your livestock with their own cows or animals to generate supplies and materials.
However as the game goes on you start seeing lights in the sky and sometimes when you return to the ranch NPCs start disappearing one by one. You slowly lose all your vendors except for this one dude who was there since the start of the game, an incredibly cheerful, grinning man in a suit. Then when you next return after clearing the penultimate dungeon and go see him, he tells you something like "Someone's here to see you, buddy," and then turns into a bizarre monster. The sky goes dark and your ranch is suddenly surrounded by swarms of strange aliens you have to defeat, and then a UFO appears and you have to board it. Inside you can rescue all your vendor NPCs (some will be dead, so you can collect their items), but they're fucked up by the experience and their dialogue is garbled, all they can do is mutely sell you things. Once you buy them out they die silently.
Then the final boss dungeon appears as a giant mothership.

I kind of want a Soulsborne TCG, or at least a digital TCG. I'd play it. There's plenty of great NPCs, spells, weapons, items, and cryptic lore for good flavortext.

TCG is a bare mechanics, with flavour pictures and text.
Souls games are crafted mix of mechanics and atmosphere, lore etc.

I haven't fought that one. I'm approaching Pontiff in DS3 while also playing two DaSIISOTFS characters, so progress is slow. I'm actually about to restart DaS III because I regret pumping pure STR, I always go for quality and piss myself off when I don't. This is a case where I should have been leveling STR and DEX in tandem, and now I deal great damage with the Butcher's Knife but it's just...meh. I'd rather just have leveled up the starting longsword as the Knight and used it through most of the game.
Pure STR in SotFS is going really well, though.

Oh, Fool's Idol is a boss in Demon's Souls. It's like Crystal Sage where it's a teleporter that summons duplicates, and the way you tell it apart from the others is that its magic is different (it shoots soul ray while the others just use soul arrow) and also it has no individual healthbar.
Also there's an NPC up on a balcony that endlessly revives it unless you kill him first.

Also, it's more than just my points. It's a bunch of Titanite that blew upgrading weapons to try them out, NPC quests that I missed, a couple bosses I apparently killed "out of order" for some sort of alt ending.
I have a friend I play with who's already done all this shit, so I never hear the end of it when I "fuck up" in a game that gives you zero indication of whether or not you've fucked up. IMO, they've got kind of a stick up their ass about being cryptic and some small indication of what actions will alter the game would be nice.

My main worry with that is that the war would be about group battles and soldiers, and they'd need more dynamic AI for that. Like, enemy soldiers moving to engage each other and active patrols and stuff. Souls games aren't too good at that really. Imagine trying to do an escort mission.
