I like the idea of playing a regular human being at his peak, taking on supernaturals. So I don't usually choose pure magic classes, and in Deus Ex, I sometimes play without installing augmentations.

Just some personal role playing bullshit
>>
>>339024863
If I can I got for a hybrid kinda.
Just a little bit of magic so I can buff myself or my weapon with it and go to town.

It all depends on the mood.

I like playing 4 classes

Ranged, magic blaster all day every day. There's nothing more satisfying than unleashing a clusterfuck of magical missiles and energy blasts.

If I do go melee, I'll probably go either stealth, or in game where that isn't fun then a Paladin type of character with self healing and sword/board.
>>
Which games have the best supportive role?

The can include healing too, just not being exclusive to it.

Everquest

Dragon Quest online supports were nice, but I didn't played past trial

Melee with a magical weapon and utility spells.
>>
Depends on the mechanics. If it's got good fast paced melee then I'll usually indulge in it, but if it's slow and clunky usually a spammy magic build.

It depends.

Real-time, action-focused combat? Melee.
Real-time, yet slow or awkward combat? Archer.
Turn-based with a party? Mage. All the mages.
>>
>>339024863
That mage is op as fuck

He (or she?) is casting spells with little to zero preparation while also having the agility to dodge physical attacks.
>>
>>339024863
Slight preference toward ranged in general, but I usually end up trying everything on different playthroughs. Unless a class is completely shit, then I'll just skip playing it.
>>
>>339024863
Really depends on the game. Gothic manages to have both some of the best combat mechanics in games, but absolutely trash magic.

But, for example in Torchlight, Dragon's Dogma and other games with flashy magic and shit it's always fun to experiment.
>>
Hexblade (spellsword) but later I tend toward pure magic(+divine lately, ultimate combo.) and walk up to fully armored knights unarmed like a crazed badman.
>>
No matter the genre I like to be able to do a little bit of everything. Specialization is rarely a good idea, even when it is it limits you to a very specific playstyle, I like to have some variety in my strategy.
>>
>>339024863
>>
>>339027785
That's exactly how a mage should work. Only really strong spells should have a casting time. There's nothing fun about sitting in the back charging up some spell unless you have the freedom to do something else. When charging is a necessary rather than a tactical option in open areas you might as well just be some loser loading up a trebuchet.

I prefer having access to both decent magic and melee options, but if I had to choose one over the other, I'd have to go magic. Most magic classes that I've played come with some form of CC to allow me to cast uninterrupted, so I should be fine even without a melee combat oriented partner. Also, that feeling when I pull off a big spell is so great, especially ones with tons of graphical effects.

That was a tiny meteor that fell at a slow speed and had obvious warning to it. If we weren't in the middle of dramatic anime fun time the warrior girl could've just dodge rolled or something. There's a big difference between that and a mage shooting a meteor at you from outside the earths atmosphere.

>>339028587
That girl isn't really that strong, a good warrior with experience in a fight should be able to give her a run for her money. The knight girl doesn't know what she's doing. She gets that big cloud of smoke in front of her and she can come out at any angle, and she decides to do an extremely telegraphic jump straight towards the mage girl. If the mage or the writer wasn't retarded mage girl would've just shot a fireball up at the knight and blasted her out of the sky, then dropped a meteor on her while she was on her back.

>>339028868
Support mages are cool too, and probably the most useful class in a game if done right. Mages are a good replacement for a rogue or whatever because the rogue is limited to whatever weapons he has, he can't match the mages destructive power, although he might match the range. He makes up for this with better HP and DEF, and EVA stats.

Melee. Always. I prefer classes like paladins and berserkers over assassins and thieves. No other classes have a chance if the game has good looking heavy armor. Bonus points if there are armors with a Greco-Roman style and double bonus points for crested helmets.

I normally avoid magic classes, as I usually find them incredibly boring and/or unsatisfying to play compared to melee. I do have a soft spot for stuff like necromancers and summoners though. Anything that's not the generic "hurr durr I maek faiurballz" mage has a higher chance of me trying it.

DFO is definitely one of my favorite games in terms of class variety/balance/fun.

I still find chunking health bars hilarious, compared to draining them, at least. I always have a good giggle when I use my second awakening as a Demon Slayer and just fucking one-shot any midboss that dares stand in my way. Female Slayers might as well just be magic-lolis that were better endowed and traded their staves and spears for swords.

I like the idea of mages more than I actually like playing them. I suppose my ideal of what a wizard should be (super versatile utility master who creatively uses his surroundings and physics) is beyond what most games can provide.
The most recent game I played where I enjoyed being a spellcaster was Dragon's Dogma, just because of the huge blasty spells like the meteor storm, or Maelstrom. Mages really should be way bigger scale than they often are.

I prefer magic because they have more options. I like melee more than magic but most of the time the melee classes have much fewer interesting abilities compared to the magical classes.

Armor isn't heavy, and I was speaking in game terms anyway. Furthermore it would have been no problem for someone as strong as her. You saw how high she jumped? How long do you think it would take her to run to the edge of that arena? No time at all. With legs that strong she can outrun Usain Bolt. She might not have even needed to move. If her magic shield was strong enough she probably could've just blocked the meteor and let it roll off the shield since it just fell and few feet and was only being moved by gravity.

Still fun as fuck. Sad that Monk is now the 2nd most viable Priest class. RIP Exorcist and Avenger.
>>

Still the 2nd hardest to gear. At least Mexo can stick with one chron set and call it a day for Anton, Monks still need a full chron set and a legendary/epic set to swap to.
>>
>>339030307
Well yeah, but none of the Priests are viable for Anton besides moneywhore Monk and Crusader. Monks and Exos can't compete with Demon Slayers or Blade Masters.

I wish mages didn't have retarded unexplained stereotypical clothing. Why is the best thing I can wear some ridiculous droopy cloth hat and some fine silk overly expensive formal robes? RPG/Beat 'em up/MMO

More heavily leaning on the Beat 'em up side. It's called Dungeon Fighter Online. Great game, that's being prevented from dying by the devs earning over $200 million a year in Korea, and using some of that ridiculous dosh to keep some good servers going on in America/Europe/Australia.

Don't worry about the MMO part either, since parties aren't required until late game stuff. If you're good, you can solo the entire game.
>>

Sadly not many games have had something like that.
>>
Magic. With melee classes, you often have to auto attack/basic attack, which I find very boring.
>>
Magic's for pussies
>>
It used to depend on the game. For instance, in RPG's like Baldur's Gate, I'd generally go Tank. But that's changed.

Nowadays, I go Jack of All trades or whatever has the most mobility. I like to be able to do everything, even if I suck at everything. I just like to be able to do it. For instance, in WoW back in Vanilla and BC when Druids sucked ass, I liked playing a Druid. I liked being able to tank or DPS, I liked having Ranged DPS, I liked having heals.
Or in Archeage, I played a Bard, Mage and Rogue. This gave me heals, massive mobility, melee, invisibility, spells and Buffs. It was pretty average, and outside of Sneaking up on groups and using Meteor Shower, it was pretty terrible. But it was the most fun I had in that game.

A lot of games really hate Jack of all trades type classes though, so I'm generally always one of the weakest.
>>
>>339036761

>>339031126
There are several classes (Asura, Kunoichi) that do that, Kuno in particular does great damage with her passive and can clear some dungeons just by standing still and letting it do the work for her. If you want to put forth a minimum effort and still break the game, you can play Summoner, who shits out spirits and runs around occasionally whipping them and marking targets.
