I believe they tweaked a lot of the tedious things like farming issues for potions. Also I think I read that the combat system was tweaked to be more mechanically sound and fluid. Less mashing attack hoping they don't and more reacting to enemies with appropriate action.

The fact that load times will be better makes the game much more approachable.

I haven't enjoyed the combat in a Vanillaware game until now. This game's combat is fucking fantastic, holy shit.

>>
>>339013823
i like having games on PC over any other platform since the library is always accessible to me (and the obvious upshots of tweaking options/mods/etc)

the reason i mention it in the same breath as PS4 is because this generation (ps4/xbone) are both x86-based. so if something has been made for either system, it takes virtually no effort to create a PC port, since PC is also x86.

id happily buy it twice, but would also love to have all of vanillaware's titles on PC regardless.

i mean i already own the PS2 copy as well, so its more about seeing games make their way to PC.

srsly. though with FFX's recent stealth PC release and successful HD port on consoles... i have to imagine they will do it with FFXII as well. it would be dumb not to, and it is one of the last few games that isnt on PC yet.

IZJS played and looked amazing on emulator, and ideally an HD remaster would just update the UI and give the option for IZJS or original. the textures and models are already outstanding and only need to be up-res'ed... i swear if they re-do the faces of the main characters like in FFXHD ill be pissed.

so many people missed out on a great game and fantastic story/production on FFXII its really a shame. it is an evolutionary leap from FFX.

Not him, but oh, that's cool. I haven't played any Vanillaware games, but I just got a Vita and Muramasa and Dragon's Crown was on my list. Was wondering if I should play the original Odin's Sphere before this one or not, but if it's just a remake that includes the original... I guess I'll wait for it to come out.

Speaking of which, does the edition of Muramasa that comes with the DLC come with the DLC on the cartridges, or just codes to be redeemed on the PSN?

There's a Japanese version that does anyway, but it's just a code. I thought there was US version that had it all too. In any case, even if there is, it's probably the same way. Just wondering because I have a Japanese PSN account, but Muramasa and its DLC is cheaper on the US store (like everything else). If no all in one on the cartridge package exists, then I'll just have to get the Japanese version.

So I played the demo, pretty cool but a bit put off now. I've really been enjoying Dragon's Crown, but the combat in this game feels a bit... Shallower, I guess? Which I can deal with, but the demo ends before you can actually do any of the RPG stuff.

So, are the RPG mechanics deep enough to be satisfying if I enjoy Dragon's Crown?
>>
>>339023216
>So, are the RPG mechanics deep enough to be satisfying if I enjoy Dragon's Crown?
They're not nearly as deep. Most of the depth comes from crafting potions that will make shit like poison, cyclones, fire etc to defeat bosses. There's no stats for weapons, so you'll be using the same weapons throughout the game. There was talk of a skill tree and skills you can learn. But like you said, the demo kind of ended abruptly, so I'm not sure what they added.

Its much more like Muramasa gameaplay wise than DC.

Actually here's a more in depth explanation:

"Vanillaware added almost 200 skills and abilities in Odin Sphere Leifthrasir! You’ll have the freedom to unlock powerful active skills, passive skills, and abilities to unleash the true potential of the main characters. The leveling system also has been streamlined so characters and Psyphers now level together. But of course, nothing is free in Erion: defeating enemies and exploring different areas is the only way to obtain Phozons and Phozon Prisms that are spent on unlocking/upgrading skills. That’s right – the source of your power only comes from the death of enemies. You would do well to remember that."

"Besides the addition of the skill trees, Vanillaware also tweaked many different gameplay elements in order to give Odin Sphere Leifthrasir a modern touch. Improvements include the ability to assign skills to button commands, full 1080p/60 fps support (say goodbye to frame rate drops!)"

"The included Classic Mode features the original Odin Sphere’s systems (but keeps the upgraded HD)"
>>
>>339020986
Hard to say since I'm a fan of both but Odin Sphere has a preorder bonus of an artbook while GG comes with a DLC character code. If you don't care about the book you can save $6ish by buying GG at launch.

I'm a sucker for collectibles so I'd go with OS personally.

It used to be via food you dingus.
>>
>>339024983
They added a whole skill system to the game though where every character has unique weapon skills and spells. You can try some in the demo already. I think when you put that on top of the Muramasa-like combat it becomes the best Vanillaware to date.

In the original Odin Sphere you only had a few skills you could limitedly use and many of them were shared between characters.

Yeah judging by what the demo showed it feels like most of them are more useful than the Muramasa ones where I felt like the majority were iffy while some specific ones were really good.

Not to mention you now use a resource that is meant to be spent anyway on skills since it doesn't double as weapon durability. Also the fact you can equip any skill and have multiple slots instead of being limited to what your current weapon has is hype as fuck.

Oh, didn't know you could have AI partners, neat. Oswald in this demo played a lot like how I imagine Vergil from DMC would play on a 2D plane, don't know what he was like in the original OS but he was pretty fucking fun here.

Speaking of DMC, should I get Dragon's Crown over DmC and Dark souls 2 Scholar Edition? I know
>DmC
but I've a huge fan of the franchise and after putting many hours into the OG series I've become hungry for more stylish action. Can I be stylish in DC? I noticed you could get pretty stylish in this demo, so I'm hoping DC can scratch that itch and keep me from buying fucking DmC.

Yes you should. Both are bad games. And if you are a "fan" of DMC then you shouldn't even mention that abomination. Also Dragon's Crown is a game I personally couldn't get into. I'd imagine it being much more fun if you played with someone, but I didn't have anyone to play with.
>>
>>339033212
I don't think DS2 looks bad, I mean ADP and the hitbox issues sound shitty but the original DS wasn't perfect either. Also I know I shouldn't want DmC, but I'm really hungry for more stylish action, my body yearns for it.
>>
>>339011782

>>
>>339033570
if you havent played DS2 at all, the controls and gameplay feel very different from DS1 and are much worse
if you want to try it, wait until it's on sale for 5 bux
>>
>>339033570
The biggest problem with DS2 isn't on a mechanical level, it's in how uninspired it is. The levels are boring, the enemies are boring, the weapons are boring, the map is boring. It's Dark Souls stripped of its, well, soul.
It's still an ok game, but if you enjoyed the atmosphere and exploration in the first one, you're going to be disappointed.
>>
>>339032758
Well this is a Vanillaware thread so of course I'm going to recommend DC over anything.

I don't know if you play on pc, but DmC was on humble bundle recently with some DLC too..

I loathe Dark Souls 2 myself so you won't get an unbiased opinion on that one from me. Seems like you should get the active game aka Dark Souls 3 instead.

If you want stylish action you should look into
Bayonetta 1&2(Wii U)
Dragon's Dogma(PC)
Vanquish(PS3)
MGR Revengeance is on sale too on pc right now if you've missed it.

If you want a Vanillaware game get DC.

i dont need a demo to know that its good.
its my most anticipated game this year and really cant wait

anyone knows what mode they are starting with?
going to play the original first, or the enhanced version?

Are they similar to 3's controls? I've played that and enjoyed it, but the weapon art thing bothers me. It's not bad but I've seen power-stancing in 2 and I gotta wonder why it got replaced with something inferior.

Is there a reason to play it again? I beat it aons ago and I liked it but it got repetitive I don't see it playing it again.

The demo is kinda short though

I'll probably play it anyway since I really enjoyed the PS2 version.
>>
>>339033725
After going through DS3 I've just accepted that Souls will never have the level design of 1 again. As for atmosphere and exploration, it was what I liked the most about OG DS, which is something I felt 3 fumbled with, too. I still enjoyed it, but it felt really linear and uninspired, like what you're saying about 2. I've heard 2 has an insane amount of build variety and I guess that's what I'm most interested in since I already know the atmosphere and exploration are gonna let me down.

>>339033740
Only gaming consoles I got atm are PS4 and PS3, no PC either. I've played Bayo 1, DD(one of my all time favorite games actually), Vanquish and MGR. I enjoyed them all immensely but I want something new.
>>
>>339034229
>A port of an almost 10 year old game from 2 gens ago
>Charging 60 bucks for the standard edition

Yeah nah go fuck yourself. It's 30 bucks over priced for what it is. HD remixes of other games (that had multiple games on the disc) where hardly ever full price.
>>
>>339034045
that shirt is such a letdown
>>
>>339034018
I'm not sure how I feel about 3's gameplay yet, it was nice but felt a lot like BB to me. I liked BB a lot, in fact I'd say it's tied with OG DS for the best fromsoft ARPG, but I'm not sure if I like the faster pace for DS
>>
>>339034478
It's not just an hd remix. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdePH3-xoWo

It's faster, the combat system is reworked, and comes with a simple hd version of the original if one doesn't like the new stuff.
>>
>>339034478
this isnt some cheap 3D HD remake where they just increased the resolution
they made new animations, new enemies, the combat and other shit are completely redone, etc
and it includes the original game
>>
>>339034592
It really is, i'd rather a plushie from the game

>>339034747
It's still at it's core a port of a PS2 game. SoC/Ico was a 40 buck game when it got its HD port, so was the Jak collection and that had 3 games.

It's a bit over priced i mean shit they still got me but I wounder if it will hurt sales in the long run.
>>
>>339011782
>Demo's out today
I should have waited before preordering.
>>
>>339034910
The only reason it feels like a port of a PS2 game is that it's using the same art, as Vanillaware can't really change that. If it had different graphics I'm fairly sure people whould have no problem with calling it a remake.
>>
>>339031332
Post-game, probably not, but the main game, sure.

>>339013809
>American version has the Japanese dub

>>

>>
>>339035372
What happens post-game?
>>
>>339034910
>It's still at it's core a port of a PS2 game
No it isn't. It's essentially a new game in terms of mechanics, levels, boss moves and pretty much everything that has to do with the gameplay. The only things it borrows from the original are its story, some of the gameplay concepts (but again, mostly reimagined) and many of the art assets.
Not that I would mind it being 40, but calling it a port is fucking ridiculous. Almost every mechanic has changed in some way.
>>
>>339035557
There's just a post-game dungeon/tower that's pretty challenging. It's best to go with people who have actual builds/experience. I imagine it won't be as enjoyable with AI partners.
>>
>>339035557
It's mostly due to the AI partners being useless on higher difficulties. They can't dodge for shit, so don't expect them to help to much against bosses that do high damage. I still beat the game on the hardest difficulty solo, but the partners die really quickly on difficulties above normal.
>>
>>339035642
Oh, so like root 5 chalice dungeons in Bloodborne? I like those so I might actually enjoy that.
>>
>>339035513
They put dual audio in the original PS2 release.
>>
>>339035730
Do I have to help the partners or can I just let 'em die and do my own thing?
>>
>>339035513
Yep, the American version is dual audio. The European version however (And by extension, the versions in Australia and New Zealand) doesn't have the Japanese dub, but substitutes it for French, Spanish and Italian language tracks.

>>339036127
But that does nothing. The experience is the same. I get Vita being cheaper because handheld games generally are always $40 and you need to make due with a small screen and can't really enjoy it in high resolution on big TV.

This pricing makes sense in games where the PS3 version runs like ass compared to PS4 but as far as I can tell these are identical. Played the Japanese demo on PS3 and it didn't have any hiccups.

Is it really? Even Dragon's Crown was 60 fps on Vita and the original Odin Sphere was 60 fps even on a fucking PS2 (except for Odette lol).

Either you have autism or you are just fucking around. Sure it's a port in terms of "this game that used to be on platform X is now on platform Y" but the gameplay has completely been reinvented so calling it a remake is not a stretch. If you want to call it a port then it's a re-imagined port. In any case it's not "just port that is worth less than a new game".
>>
>>339036921
Mass Effect 1/2 and The Witcher 2 didn't receive massive changes to the base gameplay mechanics, remastered or outright new assets, and additional changes.

Stop being a retard m8
>>
>>339037110
>Mass Effect 1/2 and The Witcher 2 didn't receive massive changes to the base gameplay mechanics

You are 100% wrong mate, try and play Mass Effect 1&2 with a gamepad and see how far you get :)

>>339037097
Really? You are calling me autistic? Bit of the pot calling the kettle black yea? Your the one saying a 10 year old PS2 game is worth 60 bucks and aruging semantics over the word "port"
>>
>>339037253
Ah, so it's bait.
>>
>>339037253
>Your the one saying a 10 year old PS2 game is worth 60 bucks

No, I'm saying a brand new game that is based on a 10 year old PS2 game is worth 60 bucks. Is it so hard to comprehend?

Also like this guy says >>339037339 it's bait. The style of writing is a dead giveaway although using "kool aid" multiple times should have been one already.
>>
>>339037339
>I have no argument so i'll just claim it's bait

>>339037412
Did we play the same demo? Is it still not a 2D game based on circle maps? It's the same assets from the PS2 game that got touched up. It is not a ground up remake.
>>
>>339037553
>It has aspects taken from the PS2 game so that means I can ignore the fact it plays nothing like the old game

Nobody ever called it a ground up remake but it's still a remake.

>Build a house
>When I built it I thought it was good but now I want something better
>Take it apart and build it differently
>Add a few new parts while you are at it

>Hey I rebuilt my house!
>NO YOU DIDN'T IT'S THE SAME HOUSE SINCE YOU USED THE SAME MATERIALS
>>
>>339037553
Mario World is pretty much a port of Mario Bros 3. Is it still not a 2D game based on going from left to right? It's even got the same designs in terms of graphics, just touched up.
Only wait, the level design, gameplay mechanics and so on are all different. When is a game not the same game anymore? What is the difference between games? I'd argue it's mostly the gameplay mechanics, you know, the thing that makes a game a game. These gameplay mechanics feel vastly different in the remake compared to the original game. Some really general concepts might be the same, like it being a 2D platformer, but the actual raw mechanics are vastly different.
>>
>>339037834
>false equivalence

Really hate to bust out logical fallacies but your house rant has nothing to do with how video games are made and ported. This is an enhanced port.

Like honest question, how much of the game is gonna have different geometry? From what I played none of it

>>339037975
I mean in some ways it was you guys that got all autistic about the word port. It's semantics really but you guys jumped on that word to defend the price of the game because it's the only argument you guys got. Everyone here knows it's 20 bucks over priced at least. I paid the Fatlus tax, it's not like I didn't spend the money. I'm more so worried it will hurt sales and keep other Vanillaware games in the East.
>>
>>339037975
>the level design

Going by the demo it's 1to1 for geometry of the level

> gameplay mechanics and so on are all different

We are gonna get real nitpicky about this but like I said by your logic Mass Effect 1 and 2 were remade for consoles and not ported because both them games play really fucking different since the PC version doesn't use gamepads and the consoles do
>>
>>339038217
I don't give a shit if you call me autistic or whatever, it's just not a port and calling it one is fucking absurd. Again, if it didn't have the same graphics you wouldn't even notice.
>>
>>339038347
But it does have the same graphics and it has the same geometry as well.

You port truthers are the ones that started using the autism insult first. I don't need to stoop to that level because i'm 100% right
>>
>2 weeks from release already
Shit time flies. Going to pre order for the art book.
>>
>>339038325
Changing an input device doesn't change the underlying logic behind the gameplay systems. Odin Sphere has different gameplay systems.
Also replay the original, it didn't even really have level design. As far as I remember they were all circular with very little to them, while the remake has platforming sections, rooms that are horizontal and vertical. The geometry is not the same.

>>339038494
I never called you an autist at any rate.
>>
I'll get it on Vita for $40. $60 on PS4 is too much.

I have played both Dragon's Crown and Muramasa Rebirth, how much content does Odin Sphere have compared to the other titles mentioned?
>>
>>339038623
>Changing an input device doesn't change the underlying logic behind the gameplay systems

It 100% does, at least in this case. The balancing is even different to composante. Go play the 360 version then the PC then try and tell me they play the same.

>Odin Sphere has different gameplay systems

Yeah sure, if you swallow all the marketing wank. I played the demo and the ps2 version almost back to back. Sure played real similar to me.
