Years ago i sold my ps3 when they anounced the ps4 in that weird feb event with just a controller. So i spent a lot of time on here shitposting.
Everyone was so hyped for this game before kickstarted scams started happening in bulk. In general we all had good hopes. The game had cool demos in Unreal Engine 3 or 4 demos and seemed like a great future. 3 years later and now the game has the most cringeworthy trailer ever.

Boom was initially a completely different game that had nothing to do with Sonic, but Sega decided "Hey, why don't you make it Sonic now".
Then, after development had been progressing on the next gen systems with CryEngine, Sega announced the exclusivity deal with Nintendo, and that Sonic Boom was part of that deal. Of course, they didn't notify anyone at Big Red Button before deciding this.
So Big Red Button had to shift development to a completely different system, and is still to this day the only game on Wii U made with CryEngine since the engine wasn't optimized at all for Wii U anyways.
Why didn't they just switch engines? Well, when Sega told BRB about the platform change, they also kept the same release date, so BRB had no time to port everything to a brand new engine.
So while BRB is pretty shit at developing, Sega's still pretty responsible for this that is Sonic Boom.

Aside from the fact that the stages look incredibly bland, both mechanically and graphically, its development has been a trainwreck of one horrible idea followed by another.
There was no footage when it was announced so no one had anything to go on except concept art that looked wildly different from the final thing. Once it made a bunch of money, Inafune immediately went and started a ton of additional kickstarters for DLC, an animated series, a spinoff, and an animated series for the spinoff, and even went on about doing sequels and films, all before the game has even touched ground.
On top of that, some of the promises made at the beginning were cut. Beck was supposed to have more abilities, but, due to a "tight budget", they were scrapped, despite receiving several times their original asking price.
Lastly you've got Inafune himself, who had played himself up as the creator of Mega Man, making this spiritual successor to strike a blow against the evil Capcom, but as time has passed everyone has come to realize he's an even scummier businessman than anyone at Capcom, and plainly doesn't know shit about game design.
