Lucio is just stupid. Fast, passively heals anyone around him, can basically mini zenyatta ult and then his real ult is temporary invuln for the entire team.
The other supports are situationally really solid, but Lucio is a no brainer good in every situation.

McCree and Lucio are among the classes you don't need to win.
Tracer, Reinhardt, Pharah, Mercy are essential for our team and we never lose. The other two depend on offense/defense/enemy team.
Reinhardt pushes and Tracer uses him as a spawn, teleporting through his shield to antagonize the enemy line then rewinding to safety until the enemy is destroyed. Pharah antagonizes from above to keep the heat off Reinhardt and Mercy is there to fill in the gaps. The other two literally don't matter in most situations, only when we face a seriously skilled team (which never happens).
Unfortunately for everyone else we have the best Tracer, Reinhardt and Mercy in the Overwatch community and our Pharah isn't half bad either.

There are no pro teams and there is no official circuit yet (comes in June). McCree is easy to Trump. The delay in his ult is too high to be effective against anyone with a higher than potato reaction time. His fan the hammer is effective against a poor tracer but his cooldown time on all skills make him weak.

McCree isn't even that great outside of 1 on 1 situations (and that's only because of the stun). His Ultra is literally only useful if he has managed to creep up and get the drop on the other team.
The only truly annoying characters are Lucio and Mei. Eh, and maybe Junkrat, but he's just annoying because of that fucking tire getting more POTGs than even the Double Dragon or Bastion's Landmaster.
Is this game actually worth jumping on the bandwagon for? Most of my friends already bought it and one of them wants me to join in. I just can't get over the feeling that it's gonna fizzle out soon, though.

If I wanted to play a fast paced single player focused FPS, I would play the new Doom.
Overwatch is a fun multiplayer vs FPS title with characters that all handle different.
Plus, given how I see a plethora of characters being listed as broken, it is a pretty good sign that the game is fairly balanced.
If it was universally 'X and Y are broken' instead of half the god damned roster, then yeah, you got a problem. When the bulk of your roster has someone bitching about them being broken, you are actually pretty straight. Look at the ones nobody is bitching about and make them better.

None of the button presses are difficult, but the game still is challenging. Skill comes from team composition, coordination, target prioritization, fundamental understanding of counters, timing ults based on performance and charge rates, and yes, technical input. Nobody has a 100% hit rate. There is a degree of skill involved with shooting and moving, but I agree, it's nowhere near as complicated as other games. That doesn't mean the game is easy though, only challenging in other regards.
Consider a game that wasn't being memed at the time; Battlefield 2. This game had almost no technical skill requirements. The spread system was actually intentionally designed so that individual skill with mkb could not possibly allow the player to overcome a situation where they made the wrong strategic decision. Nobody ever said bf2 had a low skill ceiling and it has become noteworthy as having incredibly competitive public matches despite having so many players on each team with unique class roles. It was such a good game that we played it for literally a decade before it was shut down due to gamespy and ea.

Shes not too bad as a defensive hero, but she has an extremely strange kit. Really, only her sentries and her tele are the useful bits, and even the sentries are odd with the fact that you can only hold 3 at a time.

McCree is the best character in the game bar none with his ability set. Hes excellent at all ranges, and in melee range he can burst down any hero with no reprisal at all. It can be pretty damn satisfying to take down tanks and squishies alike.
