Could be either.
>>
>>338954287

That's not even phone. That was a home offer from somewhere, judging from the mention of installation and "no equipment to buy".

It's got to be something of an old ad, though, because 10mbps is the absolute minimum allowed now in the US, if you want to call it high-speed/broadband, and the price for that bottom tier is usually way lower.

If it's actually a current ad, OP must be living so far in the hillbilly mountains that he's used to having his ass reamed out anyway.

>people posting bandwidth instead of jitter
Games use barely any bandwidth, one of the most important things you can do to ensure your game runs well online is to request and send as little information as possible. Even games with very high or custom update/tick/command rates cranked way up only use maybe 15 KB down and 5KB up.

What matters is your distance from the server and your connection's stability (packet loss and jitter)

Throttling exists because ISP's don't want to upgrade infrastructure to handle the demand, so they throttle everyone because they're fucking jews. Everyone in that area pays hundreds of dollars every month of an ISP to just sit around say fuck off.

In the late 90's the government gave out huge grants so that people could spread the internet coverage across america

This really did work as by 2005, almost half of america had internet service compared to in 1999 when merely 5% did.

But yes you're right, today the ISP's just pocket the money, upgrade to stuff like DOCSIS 3.0 but don't actually increase your bandwidth, fucking cap or anything
>>
>>338956653
He's a retard who knows nothing about networking. Someone told him about the need for IPv6, he misunderstood it, and made that video.

It's not a question of bandwidth or carrier capacity, IPv4 uses a 32-bit address and there are only so many you can have operating at once. IPv6 uses 128-bit addresses and thus has vastly more addresses to assign. As more and more countries and areas get internet access it's very possible we might someday reach the limit of IPv4 addresses, which is why IPv6 exists. That's it.

My ISP throttles down p2p speed after 10GB and literally spies on everything / threatened with shut down, forcing fines up your ass for downloading torrents

Picked up based chinese VPN and raping their bandwidth constantly with encryption.

Get a call from ISP asking if everything is ok with my speeds? I say yea no complains. They of course called for other reasons (can't see through mine protocol and packages during daily sniffing routine) and offer me a higher bandwidth with data caps of 1000GB but faster. I said politely fuck off but no thx. They never called again in the past 4 years.

I agree with you, but we all know why they do it. So they can squeeze more money out of suckers. And since the government protects them, there's nothing you can do.

The only thing you can hope for is for Google to get their fiber to your neighborhood. But it's hard because government, corrupted politicals and other internet companies are cockblocking it like crazy.

Government is just retarded as fuck since they don't know shit about technology and think internet companies need protecting. There's no fucking logic to it.

Data caps won't stop, if anything they'll become more even more common as the time passes, and while most consumers don't care it'll probably be obligatory for every plan. Even if there's bandwith left companies rather not spend any more money on infrastructure, but obviously they want to have more consumers.

Enjoy unlimited internet while you can, data caps are here to stay.

Streaming services pay ISP's so they don't throttle your shit when you stream. It's fucking disgusting how powerful ISP's have become. I live in LA and thankfully Time Warner has some competition because it's a major city. I'm paying $35 a month for 50mps uncapped but once the 12 month promotion is over I wouldn't be surprised if they hike up my bill another $20. I'll have to call customer support and threaten to change ISP's to haggle my price down. It's a ridiculous process because even at $35 price point they're making like %1000 profit and spend none of that to improve their service like installing fiber.
