Outside of skins, there's nothing to strive for and no substantial way to personalize your favorite character. Small and limited maps, very few game modes, and absolutely no single player or meaningful PvE co-op gameplay to flesh out the characters. It's just not worth the asking price.

Not for a while, but I'm already getting tired of how few maps there seem to be. I've done a million Volstayas,Anubis', and Hollywood, but very little beyond that. I've not played Hanamura, Nubani,or Route 66 once. And the KOTH maps I've played a handful of times.

I think it's really just dependent on how far that new content gets them and how fast and frequently it rolls out. I was psyced for the beta, but I saw everything the game had to offer in those few days. There's just such little variety or any means of progressing to keep you playing.

That being said overwatch marketing was pretty substantial. I don't know if that will translate into a long lasting game though since blizzard treats their communities like shit, and the only reason TF2 lasted was because valve deliberately tried to foster one.
Anyone else annoyed by how much marketing this thing has recieved? I haven't seen so many ads and different means of promoting a game on a scale like this before. The playerbase just feels artificial because it's calculated to attract as many people as possible and it has the money backing it to force it into having a competitive scene. It's going to succeed, but more on the merits of Blizzard's deep pockets than the people actually invested in the game. Mobility characters are just 10x more solid then the rest of the cast on attack. One tank is necessary to draw fire pretty much just Reinhardt and one healer just for healing and pushing with a ult when people suicide run in.
Team comp has about as little depth as the gun play of the game. The only reason you see diverse teams is because every kid wants to use Reaper and because people usually don't want to be the healer/tank so they kill their team.
Asymmetrical shooters will always end up as boring unbalanced garbage outside of a few exceptions like TF2. Ultimates also make this game the ultimate child like experience even COD is harder to score kills/pushes in.

The reason TF2 has so much longevity is not only because of the hundreds of content updates, but because of the modability and community created content. If Overwatch implements a similar sort of freedom I think the game could last for 5-10 years.
...But knowing Blizzard, and how far they have their heads stuck up their asses it'll be heavily moderated and locked off with obligatory once every 4-6 month updates adding minimal content. In all likelihood it'll suffer the same fate as SC2 and HotS.
