V's leaders had props surrounding them and their backgrounds were a bit more detailed than murky concept art paintings.
>>
it's like they don't know how to make the core city building/management part of the game interesting so they just polish the shit out of the game and up in dumb minigames like managing fucking art galleries or other dumb shit instead of improving their games
>>

>>

Compared to everything prior to V, not really.
If anything V was the one that departed from the somewhat stylized look of the previous entries. VI is dialing it back.

Also helps that Civics and lots of other shit are being redone completely.

I'm cautiously interested in this new district system, but my one concern is that it would make my favorite mapmode, Archipelago, unplayable due to the lack of open space on those maps
>>
>>338859950
>Teddy finally getting some vidya

I might actually buy it despite the shitty art direction.
>>
>>338861134
>it's still in development!
What will you say when the game comes out and the backgrounds still look like this? V's reveals tended to show concept art if they were still in development, they only showed the leaderscreens when they were done. If that's anything to go on then this is probably what it will look like.
>>
>>338861306
Archipelago will be removed.
We will have

>SMALL map
>ONE BIG ISLAND map
>>
>>338861160
kek, IV and V look more similar than IV and VI. Just because IV was more cartoony than V doesn't mean this is the natural evolution of IV's style. Only the leaders are more in line with IV's style.
>>

They said the UI was placeholder too.
>>
>>338861619
Either way, since when have graphics been a selling point in a Civ game?
>>
>>338861712
>what about you?
What about you? Even the placement of Teddy Roosevelt on the screen indicates it'll be more of a Beyond Earth type deal than V, it certainly doesn't bode well. Just throwing out your concerns until it's too late because "in development" is a cop out.
>>
>>338861842

also a lot of people are complaining because it looks like they've made it ugly so it would run on mobile devices, if they're try to make it a mobile game then there's good reason to suspect the game itself will be less complex

That doesn't mean they won't take cues from Beyond Earth. Teddy's leaderscreen definitely has hints of BE's relatively static leaders (though they did evolve) than it does V's usage of a particular set for each leader. Granted some of V's leader were just them standing in a room.

So it sounds like the governments work something like this - each time you unlock a new civic, you get to freely change stuff around, but if you do it on other turns, it costs something (probably just gold?)

And civics unlock through a bunch of techs, but government types are tied to specific techs that unlock multiple kinds at once.

>After building up my army more, focusing on a settler to establish a new city, and starting research on foreign trade, I run into Egypt's Cleopatra. All the leaders speak in their correct native language, a nice touch as Cleopatra greets me in Coptic. She invites me to visit her city and I agree.

>Civilization VI introduces leader agendas, and Cleopatra's is "Queen of the Nile," which states that she likes powerful militaries and will try to ally with them. Firaxis pulled this detail from her actual life; she aligned herself with powerful men like Julius Caesar and Mark Anthony, seducing them so Egypt wouldn't get attacked. She also has another randomly assigned hidden agenda that I'll need to discover through trade routes or by sending a delegation.

>Cleopatra likes me because I've been building up my army to take out that barbarian camp, but if you don't have a powerful military, she won't give you the time of day. Later, when my army loses forces facing the barbarian camp and I explore too close to her border, our relationship declines. She especially gets mad once I meet and stay on friendly terms with Teddy Roosevelt, whom she dislikes. Rumors and gossip show up about leaders throughout the game; this new system gives you more information to react to and plan your decisions around.

If you carry a big enough stick then she will suck your dick

The gameplay changes are for the worse.

Barbarians never did invasion forces. Why make them smarter than they already were? In civ5 without the CBP barbarians never even attacked your cities, just walked around your territory pillaging everything. And they didn't even pillage roads. Just were a nuisance, really.

Buildings being tile improvements is pretty much worse as well. You get a sense of expansion, sure. But if that was the case, the map has to be expanded as well. I really shouldn't be building my wonders on the same border that I share with teddy over there who started 7 tiles away from me bajillion years ago.

After much complaining unit stacking is probably back. PROBABLY. Not that we know much about how it works, but in reality it will be about finding the best combo and rolling it.

Research bonuses are probably an improvement and your current state doing more impact on your research rather than "research X if you're military, research Y if you're pacifisht by turn [integer]". Then again, you wouldn't research sailing if you were in the middle of continent, unless, of course, the fucking tree didn't have it prior to fertilizer.

Same goes for "civics" or what ever they call culture policies now. Seems that instead of choosing them yourself, you get them by either depending on your current situation or what ever you're doing right now.

Global happiness being gone is actually an improvement. I suppose. No more stacking circus, coliseums and such to artificially improve your empire's happiness. Then again, not that happiness level gave you any bonuses in non CBP civ5, besides preventing you from losing production and/or growth.

What interested me was first impression dialogues. Then again, I actually hope that out of the box diplomacy will actually do anything besides "hurr i denounce u, other civs wont want to do anything with u durr, i denounce someone else no war pls" to an eventual embargo. Jokes on you, you didn't embargo city states.

>constant notification spam that's hard to keep up with
>seemingly always build defense buildings meaning they're a chore to deal with in wars
>rewards are absurdly overpowered, you can basically throw a bunch of money at them (or get lucky and finish quests) and double your culture or faith output
>because of the way 1upt works, spreading religion to them is infuriatingly time consuming because they keep all their units within their borders and it can be impossible to get near the city and spread religion
>they move their units every turn even when there's no need to and take up a lot of time in between turns as a result
>since other civs don't play by the same rules as you, they can constantly just throw money they don't have at city states to ally up with them
>they get annoyed when you walk through their territory even when you just use scouts/non military units
>interaction is extremely limited, they can't even trade resources

Your entire post reeks of "they actually changed something or made it different, that automatically makes it bad!"

Honestly, all of the changes sound like they are increasing the focus and importance of having a military. In Civ 5, you could get by with a minimalist military on most difficulties with the right playstyle. That does not seem to be the case this time.

Barbs increase need for military early game.
Wonders and certain buildings being made into tile improvements means that spamming and creating every building and wonder you possibly can is no longer viable. Instead of being good at everything, you have to decide on a strategy and be selective with what you are going to build in what cities- space is limited. You can't build everything now. This increases military by making invasions and taking enemy cities more important- to get the wonders and space for wonders you could not get yourself. It also gives you a lot of free turns to produce great people or units with instead of simply producing buildings non stop.
The best combo will change throughout the tech eras, and if they do it well, will change depending on the opponents forces.

Culture policies are no more. Culture is now its own tree, that works just like the tech tree, but with different bonuses and unlocks.

What makes me think I will like it? Maybe because Civ 5 is my favorite PC exclusive game that I have hundreds of hours in split between multiplayer and singleplayer. I enjoyed each and every one of its expansions and Brave New World in particular I feel improved the game significantly.

These are the same guys behind those expansions, and every change sounds like something I will enjoy.

>Teddy Roosevelt, as depicted in Civ VI’s full-body animated diplomatic encounters, is a smiling bear of a man. He makes reference to the toys that go by his name in one line of dialogue, which is one of those weird reminders (as if the immortal presence of a single leader weren’t enough) that Civilization’s awareness of any particular historical moment is flexible in the extreme. The leaders, as ever, represent the entire span of their civilization’s existence, lending one aspect of their personality or historical rule as a fixed agenda – a second agenda is selected randomly from a pool of possibilities at the beginning of each new game.

>What that means, in practice, is that you’ll learn to expect certain kinds of behaviour from each leader, but that base personality type will be modified by the second, hidden agenda. In Roosevelt’s case, his fixed agenda causes him to behave aggressively toward any civ involved in a war on his own continent – that’s to say, he’ll look unkindly on violence close to home, while tending to turn a blind eye to military action overseas. I believe, though can’t be sure, that he is much more inclined to take issue with the aggressor in a home-continent war, and that was certainly the case in my playthrough, when Cleopatra entered the fray.

The P-51 Mustang was able to outmaneuver the best German Luftwaffe fighters above 15,000 feet and even outlast the efficient Japanese fighters, and by 1943 the P-51 Mustang was in service on every American front.

His film studio was used to capture the amusing larks of vaudeville and theater actors, to display within penny arcades, fairground tents and unused theaters. By 1920, there were a dozen film studios in operation around Hollywood, California, each feeding what would become an American and global obsession with film.

There's the core city tile with the capitol building, monument, granary and such.

Then there's district tiles which house part of what used to all be contained in a City proper - the Holy Site has the temple, cathedral, etc., the Campus has the library, university, public school, etc., then there's farms and mines and towns which are tile improvements, then there's the Film Studio which does whatever it does (probably Happiness/Tourism related), and I guess that's a Wonder in there, too?

"Cities" now sprawl across their whole territory.
