It's not even just themes, it's the gameplay itself. I really liked Persona 3's setting and cast, but I still can't be assed to put up with all the scenes and social link stuff. On the flip side, Nocturne also has a relatively neat setting to it, but I just find the game too boring to get invested in. Demon variety sucks and the world feels too empty like they hit the atmospheric approach a little too hard. Though that's purely my own taste. Though I do have the PSP versions of 1 and 2 sitting in a folder, I just never got around to starting them.

To anyone who still wanted the context of Tiki's moaning scene.
It happens when a guy deactivates the devil summoning program via 5 temples that suppresses the 5 sins and you have to deactivate those temple's to get the program working again.
All the room are filled with a burning incense that needed to be covered but the mist can disable a lesser man, Toki being an intensely trained assassin volunteered and one of those incense pots governs the sin of vice, the scene then happens there.
Being that it's an important element in the story that involves 2 major plot points and 3 boss fights, it will be almost impossible to remove the 5 temples scene, knowing how they treat the western audience, it is highly likely the scene will either be skipped or be Toki about wanting to be popular or some other child-safe content.
Which is fine IMO because you guys are getting the dub version anyways, enjoy missing Kaiba-Krishna and Char-Daguza.

I'm an actual translator, so I have an idea of the mindset behind these. Note that I've only played SMT I, so I'm not familiar with these, but I still have an idea.

This was probably just made because they believed that Divine Powers sounds better in English. Perhaps they thought Polytheistic Alliance sounded corny. I'm not sure if it's what I'd have gone with, but it seems like a change that was made because the translator/localizer (sometimes they're the same thing, sometimes they're not) tried to make it sound better. It may or may not have been a good choice, but it's not censorship.

Miroku is the Japanese name for Matreiya, the localizers just went with the original name. This is fine. It's the same reason why people translate Enma Daoi as King Yamma.

Plus Alpha and the Nintendo Treehouse are two terrible localization studios that change anything they want because they can, that is abysmal localization. Nocturne had barely 180 demons, a good section of which were special. SMT4 using 3d models would have likely killed the content of game to probably around 200 or so demons, all so you could see who you are fighting in 3d. Not even the player characters' monsters. Just enemies.
