Actually it does improve. It's current year and skyrim has the biggest modding community of any game in the history of PC gaming. You can find a mod for literally anything. Better quests, done. The only visual mods I've ever seen and enjoyed are the kind that just make what's already in the game look sharper.
It seems like every attempt to actually replace something with "better faces/hair/weapons/trees/grass/water" just ends up looking like horrible, out of place nonsense. Mostly takes two. One for the body and one for the textures. You can make it more complex by getting further mods for hair, creation tools, etc. It's not that complicated. Just find a body that you like (most of them have BodySlide, too, so you can tweak pretty much every detail) and then a texture that's compatible with that body. From there, get stuff like RaceMenu or the alternatives, hair mods, and so on.

It's called shadow cascades and that's just how the game is programmed. A box around the player for higher quality shadows. If you are asking whether you can increase the size of that box, I don't know that. All I know is that you can't get rid of the box.
