My dad got me into fantasy and RPGs, he used to play MMO's when he was younger and would let me fool around on his accounts sometimes.
Real life responsibilites, getting older, and the MMO genre kinda becoming shit after WoW WOTLK are probably why he doesn't game anymore. But he still appreciates video games, he thought the idea behind Killzone was cool and was amazed by a Thief trailer he saw on one of those TVs in Gamestop. He gladly buys me vidya stuff if I ask for it. If it weren't for morals and not wanting to be a lazy neet parasite I could just ask for one of the new 10X0 graphics cards and he'd order it few questions asked.
My mom once saw me robbing a store in GTA V and laughed when I shot the store clerk. She asked me why I would a shoot a man after he gave me his money. (streetshitting fucker pulled a gun on me that's why) It was a nice mother/son bonding moment and it's her go to anecdote whenever she's talking about videogames.

My mom retired a few years ago and became so bored, she started spending a lot more time with me. We started watching anime and playing games together and she's arguably reaching otaku levels of enthusiasm. (Though she still behaves normally, for the most part, her interest in covering anison aside) She convinced me to buy both a PSTV and Digimon Cyber Sleuth once we got done watching Digimon Tamers. She also wanted to play Super Robot Wars after watching Mazinkaiser, until she found out that I would have to translate every line for her on the spot since the ones with the characters she cared about were not released outside of Japan and her Japanese isn't so great yet.
On that note, she is also convinced that Japan makes the best video games mostly because she thinks western games are too violent or simplistic (Largely because my cousins only play Call of Duty, Mortal Kombat, and Grand Theft Auto very badly), but she does like Overwatch, for some reason.
Oh, and she will watch me play MMOs, but rarely ever joins in since she thinks they are too hard to play.
