It looks so good it's actually fun to just walk around throwing grenades everywhere so you can look at the amazing fire and smoke effects. Can't say I'm gonna play it more than once, though.
I have to say, it's shocking how well this game runs for how good it looks. Once I got to Madagascar I fully expected the game to struggle with the open area, but I couldn't notice any drops at all.
The multiplayer is pretty mediocre. Could be good if the maps were more focused on the rope mechanic, but they're all generic shit with almost no verticality to them so you spend most of your time running and shooting instead of doing fun things.
Okay, Uncharted 4 is good but what about the other PlayStation exclusive?
Disappointing in the worst way, there's many great things tucked into this game but they are dragged down by scripted sequences that take away your control as a player and tie you down to a mediocre story

1 is really short (like 6 hours of you don't suck) and it's obviously very important storywise.
I'd play them all, even if you just blast through on Easy, 4 is full of great callbacks and fan service, that will be lost on you if you didn't play all 3 originals.
But yeah, the gameplay in 1 isn't great. They had all the climbing and traversal systems, and shooting, but it didn't occur to them to combine the two. So it's mostly just a cover shooter with platforming in between fights. Later games (especially 4) let you pull of lots of crazy shit.

This is coming from a JRPG fan, if more AAA games were like this, I'd actually buy them.
The game is fun, on a technical level it's impressive, in terms of visuals it looks fucking incredible. The story isn't convoluted and pretentious, the themes are simple yet solid. Animations are tight, fluid and seamless, character development interactions feel completely natural instead of game-like allowing you to develop empathy and attachment for the characters almost straight away. The level design, platforming and climbing are surprisingly good for a hub-world game. The art direction is simply phenomenal and attention to detail is fucking bonkers, it really is that well crafted.
The best thing about this game is that they combine all it's strengths with tech and it immerses you really, really well. Immersion in video games is rare but when a game nails atmosphere this well well while delivering one of the best visual experiences to boot it just impresses me. I wish more AAA games were like this.

See, what's I'm curious about these is how much, if at all, these scenarios and situations are hardcoded. Like is the game's engine design to do something like "The player issues a rope swing command within this time frame and then hit a grenade command within another time frame while pointing the cursor in this general area: cause event #41 to play out." instead of an actual physics engine figuring it out.
Like for instance the game The Order 1886 had some decent visuals but in most situations even when out of quick time events the game only had a small handful of possible events that could play out.
The game looks beautifully optimized and I always admire that but I remember some of the jumps and ledge sequences in Uncharted 2 and 3 as well as the new Tomb Raider where Drake or Lara kinda snapped to the proper location because the engine decided I made the jump and fixed their positioning, not the positioning and the physics engine determining I did it.

None of those webms are scripted in any way. That one where he swings around with the grenade launcher is completely in-game, the explosion at the start is because of a grenade thrown by an enemy (you can see it glowing red), and all the subsequent explosions are due to the player firing the grenade launcher.
That one where he jumps down before swinging and punching that guy is not scripted at all either. You don't even start on that tower for the encounter, it was probably quite difficult for him to stealth up there without being seen to set that up.

That's why they didn't really expended on stealth for instance, they focused more on a cinematic experience, unlike TLoU.
You shouldn't compare U4 and TLoU since even if they're kind of similar, the goal they want to achieve is vastly different.

The game tries to be a VIDEO GAME, something Sony and their affiliates are new to doing this gen, so I give them a little credit for it.

In Binary Domain you can tell your teammate to focus on attack or retreat, if you headshot the enemies they will start shooting each other, you can also upgrade weapons for your teammates
In RE6 you have the entirely new dodging melee combo with sliding attack and the usual headshot to quick kill, legs to prevent them from moving and arm shot to make them drop the weapons, later the enemies will mutate accordingly on where you shoot them.
UC4 doesn't have these

Enemy soldier takes a few seconds to raise alarm, in which time you can incapacitate him. Otherwise, enemies will flank your position, you can move into cover and eventually enemies return to search mode.

Indeed. I mean, I liked how they focused more on the civilization than the previous lost cities, but that shit literally takes up a third of the game whereas the lost city has mostly always been a climax in the previous games.
It's just so weird that after 5 games of the series calling itself "action adventure", only Golden Abyss and 4 actually embrace the adventure aspect. At least Uncharted 2 makes no pretenses about being primarily a third person shooter with adventure elements.

pacing is completely fucked in 4, worse than 3. an opening 4-5hours of nothing but exposition dumps, painfully boring walking or swimming sequences, bad puzzles and a godawful amount of handholdy platforming and a few gunfights sprinkled here and there. i thought TLoU's start was slow, but holy fucking shit uncharted 4 puts that to shame. even the more open areas feel largely pointless with nothing but fluff and only a few instances of optional fights or story moments.
thankfuly the game gets better about 1/3 in, but you still have to deal with the shitty platforming constantly (literally half of the game is pressing X on a wall) and they go back to those annoying walking bits here and there(going back to playing young drake in the middle of shit going down killed the pacing even more) and towards the end and to top it all off with a shitty boss fight thats just one step above a traditional QTE. nice ending though and cap off tot he series.
its just a goddamn shame cause the game has good combat and when it shows up its quite fun, but nearly everything else has barely been improved and the one thing they did improve drastically on is limited to only about 1/3 of the games content.
