If yes, dont get the new system, get a normal PS4.
If not, then by all means get it. There's nothing different except visuals for the system since every game that will be made for PS4K will also have a PS4 counterpart.

seeing how they announced it shortly after the kernel exploit was dropped and started moving, it's fair to assume it's likely going to be an effort to stop modding. They are really really pissed off about it lately, and want nothing like the PS3 to happen again.

PS3 had this option but it was removed early on. If you mod a system you can re-enable this. not like anyone uses it for anything though. The lack of RSX access makes it worthless.

I don't know about modding, but I love cheats. No games have cheats these days, so the only way to have fun is to hack. I've gotten so much more life from my PS3 games with save editing. The Last of Us is super fun with infinite motolovs and ammo, for instance.

Think twice about the hdd stuff, 1 tera models also have updated hardware that reduce the (already low) failure rate of the console. Also, older models aren't that cheaper, at least here. For example the other day I've seen a store offer the 1 tera model + a second controller at 329 bucks

On a side note, adding ps4 test kits is pretty easy, are you sure you didn't check the wrong type of devkit when adding it the first time? I remember the first choice is kinda confusing, when it asks if your console is a debugging unit or a devkit and shit like that. Once you thick the right one you just enter the correct ip and you're pretty much done, you can even set it on several pcs at once (even though remember that only one person can be connected at once)

For his pitch he used Unity for the engine (since he's independent nowand laughing at capcom's inability to make quality games after he left) and that shit looked like it was made with havok. The guy knows what the fuck he's doing and it shows.

My buddy got his PS4 kit working no problem. The issue is the Vita kit. Trying to add a network target fails no matter what method I'm trying.
For PS3/PS4/360/Xbone (I dont have one but I know who does) it just works. The one issue we have is the vita being a little shit.
