You know how Bernie wants to legalize marijuana? That's where a good chunk of the money will come from. Look at the surplus Colorado has had since legalization. If we do that on a national level, a lot of economic problems could be solved. Of course, marijuana isn't the only place he plans on getting money, he wants to close loopholes for Wall Street to make investment firms and corporations actually pay the taxes they're supposed to, in addition to increasing the taxes on the super-rich (ie. over $250,000/yr income).

It's all totally viable. You don't make America great by building a fucking wall between us and Mexico, you make America great by investing in the future and making sure America's children are given every advantage they're supposed to have as Americans.

>>338386743
Its dumb because it massively inflates the cost of college since universities can charge whatever they like, something we already see today with the stupid amount of student loans handed out. It's just shifting the burden not solving a problem. Also there is a massive glut of college graduates which causes issues like needing three years experience for entry level jobs.
If Bernie was serious about helping people move up the economic ladder he would be trying to reinvigorate trades not extending the necessary qualifications to succeed.
You should be settling into a house at 21 not looking for your first full time job

You mean like what's going on RIGHT NOW? The fucking community college near my house basically costs $40,000 now for an associates degree. 10 years ago it was less than half of that price. College tuition increases more than just about any other cost in this country on a yearly rate, and it needs to stop.

THEY SHOULDN'T BE IN COLLEGE
Jesus Christ anon what do you think a trade is?
College is supposed to be for the elite, by that I mean people who work harder and are smarter. Not every schmuck who meanders through life.
Forcing everybody through universities is a) a racket and b) causing the extending the range of childhood from 18 to 21
>>
>>338388118
But that's not true either. Colorado has a stipulation in the law that a certain % of the taxes from marijuana have to go to the school systems. They raked in so much money that they actually gave everyone in the state extra money back on their taxes because they had nowhere else to spend it.

On a national level, that will get a LOT of shit done.

Why does society need 100% university educated citizens? Even 25%?
How does extending the necessary qualifications to even start working benefit anyone other than the people being paid to provide them?
How does an individual benefit from wasting 3-5 years of their life and debt they will not escape for a further 10-15 at best?
The people who are going to succeed at university were going to anyway, everyone else is just fodder for the machine.

The first couple of chapters were.
1) Naruto
2) Did you know there was a comic about Naruto? It's not just a show. Wow.
3) Okay, let's talk about rape culture.

Then the whole rest of the book was about how women aren't welcome in the culture of anime because of rapists. I can't wrap my head around how these people keep getting into places where they can publish things through companies with oversight.

Why do you think everyone is interested?
Keep the people who are invested and doing well in, so they can get on with their lives without crippling debt. Cut out those who are failing so they can do something more productive that suits them and not have them worry about debt either.
>>
>>338390172
This would be a better solution I agree.
That comes with the problem of eliminating or at least significantly reducing government corruption though which has been the bane of the left forever.
Still better than corporate corruption though, better the devil you know and all that
>>
>>338390172
It's crippling debt now because the government has been subsidizing student loans for 20 years. That's why all these people went to school and got worthless degrees and why there's too many people applying for too few spots, and too much demand, and no market response to prices. The schools can just charge $lol whatever because they are giving the bills to kids that were never taught the value of money and they don't see the bill until after they are done with college because of the government subsidies.
>>
>>338390975
No, if you ever feel like you can sum up why prices are flying through the ceiling like this, you're probably missing a ton of information. It's never just about government.

Healthcare is the same way, and it's not just government. There's so much shit going on simultaneously.

I mean government is a part. There's often a spaghetti trail of special favors and unique laws passed to make lobbyists happy, and the laws help provoke the worst possible outcomes for the consumer, but even if you eliminated many of those laws there'd still be a ton of screwy and unethical behavior going on.
>>
>>338390975
You would probably find pro college lobbyists are to blame.
As long as the government is run by corporate stooges and corrupt phoneys no matter how good of an idea you have it will be ruined.
>>
>>338391416
But screwy and unethical behavior is ultimately not competitive, anon.

If I make OPEC, and don't have any way to enforce our price controls, all it takes is russia or canada deciding they'd really rather make $$$$$ and destroy our economies by producing slightly more and selling for slightly less than us.

If I make a college that charges more than what their degrees are worth, people will stop paying to come and they will go elsewhere. Unless that degree is almost free to them because the government pays for the loan. Then they will keep coming and waste everyone's time and money. And lower the standard of education and not be able to withstand the questions of a seminar without breaking down and needing a hug space because they realized they are too dumb to compete.
>>
>>338391459
Well, you know the public is run by lobbyists when the government isn't. If they try to make a change, you'll see ads day and night talking about government takeovers and corruption. People will be writing angry letters and demanding to stop the reforms. It's part of what shot Obamacare in the foot while they were trying to reform healthcare. If the lobbyists don't get what they want at the table, they'll rile up the people in the streets.

It's like Overwatch. I don't know if you're a fan, but look at how many people are hyped up for that in spite of Blizzard's recently awful reputation. As though suddenly that company is turning over a new leaf and will be providing a robust and enduring experience with its schmaltzy new FPS. All they did was advertise, advertise, advertise. People can be frustratingly simple, and if you aren't a natural cynic I think it must be hard to be consistently critical of everything you see.
>>
>>338391416
It can be summed up by people in positions of power doing what is in their immediate interests.
Thats why in some ways Trumps plan of wiping the slate clean of tax loopholes is good as many of those loopholes were probably not thought through at all.
The biggest issue always in government has been accountability, the west has strived to find non-violent means of achieving this, had moderate success for a while and has now as bad as it ever was. So even wiping the slate clean is not a long term solution, not to mention any actually useful loopholes will close as well.

That spaghetti mess will continue to exist as long as there is very little risk for creating it.
>>
>>338383827
lol you don't understand how video games are made, do you?
>>
>>338391918
Dude. Those theoretical market equilibriums don't generally work in the real world. Those are all just models. A sort of capitalist utopia that's as real as "rape culture" or any other academic theory. In reality, you'll find companies getting too big or mixing interests they shouldn't be allowed to touch. Hospitals buying up all the local clinics and a city's largest insurance provider, for example. It lets them get a stranglehold and a monopoly over an area, and it wouldn't be possible for any competitor to charge a lower price than what the monopoly could offer if it wanted to drive out competition.

Besides, there already are competing private colleges, but they're often more expensive for a similar or lower quality of education. Sometimes the places are scam operations.
>>
>>338389223
probably. Intel isn't really improving their CPUs much these days, it's likely the high-end Haswells will be good for a decade.
>>
>>338392106
Obamacare is just an insurance handout though.
As that other anon said it is a mess of different organisations all pushing for their immediate interests. Public opinion is just an obstacle to overcome.
I doubt anything is done with the benefit to the people as the primary concern.
As far as healthcare is concerned improving and extending medicare alongside introducing spending oversights would have been the actual left wing solution. It would have been much easier to reach rational compromise with the conservatives also.
>>
>>338389242
Dude you can't even go to college at 5'8"
>>
>>338392727
Nah, Obamacare did a bunch of things. It also hasn't been an insurance handout. They THOUGHT it would be. That's how they got the insurance lobbyists behind it, don't get me wrong, but it's turned out to be pretty costly for most insurers because sick people cost them a lot of money. I think there was an issue in New York where some reforms similar to Obamacare made it impossible to afford individual insurance at all because premiums had to go up so high to insure the sick.

The big handouts went to hospitals, clinics, labs, ambulances, and all that jazz. The people doing the charging rather than the people doing the paying. Stocks soared for them after Obamacare. For insurance companies the future has been a lot more shaky, especially because they're the ones that are politically vulnerable and therefore the only ones to get hit with real restrictions and chastisement.

Oh, also, there wasn't really a specific, agreed upon left-wing approach to reforms. This has been what's killing the Democrats lately. Nobody knows exactly what they stand for, not even them.

Joe Lieberman, Democrat, is charged by some with having killed the public option, for example. They needed every vote in the senate to pass Obamacare and Lieberman said he wouldn't cooperate if there was a public option, so they tossed it. When the bill hit Congress more eyes got on it and you can imagine plenty Democrats were furious, but while they were debating what to do, the Democrats lost a senate seat and they were forced to pass to bill as it was written or give up on healthcare reform entirely.

The process was a fucking mess.

>>
>>338393839
>It's great for hospitals to be getting big payouts as long it goes along to the public
Ha! No. It doesn't go back to the public. Everybody hates dealing with insurance because they're constantly trying to screw you out of the support they promised, but every time a doctor pokes his head in the room at a hospital, that's a bill. A lot of the medical industry is making fortunes in highway robbery these days, and although they claim they charge ludicrous amounts of money to afford new research, the evidence for that is pretty shaky. It seems like the money generally goes to buying up competition, into stocks, into "administrative fees", and everywhere but back into the public.

Ambulances alone are a racket, and some companies are so bad that certain billing practices had to be made illegal.

Everyone knew Obamacare would be politically toxic. Not one person was fool enough to think it wouldn't be hell trying to pass it and take on responsibility for the US healthcare system, but US healthcare is collapsing to such an alarming degree that every politician knows somebody will have to do something about it. They just don't know how to do it without losing their jobs.
