If Cyberpunk 2077 sells exceptionally well, can we expect more cyberpunk-themed games to be made?
>>
>>338363728
I'm actually expecting cyberpunk to become more popular for some reason very soon. It's more of an untouched type of theme
>>
>I'm actually expecting cyberpunk to become more popular for some reason very soon
>can we expect more cyberpunk-themed games to be made

The next decade will be the cyberpunk decade no matter if C77 sells good or not. Blade Runner 2, Douche Ex, Ghost in the Shell and many other media.
>>
>>338365076
>Blade Runner 2
an unnecessary sequel to a classic film. It's going to be Prometheus all over again.

>Ghost in the Shell
Director's only other major film was Snow White and the Huntsman.
Producers previous credits include "Ghost Rider" and "Baby Geniuses and the Space Baby."
Both Writers are newbs

>Deus Ex
Personally I haven't liked what I've seen or heard, but it hasn't been much so I can't really comment

Just from your short list it looks more like cyberpunk will have it rough for the next few years.
>>
>>338365076
>Blade Runner 2
You must be joking
No
N-no
They ruined literally every old franchise they could
Why can't they let the classics sleep the good sleep
>>
>>338366912
>Back To The Future 4
>Citizen Kane 2: Rosebud With A Vengeance
>Gone With The Wind Part Deux
>Honey I Shrunk The Gay Rights Activists
>Blade Runner 2

>Citizen Kane 2: Rosebud With A Vengeance

Holy shit, anon.
>>
>>338364319
The overwhelming popularity of Neo-80s is going to be what caused it, and not CDPR.

Add to that the fact that the next Shadowrun, Deus Ex Mankind Divided and the next Blade Runner film are all coming within the next year and a half and the stage for a new trend is set.

Is it going to suck as much dicks as Hong Kong or can we expect a good game?
>>
>>338366796
I think its more likely we will see a resurgence of space opera/star wars games with the next decade having a new star wars film coming out every year (not to mention the third star trek sequel and the eventual fourth).

Another cyberpunk film (sorta) coming out is "Ready Player One." I don't know how to feel about it as I thought the book was insufferable, but Spielberg is directing and Amblin Entertainment are an experienced production company, the main writer only has a few credits though.

It wont but I'm hopeful about cyberpunk anyway.

Please god let system shock 3 be good. Please just let those motherfuckers luck out hard and make an incredible game.

Please let it be. And I don't even like System Shock.

You don't like the first game or you don't like the franchise?

H..he's got to have it in him. One last hurrah.
>>
>>338369217
The franchise. Something about it just doesn't click for me. I actually enjoyed my time with the first game a lot more than I did with the second. But it doesn't matter, we need games like these to return and be good.

It just won't live to the hype, it's the same as the MN9 argument, they have been hyped for so long that there is no way that they are going to deliver something good enough to make up for it

If anything, i think apart from the artstyle, i expect this game to play like Remember Me
>inb4 what game

I'm surprised no one drew any parallels to that game

I've read Johnny Mnemonic novel and Neuromancer, snowcrash is sitting on my phone but i forgot how to read books, it's all about lazy content like movies and vidya these days
>>
>>338363728
I hope so because only a AAA cyberpunk game would have the budget needed to make the game I want. Maybe CDPR will learn how to make combat interesting
>>
>>338370118
Snow crash is highly enjoyable.

I've read a lot of cyberpunk and I hated neuromancer. Reading it was like reading the words of a man on drugs describing characters who were also on drugs. In the first person.

Unbearable.

It was a long time ago, i only remember Gibson's habit to mention brands and describe environments in detail, kinda enjoyed this aspect. Don't even remember the story
>>
>>338370891
I'm OK with that.

The author writes incomprehensibly. To the point you can't comprehend where the character is or how he got there.

>>338371043
Never got anywhere close to finishing it. Early on his writing became so disjointed I re-read the same few pages trying to decipher what was happening.

It gets better:

>Female protagonist.
>Deckard confirmed as a side character who appears at the end of the film.
>Film opens in rural middle america on a farm.

If you thought Prometheus was a travesty that totally missed the point of the originals, you ain't seen nothing yet.

>>338363728
I just want an actual, proper GITS: SAC game. It would basically play like Rainbow Six: Deus Ex. I just want to cloak, raid a building, and have Run Rabbit Junk blaring while I do it.

It could be like a class based team objective shooter. Motoko, Batou, Saito, Togusa, Paz, and Borma could be playable Section 9 for each mission, which would be a different kind of raid on a building full of enhanced terrorists, possibly with hostages, possibly trying to crack a safe, do a cyberbrain transfer, traffic girls, steal organs, ect. Cyberpunk crimes. The guy playing Ishikawa would essentially be looking at every camera in the building and an over head map of each floor issuing callouts, or he could just be the ever present AI doing the same shit as the players mark enemies. Saito would be technically outside the level, and be able to transition from perch to perch for a better view, or go in with the team depending on the role he picks before the match starts.

Each member would have different abilities and a different weapon loadout, with different roles in a meta sense. The opposing team or AI would be different glasses and grades of GITS enemies, from regular joes to Marines in fucking Armed suits, to full combat military cyborgs like Kuze.

DLC could include WWIII missions and Batou's time in the Rangers. Collector's edition comes with a little Tachikoma.

Prometheus couldn't "miss the point of originals" because it wasn't an Alien movie, but it was great film on it's own.

All confirmed from the mouth of Scott himself. The only ray of light is that he dropped off direction and Denis Villeneuve (sicaro, prisoners) signed up, but Scott is still writing and producing, so it's a dim ray.

Except for the smoking.

But yeah, this is finally the decade where computing "broke through into the real world."

Look at Uber. You tap a button on your phone, you're given a GPS marker showing you the car coming to your location in real time. The entire thing is unregulatable and every government and union in the world hates it, but it just keeps growing anyway.

Cyberpunk has shitton of potential, it's just nothing really outstanding came out of it so far. I blame the relatively uneventful past three decades. If the genre popped up during the commie era Eastern Yurop, you can bet your ass someone would have made something good with it. As is, people simply don't feel the shit they are writing about, so it all ends up shallow and superficial. We have the style, but not the substance.
