A lot of PS1 ports of SNES games are fucked like that. Same shit happens with Chrono Trigger. Tactics Ogre also has loading times all over the place, thank fuck they made a PSP version.

1= snes. better than gba version in regards to graphics and having the original translation (for nostalgia).
2= gba. when emulated you can speed shit up with the press of a button. you can breeze through combat and run ultra fast on map.
3=ps1. great version with sweet cutscenes. but there is a second loading time in between screens. so annoying
