I think transhumanism is a worthy goal. We've essentially made natural evolution our bitch by forcing the environment to change instead of adapting to it, so the next step is purposeful augmentation.
I rest my hope in further exploration though. We should take a leaf from those who sailed off to new lands, and fly out to explore, and maybe colonize, other planets, or even moons to get started. It's possible we're the first intelligent species in the galaxy, or at least our local section of it, so we should get it set up for the next species to pop up.
