Maybe. Probably. Don't knwo yet.

>What Brand/Model?
Again, dunno. If I do it within the next year or so, it'll probably be a 1070. That really heavily depends on what games do in the next year or so and whether or not my card decides to kill itself, which isn't a huge possibility but it's happened to me before, so shrug.

ASUS makes decent products but their customer service is absolute shit.

I frequently have MIR's rejected by them.

I build my computer in 2014. I won't be buying another GPU until 2020. The only new game that made me drop to 30fps on medium is D44M.

My question is by the time I upgrade to the latest GPU that'll come out in 5 or more years, will my i5 4690 bottleneck it?
>>
>>338350808
No. Right now I'm in money saving mode.

Well right now I have a cheap 1440 monitor.

960, and it depends on the game. Not all games can be upgraded to emulate at 1440. I think I actually run Mario Kart Double Dash at 1080, because with all the other settings, if I go for 1440 then I start dipping below 60 fps. For some reason if that game dips to even 52 fps, it feels like its dipping to 10 fps. It actually affects the game worse than any fps Bloodborne has gotten me on the PS4.

If anyone can explain that one to me, let me know.

We are reaching too many new hardware changes, so my guess is yes.

DDR4 RAM, PCI-E SSDs, so on and so forth. 2020 would probably be a good time to completely rebuild your computer. Can probably end up doing a huge upgrade for a cheap price at that point in time.

Also, lazy developers will force you to upgrade all that shit if you want to play their games.
>>
>>338359805
Welp so much for that "you just need to spend a couple hundred upgrading to keep up with each generation" meme. That sounds like I have to rebuy ram, cpu, mobo, and gpu in 2020, leaving only my SSD to be reused.

Looking at RAM alone, DDR2 was introduced in 2003, DDR3 in 2007, and now DDR4 in 2014. While upgrading everything isn't necessary right away, a couple hundred every generation is definitely off. Looking at Sony, a new generation means around every 6 years. I would say the advances for PCs within a 6 year period is a really good reason to require a practically full upgrade.

Question

I have a 660Ti, and I'm either upgrading this year or in 2017

So far it looks like nvidia mostly lied (shock horror i know) with how much better the gtx 1080 is compared to the 980Ti

I'd only be gaming at 1080p, but i do enjoy 144fps on my 144hz monitor so i like more than 60fps in games if possible

consdiering im just gaming at 1080p is the gtx 1080 gonna be a good choice for the latest AAA titles on ultra, or is the 980Ti the better option?

I just want better VR. HTC Vive is amazing.

Nope, can still run pretty much everything with high settings. Maybe in 3-5 years.

n/a. Although i wont be buying jewvidya if they continue the ridiculous pricing (the company is running at 50% profit margin).

1440p when i upgrade

So how does refresh rate works with LCDs? It's the frequency of backlight, right? So I assume 120Hz or 144Hz should be easier on the eyes than 60Hz like it was with CRTs? Or does it depend on technology/manufacturer?

I mean I could google, but might as well try for tl;dr here

When you start bottlenecking or in like 3 years or so.
>>
>>338364369
Never, OCd it up to 5 if you think you need it, but you can still hold, there are people here with 3.xx, so think again.
>>
>>338364369
Never at this rate. There are literally zero new games that bottleneck the processor (also 3570k @ 4.4)

Install msi afterburner and very slightly downclock it

That will help

Will be sticking to NVidia for the foreseeable future due to having an NVidia Shield TV, the gamestream shit works so well. The hacked drivers for AMD cards are a bit hit and miss.

Probably not. Maybe towards the tail end of 2017/early 2018 depending on how things go, but we'll see.
>What Brand/Model?
I'll probably hold off and get the 1170 or 1270, or whatever they call those generations.
>What resolution will you be playing in?
1080p. If I get a new monitor I will probably prioritize a higher refresh rate over a higher resolution.
>What is your current GPU and current resolution?
970 meme card at 1080p. Going strong running things at max/near max and 60FPS at this resolution, so I'm not going to upgrade for a bit.

The only thing AMD said about Polarises is that one will be notebook and other mainstream. Literally no one knows what they mean by "mainstream". We only know that GPU can deliver a constant 60+ FPS on 2560×1440 resolution without any hiccups in Hitman.

Not likely

AMD would have to make polaris a much more significant release. Pascal is garbage based on the test units we got(they're high binned and overclocked straight from nvidia to reviewers)

Will buy a new one this summer/autumn.

No idea about brand or model. Waiting for Computex so ATI will bring their new shit out.

1080p with texture upscaling most likely.

Current gpu is like 5 years old. I'm not even going to indulge you with details.

>>338367381
Yes, it most definitely is the new king. It's plain silly to compare oced to non-oced. Please, put oced 1080 there and let's see the results.

Its not possible right now because founders edition card hits temperature limit even with its BOOST 3.0 technology. Then it throttles.

Comparing a 314mm2 gpu to several ~600mm2 gpu's sure is convincing anon.

Doesn't matter, I will buy whatever is the best performance for my budget for my needs

1920x1080 16:9. I'm too used to it and also don't have the space for anything larger.

>What is your current GPU and current resolution?

Current GPU is a 2GB GTX 770 EVGA. Current resolution is 1820x1080 16:9.

I am waiting until HBM memory chips, so possibly another year or so. My 770 still 60 fps any game on high at the moment for me. I feel the 1070-1080 and Pascal won't be worth the upgrade.
