Let's start with a story. Battleborn was announced, and being Gearbox (I forgot and forgave for it's indiscretions, and hey I didn't mind Pre-Sequel) I was delighted. Then no more than a week, Blizzard announced Overwatch. Much to my chagrin, I ended up forgetting that Battleborn existed until Blizzard's marketing took a slow. Overwatch ended up being the TF2 clone I was expecting. This isn't a story to bash Blizzard, though I rather would like to.
So it came time to pick of the two, and having watched enough Overwatch and having participated in the Open Beta, I wasn't impressed enough to want to spend the money. Then came around the release of Battleborn, and was the time to watch streams of it's release. I fell in love instantly.
I spent the money for the Digital Deluxe, and over the past 31 hours I've logged, this game has never failed to make me laugh at every turn. The dialogue though it can get repetitive is always funny, hearing characters taunt one another (Get a Benedict vs. Toby. Trust me.) gets better and better, and just the general things that characters say seem to get funnier each time. Borderlands flourished on it's humor, and Battleborn has only taken that humor and ran far with it.
So thank you Gearbox, thank you for making a genuinely funny game with a genuinely enjoyable gameplay experience. Yeah the game might have it's flaws right now, but absolutely nothing is perfect at launch. And besides, you tell me you don't laugh when Marquis kills Phoebe and says: "Oh, I am so fired."

I'm going to go ahead and disagree with you OP. I had the exact same experience, and played the shit out of Borderlands 1&2.
I feel Battleborn lacks the soul and interesting characters that made Borderlands so good. Rendain isn't anywhere close to Hnadsome Jack as a villain, and none of the other characters ever roused more than a chuckle from me.
That said, I really like the gameplay except for the fact that the game itself is so sparse. The "story missions" are the most terrible amalgamations of the worst parts of any FPS. They're so bad that I actually expected them to be some kind of over-the-top parody of what's wrong with shooters, but alas, they were serious.
The game itself is further hindered by an emaciated list of maps, unbalanced characters, and a roster that requires a prohibitively large amount of time to grind out (which would actually be fun if the missions weren't so terrible).
Battleborn is a good idea that got buried in a bad game. Several of my friends purchased the deluxe edition and we played it right up to the Overwatch open beta and never logged on again. The sad part is, I'm the only one actually buying Overwatch. Tons of people just totally lost interest in Battleborn because the just isn't enough there.

All right. Here's a true statement about Battleborn that applies to me.
I've hated the moba genre for the longest time in the past, and frankly, all it took for me to step past the front door, was a camera shift.
It went down to this: if I couldn't enjoy Battleborn, then there would never be anything that I could ever enjoy with a moba style game.
The first time I heard about Battleborn, years ago in a magazine, I felt that if any game in the genre could turn me over, it'll have to be this one.
If it wasn't for the existence of Battleborn, I would have continued to despise the moba genre in it's entirety. Now, I've got some leeway in that!

I really want to enjoy gearbox games but their brand of humor and graphic aesthetics sucks. Played borderlands 1 and it wasn't that bad, albeit bored me to death. Borderlands 2 had the worst writing ever. Battleborn seems to have a season pass which means you need to pay like $80 to get the whole experience. Overwatch is half that on the other hand.

How is there competition between these games at all? BB is a mp focused mission based game with bosses that reminds me of older shooters in sone parts. It also has a moba LIKE multiplayer mode. Overwatch is a team based multiplayer shooter like counterstrike or team fortress. Using the cool down system for skills doesn't make it a moba. Neither are true moba, they're completely different games and I bought both. For moba stuff I play Paragon.

Since the games are sort of alike, it also left me with a really bad taste for what Overwatch would be like, so I wasn't planning on buying that after trying out Battleborn.
Then I got to try the Overwatch beta and it blew me away. Been excited like a child ever since the beta ended.

honestly, if on the rare storm that a match does get even teams (which never fucking happens) it outpreforms overwatch, because of battleborn's depth, but this never happens due to the dev's incompetence

tl:dr 1/100 chance a match goes better than the average overwatch match, combine this with poor balance, meme humour and graphics (if you care for that shit) makes it not that good

Battleborn's visual design is fucking atrocious. The gameplay I've watched was chock-full of horrendous color-vomit particle effects for everything, even standard attacks on some characters. It's more visually confusing than LeL, DotA, Smite, or Overwatch for that matter and it makes my fucking head hurt to watch it for more than 15 minutes.
